Bella Thorne Opens Up About Devastating Sexual Abuse She Suffered as a Child

In an absolutely heartbreaking Instagram post, actress and former Disney star Bella Thorne opened up about the years of sexual abuse she endured as a child. Bella eluded to her abusive childhood in a tweet a few months ago, but hadn’t shared any of the details. Her story is horrific, but she’s using her platform to help other men and women who’ve experienced the same horrors feel less alone.

Bella Thorne shared a bit about her abuse in an Instagram story. She then posted another picture, and the caption goes into more detail.

The caption reads, “I was sexually abused and physically growing up from the day I can remember till I was 14..when I finally had the courage to lock my door at night and sit by it. All damn night. Waiting for someone to take advantage of my life again. Over and over I waited for it to stop and finally it did. But some of us aren’t as lucky to get out alive. Please today stand up for every soul Mistreated. #timesup

She included the hashtag #timesup, joining the chorus of women and men who’ve supported the Time’s Up initiative.

Fans and supporters flooded Bella’s comments and mentions with love and support. Many also thanked her for coming forward, saying it gave them the courage to open up about their own abuse.

Another account on Twitter retweeted a portion of the video from her IG story. In it, Bella tells fans that she loves them, and to stay strong.

In early December, a troll tweeted at Bella after she posted a picture of herself in a purple suit with the caption, “I would fuck this suit if I could.” The troll wrote, “What did Disney do to this girl?! I think she was molested?”

Bella replied, “Yeah I was. So it wasn’t Disney.” Pro-tip, trolls: shut the entire fuck up.

Bella has been acting and supporting her family since she was 6. Her father died in a car accident when she was 9, and she was raised by her mom, along with 3 sisters. She hit super stardom when she was cast in the hit Disney show Shake It Up. She hasn’t publicly identified the person who abused her for so many years.

Sending you so much love, Bella. You’re very brave, and we admire the strength you had to come forward.
