NYC Nanny Awakens, Has Yet To Utter A Peep On The Murdered Children
Following the gruesome murder of 6-year-old Lucia Krim and 2-year-old Leo Krim in an Upper West Side apartment in New York City, Yoselyn Ortega, the accused, has awakened. And although she reportedly is ”talking a little” she hasn’t said a word regarding the children police believe she slaughtered.
New York Post reports that Ortego has emerged from her medically induced coma after Marina Krim found her trying to take her own life in the family’s bathroom. Although initial reports claimed that Ortego slit her own wrists, The Post claims that she was “stabbing herself in the throat.” She suffered a broken vertebrae from her suicide attempt.
Having undergone surgery, Ortega awoke to investigators trying to piece together the horrific events of last Thursday. However, Ortega has retained council and is keeping mum:
Ortega, 50, has lawyered up and won’t answer questions, said one source. She did speak to her doctor and ”asked about her family,” the source said.
NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Ortega remained intubated yesterday.
Although she is currently in police custody, she has yet to be formally charged because she has been unable to speak due to said intubation. After obtaining a search warrant, police combed Ortega’s apartment but uncovered no motive for the seemingly senseless massacre. However, sources close to the nanny provide a picture of a mother very stressed about her money situation:
Sources close to the nanny, including her sister Celia Ortega, say she had been suffering from mental stress and had been seeking help from a psychiatrist.
But on Thursday, Celia said she just “snapped.”
The accused nanny had a number of financial problems, having a number of debts to pay and unable to find a place for her and her teenage son to live.
After the two were forced to live in a cramped apartment with Ortega’s sister and niece, she could be found roaming around the building selling jewelry and makeup.
Meanwhile, parents Kevin Krim and Marina Krim left a Manhattan hotel yesterday with friends and their only surviving daughter Nessie, aged three and half. Understandably, the grieving family is most likely in search of not just some privacy, but some space to properly mourn their profound loss.
