Rape Victim Daisy Coleman In Hospital With Possible Brain Damage After Suicide Attempt
Melinda Coleman, mother of Daisy Coleman, a young girl who claims she was raped by two high school students when she was 14-years-old has told the press that her daughter tried to commit suicide by overdose Sunday night and is now hospitalized in Kansas City. According to Fox4KC.com:
According to her mother, Daisy had attended a party for about an hour Saturday night, and had been attacked immediately afterward on a number of Twitter accounts. Melinda said her daughter is in stable condition at a children’s psychiatric hospital in Kansas City as of Monday night.

On Friday night, Daisy briefly attended a party with a friend and arrived home to a stream of abuse on her Facebook page from two girls who she previously counted as friends.
‘I had let her go to a party with a friend, she was there for an hour and a half. Then she came home and saw Facebook. (One girl) decided to write something saying “you’re a fake and a phoney,” “you wanted it” and “you’re a slut” because she went to the party,’ Dr Coleman told MailOnline.
Another girl allegedly chimed in, calling Daisy a ‘hypocrite’ for going to the party.
Melinda Coleman has taken to Facebook to ask Anonymous for help in finding new evidence in the case that happened in January of 2012. All charged against the alleged rapist, Matthew Barnett, who is now 19 have been dropped.
After her daughter attended the party Saturday night she received numerous Facebook and Twitter messages from her peers, and Melinda says she has a grocery bag full of them:
‘She was in her room (Sunday night) then she walked into her brother’s room and said she was seeing ghosts and she was freaking out,’ Dr Coleman said of the horrific moment she learned her daughter had tried to kill herself. ‘She was acting very strangely.’
The mother said she and her sons got Daisy to vomit then they rushed her to the hospital where doctors pumped her stomach and put her on an IV. It’s unclear yet if she’ll suffer permanent damage from the overdose.

‘She’s not coherent, she makes no sense, she’s like a two year old,’ Dr Coleman said, breaking into tears again. ‘I asked the nurse if she thought she would get better and she said there was no way of telling.’
How awful for this poor girl and her family. I don’t know what the answer is, how Daisy could have ever been expected to lead a normal life in Maryville after the case came to light. Daisy went on to have numerous media appearances and she wrote a lengthy first person account of what her ordeal had been like for XoJane, but I’m not sure if any of their editors have remanded in contact with her. I would think that police should be shown the threatening social media messages Daisy received over the weekend, because it seems that the other parents should be aware if their kids are posting harassment on Facebook, but I’m not sure what else can be done.
As for the rape investigation, special prosecutor Jean Baker was assigned to re-investigate the case.
