Mom Asks Forum If She Should Save up for Her Daughter’s Nose Job

There are many reasons why a parent might want to open up a savings account for their child. College funds are a fairly popular reason to save up. Setting up a trust (for those with the means), is another way of ensuring your child is taken care of in the future. Some folks even try to save money up so they can buy their children a car or even a home once they’re older. But uh, what about plastic surgery? One mom recently asked on a forum if she should save up for her daughter’s nose job, and folks had a few choice words for her.

Why This Mom Wants to Save up for Her Daughter’s Nose Job

Mumsnet user DressedInBinBags recently posted to the forum asking what folks thought about her putting away some money each week in the event her daughter someday wants a nose job. But why exactly would she? Well, according to the mom, the girl’s dad has a rather large nose, and he’s not a fan of it. The mom worries that the girl will get teased for it eventually.

“[Dear daughter] looks like she is going to take after her father in the nose department,” the anonymous poster wrote. “If her nose isn’t like her dad’s or it doesn’t bother her, she could use it for other things. Obviously, she would still be gorgeous to me.

Hrm. Yeah. I’m not entirely sure why this mom is even posting about this if she’s already set on doing it. Sure, it’s good to save up for anything for your kids, but it does seem rather odd to save up for a nose job for your kid. It seems the issue isn’t your child’s nose, but society’s expectations and standards of beauty, which tend to be outdated and narrow, no?

This is what a few of the other Mumsnet users had to say (and many did not pull any punches):

So what do you think? Would you consider saving up for plastic surgery for your kid in the event they hate something about how they look later on? Would you set up a “whatever” fund for whatever your kid might need, be it a nose job or books for school or a trip to Paris? Let us know in the comments!
