Another Child Attacked By A Pit Bull And Once Again Internet Blames Everyone But The Dog

shutterstock_135102485__1396366389_142.196.167.223A two-year-old girl had to be airlifted to the hospital after being mauled by a pit bull yesterday. She has severe injuries to the face and head, but the hospital is not releasing specifics about her condition. Is anyone surprised that the Internet is rising up to blame everything but the dog? Pit bulls are sweet, they just have this annoying propensity to occasionally rip innocent children apart.

The mother of the young girl was dog sitting for her boyfriend when the attack happened. She attempted to pull the dog off of her daughter and sustained injuries as well. When the police arrived, the dog had the mother and daughter cornered in a bathroom: “‘When our officer arrived on scene the dog was still attacking both,’ said Reagan Pena with the League City Police Department.” The police shot the dog. When animal control arrived it was still clinging to life so they euthanized it.

I know people love their pets and I understand that many feel pit bulls get a bad rap. But honestly, you can’t blame people for being terrified of the breed and unsurprised when it is responsible for yet another attack. I’m always amazed at how people are able to project blame on everyone but the dog itself:

Yes, it’s definitely the toddler’s fault. Because a dog that can be provoked to mauling a child because it’s tail is pulled is totally normal.

So, is a pit bull a harmless breed that just needs love and training – or a latent killer whose instincts should always be excused? If you believe pit bulls are so harmless, why fault a mother for being in its general vicinity? Are they harmless or not? I think we all know the answer to that question. Any animal that can be provoked to mauling someone because it’s tail is pulled or it’s food is touched should not be legal to own.
