7-Year-Old Eden Wood Of ‘Toddlers & Tiaras’ Get Her Own Show, Society Reaches An All-Time Low

eden woodRemember Eden Wood from Toddlers & Tiaras? She’s the little girl who, at age 6, decided to “retire” from the world of kiddie pageants. This was back in July and, as her mom-slash-manager Mickie Wood explained at the time, Eden was simply ready to move on to bigger and better (including headlining the “Eden Wood and the Glamor Girls” tour of Midwestern shopping malls).

I hate to ruin your Friday morning and all but, well, the former beauty queen is now 7 years old and guess what? She has landed her very own TV show. Yup, her very own show. Called Eden’s World, the docu-series it premieres April 16 on Logo will follow Eden and Micki as they leave Arkansas for New York to share their pageant world secrets with other mini-beauty queen hopefuls. In fact, they’ll be coaching a different mother-daughter duo each week on how to make it in the vile world of child pageants. Of course, cameras will also follow little Eden as she pursues her own dreams to become a world-famous actor, singer and model.

Can I please remind everyone that this girl is 7 years old? Seven! I don’t know who is s more pathetic: Micki Wood for pimping out her daughter like this, network execs for allowing Eden’s World to be made, or the millions of regular people who will no doubt tune in and make the show a success?

“It’s hard being Eden Wood, but I love it,” she said in the trailer, and that alone is reason enough to want to wipe off her makeup and give her sold old-fashioned Lego to play with. I mean, who comes up with these things? The whole concept is wrong on so many levels.

First off, there’s the whole sexualization of children issue, which is sick but sadly, very real. In fact, just this week John Ramsey talked about his daughter JonBenet Ramsay, a former beauty queen who was murdered in 1996 at age 6. He said he regrets having let his daughter compete in pageants and advised strongly against it. “Regardless of where you live, there could be evil around you. Don’t be naive about it… Keep your kids protected,” he warned parents. “I now believe with all my heart that it’s not a good idea to put your child on public display.”

Then there’s the fact that Eden Wood has zero chance of a normal childhood, and that make me sad. (Remember, people, this is a girl who’s first-ever single, “Cutie Patootie,” contains lyrics like ”Rockin’ out the pageant stage and shakin’ my booty! Cutie, Cutie Patootie.”) I think of her future, and I cringe.
