A Mom Is Facing Charges After Her Fifth Grader Showed up at School With a Tattoo

A Georgia mother is under arrest after her fifth grader showed up at a school dance with a tattoo ”” a real tattoo ”” a child with a tattoo on her shoulder. The state of Georgia forbids tattoos on minors, even with parental consent. Alarmingly, the girl allegedly received the tattoo at a Super Bowl party. Sounds safe.

The girl’s fifth-grade teacher at Arnco-Sargent Elementary in Newnan, GA, spotted the tattoo after the girl arrived at the March dance in a strapless dress. The tattoo features a cross with the words “Jesus Saves.”

According to 11 Alive, the girl changed her story several times when questioned about the tattoo. She first claimed that her father made her get the tattoo, and her mother got into a fight with him after she found out. Later, she said her father didn’t force her to get the tattoo, and that she’d wanted it.

“Each of the parents had a different story and it boiled down to frankly just finger pointing,” said Lt. Jason Fetner of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.

Fetner told 11 Alive that aspiring tattoo artist Brenda Gaddy gave several tattoos to people at the party, including three minors. There’s even video footage of Gaddy tattooing one of the minors. In the video, more than a dozen people can be seen watching the child get the tattoo.

Gaddy admitted to gifting the child with a tattoo but claimed the girl’s mother gave her permission.

The child’s mother has been charged with being a party to a crime, while Gaddy was charged with tattooing the body of a person under the age of 18.

“I think it’s unfortunate in that the child actually wanted to get the tattoo,” Fetner said to 11 Alive. “It’s not like the child was forced to get the tattoo, I think it just comes down to bad parenting.”

Seriously, the tattoo she has to be stuck with forever is not good.
