Julianne Moore To Give You Grownup Nightmares As Mother In ‘Carrie’ Remake

Julianne MooreThere’s probably no role too challenging — or even too scary– for Ms. Julianne Moore. Given the mother’s penchant for playing complex women, from Far From Heaven to The Hours, the award-winning actress certainly has quite a catalogue of disturbed, yet compelling women in her portfolio. But consider that list now properly bookend with a new role, as Julianne is all set to play the religious zealot mother in the remake of the very terrifying Carrie.

The Sun reports that Moore will be playing opposite Chloe Moretz from Kick-Ass in an even “darker” rendition of the film:

Chloe, who beat off competition from Dakota Fanning and Saoirse Ronan for the iconic role, recently revealed the new movie would be “darker and more psychological.”

The original Carrie wasn’t exactly tame, so even the thought of a more “psychological” version of Carrie (slated for release in 2013) is enough to keep me up at night — no images necessary. Not to mention the unknown darkness to which Moore is capable of taking this role. Sissy Spacek may have very well terrified many in the film based on Stephen King‘s novel, but Chloe Moretz will have to summon some pretty horrific demons to keep up with the always powerful Moore.
