Kate Gosselin Celebrates Sextuplets’ 13th Birthday, but Says It’s ‘Bittersweet’ Without Son Collin Around
It’s tough to believe that Kate Gosselin’s sextuplets are 13 years old. Gosselin has been raising the six of them plus her 16-year-old twin daughters as a single mom since she split up with human Ed Hardy shirt Jon Gosselin in 2009. The sextuplets celebrated their 13th birthday a couple months ago. This week their birthday celebration aired on their reality TV show, Kate Plus 8. They looked like they were having a fun time, but Kate Gosselin described the party as a “bittersweet” experience, because her son Collin wasn’t there.
Collin wasn’t at the birthday party.
The commenters on Gosselin’s Instagram and Twitter have been insistent since the birthday episode aired. They want to know where Collin is and what she did with him. A couple even accused her of secretly putting him up for adoption.
Collin is one of the sextuplets, and according to People he’s been enrolled at a program away from home for about a year.

”You can’t do anything without realizing he’s missing. So we may not say it, but it’s always there,” she said.
To celebrate the sextuplets’ birthday, they all went camping. They did archery and made s’mores. The 16-year-old twins decorated a big tent. They had a bonfire, and it seems like it was really fun. Kate said it was just like the previous year, except that Collin wasn’t there.
Collin’s at a live-in learning facility away from home.
Gosselin says Collin has special needs, and about a year ago she made the decision to send him to a live-in learning facility. Gosselin says Collin’s live-in program is helping him learn the skills he needs to reach his full potential.
”Collin has special needs,” she said. ”[There’s] a fairly fluid diagnosis of what those needs are, but he needs to learn certain strategies to help him deal with things.”
Gosselin says the whole family misses him, but he’s getting the specialized care he needs.
”I don’t know what the road ahead entails, but I’m very happy with the care that he’s getting, and am still completely comforted by the fact that he is so clearly exactly where he needs to be,” she said. ”It comforts me as a mother ”” because when you, as a mom, can’t give your kids what they need, it is a huge comfort to find people who can.”
