10 Cutest Kids In Cosplay

Today is the first day of Comic Con, so you know what that means: cosplayers.

If you don’t know, cosplay is short for costume play, and is particularly popular among nerds. I say this with love, of course, because I am married to a massive nerd who makes his living nerding, and you just don’t bite the nerd that feeds you. Cosplay isn’t just throwing on a polyester cape from Party City, either. It takes dedication and skill and some cosplay is seriously nutso good.

I love cosplay.

I don’t really have a favorite character that I’d like to cosplay, except maybe Pam Poovey from Archer because it would give me an excuse to walk around with green Russians all day (not that I don’t do that already, it’s just now I would have an excuse).

To kick off Comic Con the right way, I scoured the internet looking for adorable cosplay kids, which is a strenuous and backbreaking job, I know. But I do it for you guys, okay? In the course of doing this, I came to the conclusion that really, cosplay is the only reason to have kids at all.

1. Chun-li from Streetfighter

Okay, so this is an old picture, but you can’t make a list of the most adorable kids in cosplay without talking about this teeny tiny ass kicker.

2. Russel from Up

I’ve actually got everyone’s favorite happycry movie up in the background as I write this and I can barely see through my tears right now. Russel is my favorite and this little kid channels him perfectly.

3. Voltron from Voltron: Defender of The Universe

I have so much love for this little girl. Between her completely accurate Voltron costume and that amazing look on her face, there is so much squee.

4. Link and Zelda from Zelda

That dress! That shield! I try my hardest to make my daughter the costumes that she likes with as much attention to detail as possible, but I’m not sure that I love her this much.

5. A Little Sister from Bioshock

This is so creepily adorable, and Bioshock is such a good game. I want to meet the parents that are cool enough to do this.

6. Sailor Jupiter from Sailor Moon

She even has the little rose earrings! Also, I might have to steal her shoes from her. It will be as easy as stealing shoes from a child.

7. Finn from Adventure Time

Any child who dresses up as a character from Adventure Time is already about four million times cooler than most of the adults in my life.

8. Boo from Monsters, Inc.

I need my child to go back in time to when she was tiny so that I can dress her up like Boo. Why did no one tell me this was an option?

9. An Ewok from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

D’AWWW look at that Ewok. Look at him RIGHT NOW.

10. Om Nom from Cut The Rope

Ohmygosh, this child is super duper adorable, right? Isn’t the costume amazeballs? Whoever made that costume has such skill, such grace! Okay, that’s my kid, but she’s still cute as fuck, right?

Oh, and p.s., if you have a much more adorable kid that you’ve put in cosplay and you wanted to share a picture of them, I think we can all agree that that would be fabulous.

My boys are running around in Superman and Batman T shirts as I type this. With capes. So glad I’m not the only nerd here.

  • Ursi

    CHUN LI!!!!!!

OH MY GOD THAT IS CUTE!

Ugh. Add this to the reasons I shouldn’t have children. Would force them to cosplay at conventions.

    • keelhaulrose

I’ll admit I not so subtlely suggested my daughter dress as the Doctor for her superhero day at school. Now we’re planning on going to the Chicago con and she wants to wear her Ten costume and thinks I should go as Eleven.
      I love kids in cosplay.

    • Ursi

do you mean Wizard World? Everyone I know is going.

    • keelhaulrose

Yes. Everyone I know is going, too! It’s going to be my daughter’s first con, but we’ve done some cosplay together before.

    • Ursi

jealous! EVERYONE good is coming as a guest this year. I can’t believe I’m going to miss out on Patrick Stewart.

    • keelhaulrose

It’s going to be a good one. I’m just glad I get to go. My goal is to go to the San Diego version, my cousin works in game design out there and she gets first stab at tickets, so she says if I can get out there we can go together.

    • keelhaulrose

      I found the pic.

    • LadyClodia the Modest Rat

      She is so cute!!!

      She is adorable!!

