Woman Abandoned Her Newborn Under A Tree And I Would Have Happily Taken That Baby

baby abandoned under treeOne thing I will never understand about moms who give birth in secret is why they leave their babies in the worst possible places instead of like, giving them to me or some other woman who would happily take their babies from them. I guess there is mental illness involved, considering moms who do this are obviously desperately unhappy to have given birth, and are probably in an extremely fragile mental state, but sheesh stop leaving your newborns in terrible places and take them to a hospital where they can receive medical attention and be adopted into a loving home. From The Daily Mail:

A 21-year-old mother has pleaded guilty to leaving her newborn son under a tree, after giving birth in her boyfriend’s basement.

Kaitlin Norton was arrested several days after her baby was discovered in a blanket by a woman, who thought she had found abandoned puppies.

Norton pleaded guilty today to a felony charge of child endangerment at St Louis County Circuit Court.

After leaving her baby under a pine tree in Ellisville, Missouri, in February, last year, Norton went to hospital, where she handed herself in to the authorities.

At least this story has a somewhat happy ending, considering the baby was fine, but so many times the baby ends up dying and there are plenty of people in the world who would be happy to take these unwanted children from moms who leave them in trash bins or under trees. It’s just such a sad situation, and with states having these laws where women can bring their newborns into hospitals or turn them over to law enforcement if they don’t want them it’s so tragic to me that these cases keep happening. I can’t imagine what it is like for people who find these abandoned babies either, do they just go to the hospital and refuse to leave until they are positive the baby will be okay? If this has ever happened to you, you need to tell me because I have a million questions and also because I’m pretty sure if I found a baby I would be all “Finders, keepers, I am not leaving without this baby.”

But then again, I would do the same thing with a found kitten too.
