Depressing Conclusion To The Texas Rape Of An 11-Year Old: She’s Now 14 And Pregnant

Depressing Conclusion To The Texas Rape Of An 11-Year Old: She's Now 14 And Pregnant

Her mother is upset? I’m upset! What this girl went through is so awful and terrifying that I’m not sure how she even had the time or opportunity to get pregnant, when I sort of assumed she would have been spending the majority of her time in therapy and her family would have been doing everything in their power to create an environment for their daughter where she could heal and get an education and move on from this. I know how judgy I sound here, and I am judgy about this because what happened to this girl when she was basically still a child, and she still is now, was so awful and dramatic and I have thought about her in passing and I always hoped for a better future for her. Little is known about the new Aurora case at present but it’s the same sad old story we have heard so many times over the last months, stories about Jane, about Rehtaeh, about Audrie, girls who snuck out of their homes, who went to parties with their friends and peers, who drank too much or had alcohol forced down their throats , who ended up raped. (UPDATED) The Two Young Girls Who Threatened Steubenville Rape Victim Get House Arrest And Their Internets Taken Away

(UPDATED) The Two Young Girls Who Threatened Steubenville Rape Victim Get House Arrest And Their Internets Taken Away

I don’t think either of the two young girls who posted messages on Twitter after the Steubenville rape case verdict was announced were really going to “Beat the shit out of ” or “commit a homicide” towards the 16-year-old rape victim, Jane Doe. I think they were just being stupid, as teen girls sometimes do. Maybe their parents never talked to them about the proper attitude of sympathy and support for rape victims. Maybe they don’t fully realize that they have a one in five chance of being a victim of a rape themselves. More »

Steubenville Plans Uplifting Pep Rally For Coach Reno As He Faces Allegations He Failed To Report A Rape

Steubenville Plans Uplifting Pep Rally For Coach Reno As He Faces Allegations He Failed To Report A Rape

No one is disputing that Coach Reno Saccoccia is a very good football coach, but due to the fact he may have known (And if we are going on the text messages presented in court, that he DID know) that some of his star players had raped a girl and he kept them on the team for eight more games, I can’t quite wrap my mind around the idea of celebrating this man who is facing some extremely serious allegations. Day Three Of The Steubenville Rape Trial: Victim Says 'I Was Drugged'

Evan Westlake witnessed the victim unconscious on the floor of the basement, naked on the floor, motionless. Anthony Craig also witnessed this, and testified “She wasn’t moving, she wasn’t talking, she wasn’t participating.” The people who were “participating” were Mays, who was “smacking” his penis against the girl’s hip, and Richmond, who was penetrating the victim with his fingers “halfway the the knuckle.” More »

Outraged Moms Say We Can No Longer Discuss Steubenville Gang Rape Case

Outraged Moms Say We Can No Longer Discuss Steubenville Gang Rape Case

I will say this from a mother’s perspective: if there was a situation where I lived like the one in Steubenville I would welcome the media attention and protests, because as a parent I would want people trying to vocalize their dislike against rape and the sexual victimization of others. I would want to know that there are strangers in this world willing to drive for hours and spend their hard-earned money on gas and stand out in the freezing cold to speak out against rape. I would appreciate writers and bloggers and journalists covering the story because I have young kids, and I don’t want any of them to ever be raped or to rape anyone else. As a mom and a woman and as a human, I cannot understand creating a petition to silence those who object to something as soul-destroying and horrid as rape. I guess I’m surprised that some moms in Steubenville don’t feel the same. More »

Occupy Steubenville Rally Marked By Snow, Ice And Support For Rape Victims - Live Feed Now

Local residents have been invited to speak, but so far only members affiliated with Anonymous have taken the mic. Currently a woman is peaking of a past rape but due to the wind it’s difficult to make out everything she is saying. Protesters are attempting to shield the speaker. The majority of sentiments expressed by the speakers thus far are about stopping violence against women and demands for ending the rape culture prevalent all over the world. The speeches are interjected with suggestions that the attendees hug each other, which is a far cry from the statements regarding “violence” and “hatred” that residents have claimed are directed at their city.