    • https://twitter.com/FaintlyXMacabre Theresa Edwards

This is the only reason TO have kids, okay?

    • Ursi

haha! i should re-adjust my thinking

  • keelhaulrose

You should have seen my daughter’s face this weekend when I told her you can dress as a Disney princess and it counts as cosplay. I now have “orders” for a Merida and Elsa dress.

  • Spongeworthy

I am dying right now from the cuteness!
We totally dressed the boy up as an Ewok this past Halloween. I’d post a pic but I don’t have any on my phone :(

    • https://twitter.com/FaintlyXMacabre Theresa Edwards

      >:(

    • Spongeworthy

I know…I’m going to try to see if I can work this out.

  • Jessie

*DIES OF THE CUTE* Aaand this is just about the only reason I want a kid, so I can dress them up in my nerdy fashions and costumes and slowly corrupt them into mine and their father’s nerdy world. I love cosplay myself, and even though I don’t get to go to Cons very much I still make cosplays to wear on Halloween and to random places. I would so do this to a kid of mine. <3

That Little Sister is FREAKING ADORABLE and I love her. She actually reminds me of this picture, which I have given my husband full permission to recreate should we ever have a daughter:

Okay for some reason it’s not posting in the original comment so let’s try again. Damn you, Disqus. >_>

It posted, I think you just have to refresh to see them sometimes. Because Disqus.

    • Jessie

Yeah I noticed. And now I can’t even delete this second one. Because Disqus. *shakes fist*

    • LadyClodia the Modest Rat

Mine don’t like to dress up. D: My 5yo won’t even wear a t-shirt I bought for him that is Peter Parker’s shirt opening up to reveal Spider-Man’s costume. I thought he would love it since he loves Spider-Man, but nope.

    • Jessie

Aww that’s too bad. D: Well maybe as he gets older he might see the fun in it a little bit more, because honestly when I was very young I was sort of the same way. Costumes annoyed me and only the promise of candy on Halloween got me even remotely interested. It wasn’t until I was closer to middle and high school and started getting into my geeky interests that I started feeling the desire to dress up as characters from the shows I watched, games I played, and books, mangas or comics I read, and then it was fun to see how well I could pull off the look of my chosen character (and how many people I could get wanting to take my picture, but that’s sort of something almost all cosplayers can relate to). Being a theater nerd also helped, because I got used to wearing costumes for shows, and it got me started on ACTING like my cosplay charaters while in costume at Cons, so that added another layer of fun for me. :D

    • LadyClodia the Modest Rat

I really don’t remember how I was when I was little. I remember wearing my Star Trek TNG uniform for a thing when I was in middle school, and in high school I randomly had my mom make me a poodle skirt which I wore to school on my birthday. But during those years we weren’t allowed to celebrate Halloween, so I had to get my costume-needs met at other times.

  • LadyClodia the Modest Rat

Squee! I lost it at Boo! And Om Nom is amazing. Of course, they’re all adorable!
I want to cosplay as Pam too! Last year I bought most of what I would need for the costume, but I wasn’t able to find a wig that would work to style in the right way. (Well I found one and ordered it online from China, but I never received it, grr.)
I love cosplay and my husband and I have cosplayed in the past, but my 5yo hates dressing up and even getting him to dress up for Halloween can be a headache; only the promise of candy sways him. My 2yo doesn’t really like it either. I so wish I could dress them up though.

    • keelhaulrose

The look on Boos face makes it. A couple Halloweens ago I saw a dad dressed as Sulley, a boy as Mike, and a baby as Boo and I nearly died of the cute.

    • https://twitter.com/FaintlyXMacabre Theresa Edwards

dying of the cute is a very real danger.

    • https://twitter.com/FaintlyXMacabre Theresa Edwards

Amber Nash had a Pam cosplay contest on Twitter last year, and I didn’t have the time to enter. I need a dolphin puppet

    • LadyClodia the Modest Rat

Oh yeah, I saw some of those!
I have a dolphin puppet! The hair is really my only problem. It’s much harder than I would have thought to find a long, straight, blonde wig without bangs.

