At some point, the anti-gay bigots are going to have to come up with new scare tactics. The whole, “Gay people are trying to recruit your children” thing is a little played out, don’t you think? Not to one op-ed columnist, who claims that Hollywood is trying to force gay people down the throats of America, as if a) they could fit, which they can’t because people can’t fit into mouths, and b) as if there were gay people everywhere and they too need to be represented on TV. Wait, that second part is actually true. More

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi are now getting on into their fifth year of marriage (i.e. the time when exasperated inquiries into kids? Kids? Kids? are almost played on loop). But in keeping with the couple’s previous response on the subject, Portia says that she and Ellen plan to expand their family exactly never. More
Once upon a time Real Housewives star and businesswoman Bethenny Frankel is having a rough go of it. The mother of toddler Bryn Hoppy jumped in the usually slow holiday news cycle to announce that she was divorcing her husband of three years, Jason Hoppy. But because of her huge fan base, she also feels like she’s let — quite literally – the world down with the dissolution of her marriage. More
I know Time Magazine just named President Obama person of the year, but I personally think Megan Fox deserves the honors a lot more. Up until this year, we all viewed her as an actress who solely existed to add another layer of publicity to the Transformer movies. Also to make guys horny. I would be remiss in my job if I didn’t throw in the h-word. More
Call me silly, but my impression of Jennifer Garner over the past few years has been of her eternally pregnant, captured in photos with her lovely family but never really walking the red carpet or even speaking. That’s not to say she didn’t do this stuff, obviously, just that in my mind she’s become synonymous with only one image. I mean, on her birthday we even jokingly proclaimed her Hollywood’s Least Stylish Mom, for all those shots of her in jeans and sneakers. More
I’m a young mom. I always kind of assumed that it would give me a leg up when it comes to being at least a semi-cool mother who understands trends and pop culture. But this “Gangnum Style” mom and son have proven that I’m not cool at all. More
From a basement in Bismarck, North Dakota, a woman logged into her Hotmail account and blasted out the following message to all the women she knew.
“Warning: NBC’s new show, The New Normal, will destroy your marriage, your country and your chance at getting a room on the all-white floor of Heaven!!!” 90% of those emails went into the spam folder. But 10% got opened. And that’s why I’m here today telling you about the latest way that primetime television shows are tearing about the moral fabric of our society. More
Besides getting the opportunity to stare at Billy Crystal’s naturally aging face last night, one of the biggest highlights of the 2012 Oscars was the premiere of Ellen DeGeneres JCPenney commercials. While I’m usually not a fan of JCPenneys or their commercials, all the controversy and hype surrounding them this month made their debut much more exciting. More
As if Ellen needed to give me one more reason to love her, she’s addressing the One Million Moms boycott against her being the JCPenney spokesperson head on during today’s show. In light of Prop 8 being ruled unconstitutional yesterday (yays all around!) and the fact that the One Million Moms group is still trying to ruin her partnership with JCPenney, Ellen thought it was time to speak out.
And she did it in her typical Ellen fashion; with humor, logic and a reference to the Pillsbury Doughboy. But just because it was funny doesn’t mean that she left out the big facts, including the fact that the One Million Moms group only has 40,000 members on Facebook and that JCPenney’s getting lots of positive Pro-Ellen support for not backing down. More
JC Penney has record of not making wonderful decisions when it comes to families, specifically when they were caught hawking horrendously sexist shirts for little girls. But since the company has announced their partnership with Ellen DeGeneres, JC Penney appears to want to make amends in choosing a celebrated and noteworthy woman with which to fuse their brand identity. But a group called One Million Moms is asking that JC Penney fire the spokesperson for ignoring their customers with traditional family values because Ellen is a lesbian. And there never was a person who was both gay and pro-family, let me tell you. More
Celebrity reproduction is a huge industry. With websites devoted to Hollywood pregnancy and starlet offspring, celebs are constantly pressured to explain their choices about having children. We here at Mommyish feel pretty sympathetic towards these celebrities, because hey, awkward questions suck! Unfortunately, actresses like Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz seem to be regularly harassed about the contents of their uterus and just when they’re going to procreate. Even though it shouldn’t be asked, I have to admit that these stars handled the question well. Here’s what they had to say. More
Last night at the Teen Choice Awards, celebrities tried to connect with their youngest fans, some with more success than others. Almost every star over the age of 20, from Ellen Degeneres to Robert Pattinson had advice for the audience. So just what did your kids learn from their favorite actors, musicians and TV personalities? Check out this gallery to find out. More
