Jenna Bush Hager Is Pregnant And The Shrub Is ‘Fired Up’ To Become A Grandfather

Former first daughter Jenna Bush Hager is pregnant and expecting her first child with her husband Henry. The 31-year-old made the announcement on the Today Show, where she is a correspondent. Jenna has said before that her parents were very eager for the couple to start a family, and that the fact she has a cat named Bernadette wasn’t enough for the Bush elders. Jenna and Henry, who works for investment firm KKR, met while campaigning for President Bush in 2004.

From USA Today:

Jenna, who got married in May 2008 at the Bush ranch in Crawford, Texas, has said her parents are eager for her to start a family. Former president George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, will become grandparents for the first time.

“I’m fired up,” George Bush said on a phone call to the show. “Lookin’ forward to it!”

And Jenna’s mom said: “We’re thrilled. We’re absolutely thrilled.” She added they “definitely plan to spoil” the grandchild.

As for what the grandchild will call George W. Bush? “Sir!” the former president replied.

On the phone call Wednesday, Matt Lauer asked the former president what he’d like his new grandchild to call him, as Jenna suggested “Popsicle.” The baby is due in the spring.

My parents were never weird about having my kids call them “Grandma” or “Grandfather” and never asked the kids to call them anything else, but they both ended up with nicknames due to the fact little kids have a hard time pronouncing almost everything. I have known many grandparents who have suggested that a child call them by their first name, which always seemed weird to me, but I guess it is better than calling them “Popsicle.”

Jenna Bush Hager has always seemed like a sweet person to me, at least from her television appearances, but I can’t help but think this is just another celebrity mom and we will all be subjected to another celebrity mom baby bump watch and speculations about how soon she will lose the baby weight. At least with this pregnancy, we get amusing quotes from a former president about how “fired up” he is to become a grandfather.
