Your Moderate Drinking Habit Is Probably Killing You

Your Moderate Drinking Habit Is Probably Killing You

I’ve always lived by the motto “everything in moderation!” Well, tried to anyway. I, like many other women enjoy the occasional glass of wine. Okay – the nightly glass of wine. I never really worried about this habit, though. But it turns out that rewarding yourself with that glass of wine at the end of the day may be doing more harm than you think. A new study shows a serious link between alcohol and cancer – and you don’t have to be an alcoholic to be affected. More »

Woman Fabricates An Entire Child With Leukemia To Senselessly Dupe Neighbors

It’s a hoax that could happen in any number of small towns across the country. A woman, for reasons that no one can completely understand, invents a little boy struggling with leukemia. She tells friends and neighbors about this poor child who might be gone from the world all too soon. And, like decent people do, a community rallies around this case in hopes of helping a child and a family. They don’t ask for proof or verification. They don’t realize that the whole thing is a lie. But watching the couple delight and gush over their long awaited happy ending suggests that perhaps those elevated eyebrows at the term “surrogate” are a thing of 2008. More »

Tanning Salons Are Lying To Your Teenager

It would seem that in our modern age, most kids and teens would know that tanning beds are dangerous. I grew up in Los Angeles, a place where there are more tanning salons than Starbucks cafes and McDonald’s restaurants, according to one senator. When I was growing up, which actually wasn’t too long ago, underage girls in my high school flocked to the salons in droves despite the mounting evidence that they caused cancer. I attributed their tan happy behavior to sheer vanity and just a whimsical belief in immortality that is often quite robust in young people.

But after a recent congressional report, it may be that the tanning salons were actually lying to them about the health risks. More »

Children with cancer is clearly an area of medicine that needs more of our attention, our support, and our money. Suffering children, perhaps one of the most difficult realities to wrap your head around, even for the childless, need more of our resources all the time. But what does Mattel’s Barbie have to do with any of this? Apparently a lot, according to parents who have created an online petition at Change.org to create such a bald doll for the masses. More »
