Maria Shriver Reportedly Giving Dirt Bag Husband A Second (Third, Fourth, Seventh?) Chance

Maria Shriver and her philandering husband Arnold Schwarzenegger may have announced that they were divorcing due to that 14-year-old love child. But now reports have surfaced that the two are attending couples therapy in a last-ditch effort to save their politically valuable and lengthy marriage. My only question is why Maria? Why?

The New York Post reports that Maria is reconsidering the split for religious reasons which is quite understandable. However, you best bet that Arnold is reconsidering for professional reasons:

”Maria is a devout Catholic and doesn’t believe in divorce, but is still struggling with the humiliation she endured by him…Arnold is desperate to win her back, mostly because he realizes he can’t live without her, and partly because he doesn’t have the political clout without her. Winning her back would be the best way to show the world he has been forgiven for his transgressions.”

Maria may not be able to divorce because of her faith, but it shouldn’t go without recognition that her husband is considering the marriage for the sake of “political clout.” Clearly, the divorce rate need not be higher than it already is. But sustaining marriages on money, career opportunities, or mere show doesn’t do much for the sacrament of marriage either if we’re going to go there.

And if we’re considering what’s best for their four children, I can’t imagine that watching their mother take back their father on account of his political gain gives them a warm feeling of familial security. That being said, Maria is no stranger to political marriages and rampant infidelity being a Kennedy by birth. After all, her Aunt Jackie Kennedy endured a notorious sham of a marriage as JFK reportedly had his way with everyone from Marilyn Monroe to young, impressionable interns. So perhaps accepting your spouse’s infidelities for the sake of career benefit is simply the Kennedy family way.
