Katherine Heigl Adopts Another Child, Proves There Are Many Different Defintions Of Family

katherine heigl adopts childKatherine Heigl and singer-songwriter hubby Josh Kelley have adopted a second child, reports E! News. The couple has understandably been secretive about their news, so at this point there are few details (some sources are reporting it’s a girl, but that hasn’t yet been confirmed). Either way, this is wonderful news for Heigl, Kelley and their 3-year-old daughter Naleigh.

Heigl 32, has been an outspoken advocate for adoption ever since she adopted Naleigh from South Korea in 2009. She also has a sister, Meg, who was adopted from Korea three years before Heigl was born something that influenced her own decision to one day adopt from Korea.

“I think it’s so rewarding for everybody and it’s just amazing to become a parent no matter how become one,” Heigl told ET Online back in November in an attempt to raise awareness about adoption. And while she’s well known for that crazy birthing scene in Knocked Up, Heigl personally has always been open to adoption, claiming it’s something that “should be on everybody’s mind.”

I’m a fan of Heigl based on the fact alone that she sounds like a really cool, down-to-earth mom. Earlier this year, she appeared on The View to discuss not only the rewards of adoption but also the plight of working mothers in general. She insisted that having interests outside of parenting, be it career or otherwise, has actually made her a better mother a philosophy I strongly believe in and one that very much defines this site.

Heigl once again proves that there are many different definitions of family. We’re delighted that she and Kelley are expanding theirs, and we can’t wait to hear more details on their latest addition.