    • https://twitter.com/FaintlyXMacabre Theresa Edwards

my husband posed as a manpam. one internet cookie if you find the picture

  • keanesian

    I want that Ewok!

  • Samantha Escobar

PAM FROM ARCHER IS AMAZING. I love her. I love her love her love her.

  • Williwaw

I was thinking about dressing my two year-old and both our cats as Minions for Hallowe’en. Especially because he seems to speak the Minion language.

    • koolchicken

All toddlers speak Minion. It’s what makes us ignore/forget all the heinous things they do to your house when you’re in the bathroom.

    • Williwaw

Yes, who can forget the epic grape-juice-and-alfalfa-sprouts incident, the knife-plus-leather-chair incident, or the fish food incident?

  • Guest

May I present my son, last Halloween, dressed as Heisenberg.

    • Cruelty Cupcake

      Liking this again just because

Now that I have two boys, I can’t fucking WAIT to dress them up as Mario and Luigi for Halloween. Maybe every Halloween for the rest of their lives.

    • LadyClodia the Modest Rat

Two Halloweens ago my son dressed as Luigi and my husband surprised him by dressing as Mario. That was the first year my son agreed to go trick-or-treating.

  • Sri

As a kid, I looked pretty much exactly like a real life Boo, to the extent that I got a lot of phone calls when the movie came out from my family members who had taken their kids to see the movie. If I ever have a daughter that looks like me, IDGAF if she wants to wear it more than once for a huge bribe, I’m making her wear that costume for a picture. I will buy that kid one of those stupid ride on dinosaur toys, I don’t care, but I will get a Boo picture.

On second thought, maybe I should just make myself an adult sized version of the costume, but I don’t look like her as much anymore, obviously, so some of the magic is gone.

  • SmrtGrl86

OMG Pam Poovey is my spirit animal! I’m going as street fighter Pam for Halloween this year, Celtic death tattoo on my back and everything.

  • http://overthecuckoonest.blogspot.com/ Wicked Prophet Kay Sue

Not one Doctor Who? *sad face*

I love the Ewok though. Tried to convince my youngest he wanted to be one for Halloween but he went with Cad Bane…

    • https://twitter.com/FaintlyXMacabre Theresa Edwards

I could have (should have) done like 50 more. It was so hard to pick. but I think that @keelhaulrose1:disqus has the best dr. who kid in cosplay fo da rizz.

    • http://overthecuckoonest.blogspot.com/ Wicked Prophet Kay Sue

I know. I ran across hers after posting. Got my fix! ;)

  • Jessi

This is why I will have children. The list of cosplay ideas to do for them and with them would last about ten lifetimes!

  • globalissues

Cute, there are lots of kids that have no food or proper clothes, I wish government would increase foreign aid funds

  • Bee

    I love this so much.
I told a friend I was pregnant, and she said “your kids are going to have the greatest costumes!” beacuse I love to dress up, Lol. I am due in a few weeks, and have been planning since Feb to dress up for Halloween as Sarah from Labrynth, with my husband as David Bowie, and baby as Toby. Lol. It got me through the boring crappy winter first trimester…. :)

    I have a Link, a Mini-Moon, and Gingka Hagane(from BeyBlade)

One of mine went as Finn from Adventure Time too! The oldest went wearing a suit and top hat, just cause he said he wasn’t going to go and decided to at the last minute, the five year old went as a Disney princess and I dressed the baby as Allie from Hyperbole and a Half, but I don’t think most people knew what she was supposed to be. I also took my eleven year old cousin, who didn’t dress up. I went as Katniss :)
I think I am somewhat brave for taking five kids under 12 (not on my own, my sister and her boyfriend went too), but for a few minutes I lost one of them.
