Is Princess Beatrice’s Ridiculous Royal Wedding Hat Straight From Cinderella?

So here’s a confession: I told my daughters that Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were the evil stepsisters I’d told them about in Cinderella.

We were watching the aftermath of the royal wedding and I was keen to point out the flower girls so my daughters would be prepared for an upcoming wedding in which they’ll perform that role. So I was pointing out the various characters and couldn’t help but highlight out the carriage and other accoutrements. When they saw the aforementioned princesses, my older daughter gasped “Who are they?” And that’s when I did it: I told them that those were the evil stepsisters from Cinderella.

I knew it was bad and I shouldn’t have done it. Heck, I’m sure these girls are probably as perfectly nice as two children of that messed up family can be. But it was a visceral reaction to those dreadful outfits. The hat. Everything.

In any case, turns out I was onto something. As ingenious Facebook user Oflo Sohol has pointed out, these girls DO like they’re straight out of Cinderella. Playing the part of the evil stepsisters.

On a related note, it’s widely known that the mother of these princesses — Sarah Ferguson — wasn’t invited to the wedding. She’s had a spot of trouble in her life recently. In any case, my friend Taylor said that her own mother said to her “You should never feel the need to retaliate through headgear if I’m ever similarly snubbed from a wedding.” What a mom!
