Gwyneth Paltrow, Courteney Cox & More: Celebrity Moms Who Battled Postpartum Depression

gwyneth paltrow PPDGwyneth Paltrow suffered from postpartum depression after the birth of her son Moses, the actress revealed on the premiere episode of The Conversation With Amanda de Cadenet. Paltrow has actually written about her PPD before on GOOP, her much much-talked-about blog, but she’s once again brought the subject to light thanks to the recent TV appearance. As she explained to de Cadanet:

“[I] couldn’t connect to anyone. I felt like a zombie. I felt very detached… I just didn’t know what was wrong with me. I couldn’t figure it out. It never occurred to me. My husband [Chris Martin] actually said, ‘Something’s wrong. I think you have postnatal depression.’ I was mortified. ‘No I don’t!’ “

I must admit I was pleasantly surprised to hear Paltrow speak so candidly about an issue that affects countless moms. It seems people love to hate Gwynnie for all her GOOP-dom (i.e., her ability to make regular ol’ moms feel like crap). But her recent comments show another, very real and vulnerable side to this celebrity mom. Of course, Paltrow isn’t alone. She joins a long list of other celebs who’ve come public with their PPD a brave move that helps bring the condition to light and perhaps assure other women who are suffering in silence. Here’s a look at Gwynnie and the celebrity moms before here who have battled postpartum depression.
