Pregnant Woman Busted After Posting Shoplifted Dress Snaps On Facebook

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, pregnant woman goes into a store, shoplifts an ugly dress, posts the images on Facebook and gets busted after people in her hometown recognize the ugly dress and turn her in. No, you haven’t heard this one before? That’s right, because most pregnant women wouldn’t risk a police record to steal a dress that looks like Lisa Frank created it in the early 80’s.

But Danielle Saxton of West Frankfort, Illinois did, when the 27-year-old stole a dress, a couple of shirts, and jewelry and posted a selfie wearing the stolen dress on Facebook. From WSILTV:

Then, she posted pictures of herself wearing the merchandise. Investigators say Saxton shared the pics just a few hours after the theft. The images quickly spread on Facebook, and led officers straight to her.

”What she stole was a very distinct leopard dress,” store co-owner Kert Williams explained.

Police say the pictures are evidence of shoplifting committed by Saxton. The theft happened at Mortie’s Boutique in West Frankfort, where multiple items disappeared last Friday.

Williams was heading back to work last week when he saw a woman walking away from the store with those clothes.

Williams checked store security cameras and posted about the theft on Facebook. Thanks to the pictures on Saxton’s account, other users immediately put two and two together.

”We just had a description and a direction of travel, but when the social media aspect played into it, we were able to identify who it was. And by looking at the background of the photograph we were able to pinpoint where she was at,” said Police Chief Shawn Talluto.

Talluto says Saxton still had the clothes in her hand when officers arrived. They arrested her and later found she was wanted on another warrant in Jackson County.

That dress is just so”¦ ugly. I guess this must be a small town and there aren’t a lot of maternity options for women there, but she should have just done what the rest of us non-criminals do, wear giant T-shirts and stretchy yoga pants. Plus, how dumb do you have to be to post snaps wearing a stolen dress on Facebook in a small town?

Another interesting aspect of this story is that it looks like the store could also possibly get in their own hot water as well, do to what looks like a mess of knockoff Chanel items they have to sell, according to their FB page:

I’m pretty sure that’s not Chanel. Or even Chamel.

Who knows why Saxton stole the dress. Maybe she was poor. Maybe she was going through some weird pregnant bored phase where she wants to get her kicks and she did it by stealing items. Or maybe she just really loved that ugly dress. All I know is that it would make more sense to me if she got busted stealing something pregnant women really need, like a live-in nanny or cupcakes.
