This Couple Tried to Recreate the ‘Dirty Dancing’ Lift and It Didn’t Go Well

I think it’s safe to say that we all know what the Dirty Dancing lift is, right? It’s arguably one of the more famous movie scenes from the past thirty years. Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey make the lift look so effortless in the big dance number at the end of the movie.

In fact, Swayze and Grey made it look so easy that a couple from Somerset, UK, decided to try it after “larking around in a beer garden.”

Sharon Price and her fiance Andy Price were spending time with family at a pub when they decided it would be fun to attempt the famous lift. The couple told the South West News Agency that they love the movie and have seen it over 30 times. Sharon even suggested to Andy that they recreate the lift scene for their first dance at their wedding.

As people who have seen the movie over 30 times, you would think they’d remember the scenes with Baby and Johnny practicing the lift over and over in the water (not to mention the fact that Grey and Swayze are professionally trained dancers), but larking around in a beer garden can make you forget crucial details.

With their niece and nephew watching, Sharon and Andy went for it.

As Sharon told SWSA, “it’s fair to say it didn’t go to plan.”

No, it really didn’t.

”When I ran at Andy he tried to lift me, but we just collided,” Said Sharon. ”At first our family thought we were just messing about but they soon realized we had actually really hurt ourselves.”

Sharon had the wind knocked out of her, but Andy was knocked unconscious. Paramedics were called to the scene, and Andy was rushed to the hospital via ambulance.

Luckily, the couple is recovering well. “We are ok now but Andy has a bruised back and neck and my back still hurts,” said Sharon. She seemed to have a sense of humor about the incident, noting that the doctors at the hospital would laugh when she’d tell them how the accident happened.”

They’ve also realized their limitations. ”I think we’re going to go for a slow one for our first dance,” Sharon said.
