Casey Anthony Rejects Jailhouse Visit From Her Mom Cindy Anthony

Casey Anthony today rejected a jailhouse visit from her mother Cindy Anthony, ABC News reports. Casey, who on Tuesday was found not guilty of killing her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Anthony, is serving jail time in Orange County for lying to police (she’s set to be released on July 17).

Cindy Anthony’s attempted visit is what appears to have been the first step by Casey’s parents to speak to her since she was acquitted earlier this week, according to the report. It shows just how estranged Casey is from her parents, including her father George Anthony, whom Casey claims sexually abused her as a child (George denies those accusations).

During the emotional trial, Cindy Anthony testified about her granddaughter Caylee’s disappearance. It was Cindy who called 911 and reported Casey missing (in that same call, she told authorities that the car trunk smelled like someone had died in there). When leaving the witness stand, Cindy mouthed the words “I love you” to her daughter but was met with a shrug and eye roll from Casey.

In a recent post, Mommyish editor Mollie Hemingway wrote how it seemed that Casey Anthony’s parents both thought she was guilty of murder and yet they wanted their daughter to avoid punishment. Of course, no one will ever know that except for Cindy and George themselves. But Casey turning her mother away earlier today is yet another sign of their strained relationship. And, without any of us knowing the true details of their relationship, it shows the great lengths a mother is willing to go to in order to reach her child.
