It’s Never Ok To Leave Look-Alike Dolls On Kid’s Porches

It's Never Ok To Leave Look-Alike Dolls On Kid's Porches

When I was a kid, for whatever reason, my mother and grandmothers started giving me porcelain dolls as gifts for Christmas or my birthday. I was maybe five years old at the time and I remember being a little confused- it’s a doll, but I can’t play with it? Those creepy effing dolls numbered maybe seven or eight total by the time I was 10 years old and just stood atop my tall dresser on display. This dresser was right next to my bed so those unholy, deadened eyes were staring at me all night as I slept. More »

Pregnant Woman Busted After Posting Shoplifted Dress Snaps On Facebook

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, pregnant woman goes into a store, shoplifts an ugly dress, posts the images on Facebook and gets busted after people in her hometown recognize the ugly dress and turn her in. No, you haven’t heard this one before? That’s right, because most pregnant women wouldn’t risk a police record to steal a dress that looks like Lisa Frank created it in the early 80′s. More »

This Tennessee Law About Pregnant Addicts Won’t Make Them Stop Using Drugs

This Tennessee Law About Pregnant Addicts Won't Make Them Stop Using Drugs

What this law does is criminalize addiction, and most drug addicts are sick people, and they have so much shame about their addictions that all this is going to do is cause pregnant women less likely to get help in getting clean. Being on drugs while pregnant is a horrible mistake, but I don’t think a pregnant women getting high is going to hear about a story like this and think “Oh dear, I best stop doing drugs so I don’t end up in prison too.” More »

30 Frat Members To Be Charged In Hazing Death Of 19-Year Old And The Punishment Will Never Be Enough

I don’t know about all of you Mommyish readers, but since I became a mother, I have spent an inordinate amount of time day-dreaming about my children’s futures. I worry, I wonder, I giggle and sometimes, I shudder. Being a youngish mom, I remember my youth very clearly- both the good and the bad. I remember times where I desperately wanted to fit in with a certain group of people and I know I did things to make that happen that would have made my mom cry. More »

Vegan Mom Refused To Take Her Dehydrated Newborn To The Hospital Over Meat Fears

Vegan Mom Refused To Take Her Dehydrated Newborn To The Hospital Over Meat Fears

I think the majority of vegans can even get all eye-rolly at this. I mean, who would you trust more – your doctor or Whole Foods? The baby is in state custody and I’m sure being taken care of, but this mom obviously needs to stop her weird holistic vegan pretend-doctor ways and realize that no one is trying to infringe on her beliefs, just keep her kid from dying. Convicted Sex Offender Tattooed 12-Year-Old Girl While She Had A Slumberparty At Friend's House

A Pennsylvania couple have been ordered to stand trial after they thought it was a good idea to tattoo a girl who was visiting another girl who was in their care at the couple’s trailer park in May. The couple has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, corruption of minors, simple assault and tattooing and piercing a minor. Randall Charlton III and Melissa Becker are obviously the sort of people the majority of us wouldn’t leave our kids with. Not because they are fond of tattoos, but because Charlton is a convicted sex offender and they both thought it was a good idea to tattoo a young girl. More »

Another Slender Man Stabbing In Ohio Obviously Means Kids Can’t Like Scary Stuff

Another Slender Man Stabbing In Ohio Obviously Means Kids Can't Like Scary Stuff

Growing up, I was a huge fan of scary stuff. I loved scary movies, and television shows like Tales from The Darkside and The Twilight Zone and one of my most beloved books was a giant Alfred Hitchcock anthology I dragged around with me that belonged to my parents. I dressed up as The Creature From The Black Lagoon for Halloween when I was about five-years-old and I had a huge crush on Vincent Price. I never wanted to stab anyone.
