Shakira Shares Her New Baby’s Picture For A Good Cause, Puts Other Infant-Exploiting Celebs To Shame

shakira baby picturesI’ve always been a little grossed out by the idea of shopping your infant’s picture to the highest bidding celebrity tabloid shortly after the child’s birth. Call me old-fashioned, but I don’t need to see anyone’s six-day-old baby trotted out like a show pony so mom and dad can get a nice big paycheck. And that’s the Shakira baby pictures of little baby Milan, and the charity these photos are going to support, makes me smile so much.

Instead of giving the tabloids these precious first images of the child she recently gave welcomed into the world with Gerard Pique, Shakira and her partner decided to share the picture while promoting their “World Baby Shower” with Unicef.

The idea is that friends and fans, instead of purchasing gifts for a child that we all know will be well taken care of, donate money to Unicef, to help children who need it all over the globe. Shakira and her partner said in a joint statement slightly before the little one’s birth:

”Dear Friends, Having our first baby is such an incredibly happy time for us. That’s why we want to invite you to our baby shower”¦with a twist. Rather than asking you to give gifts to our new baby, we’re asking you to honour him by supporting UNICEF in giving underprivileged babies around the globe a healthy start in life. It would really mean a lot to us.”

In a world of Snookis and Kardashians and Rancics, where babies get presented on tabloid covers as if it’s a right of passage, it’s so refreshing to see a star use this special time in her life to support a charitable cause that’s dear to her heart. It’s touching to see these young parents reach out and try to help others who need it.

We could republish Shakira’s adorable picture of her tiny guy and his daddy. But we won’t. We’re going to ask you to go see it on Shakira’s page and then follow her link to donate to Unicef. It’s the right thing to do. And every little bit helps a kid that really needs it. It’s a win – win. And it puts all those other smiling celebs to shame.
