Busy Mom’s Cooking Hacks: 5 Clean Eating Crock Pot Meals

I love you, Socks!

I love you, Socks!

I’m all for doing anything and everything in a crock pot. I’ve posted some weird crock pot concoctions in weeks past, including but not limited to a chocolate dessert made with Dr. Pepper. This is pretty much as white trash as it gets, and I can say that because I live in Texas, and my white trash roots run deep.

Then there is the other side of the coin. I’ve recently started a clean eating diet for my toddler with zero gluten, dairy, and sugar to help control his allergies, eczema, and asthma. If anyone was wondering how it was going trying to stuff quinoa down the gullet of a two-year-old, the answer is GREAT—and I am not being sarcastic.

I think my son is just young enough where he still has no idea what’s going on. He’s happily eating quinoa balls and quinoa pie and quinoa scramble, and his skin is actually clearing up! I can’t even tell you what a relief this is. We have been trying every natural and medical remedy under the sun to clear up his eczema and allergies for two whole years. Finally, we’re getting some traction.

I thought it was about time that I merged the best of both worlds: the lazy slow cooker and the clean eating trend. Surprisingly enough, there are plenty of clean eating slow cooker recipes available if you want to try your hand at healthy fare for your family. Hopefully, they’ll be nicer than my toddler normally is and refrain from throwing organic food on the floor.

As always, these clean eating meals are hella easy to put together. Don’t forget to share your own recipes in the comment section below!

1. Crock Pot Chicken Tacos: Clean eating? Crock pot? Chicken? Tacos? Just stop talking already and put it in my face!

2. Crock Pot Turkey Breast: Super simple, super yummy, super clean. Also, if you hate home-roasted turkey, you have no soul.

3. Crock Pot Curried Millet: Millet is basically quinoa’s BFF in the clean eating world. I’ve made dozens of variations of millet to satisfy my picky toddler, and I can guarantee that your family will enjoy this flavorful soup.

4. Crock Pot Orange Chicken: I love me some shitty takeout orange chicken on a Friday night, eating on a TV tray whilst watching American Idol on DVR with my husband. #datenighttothemax This clean eating take on orange chicken might just satisfy me every other night of the week.

5. Crock Pot Beef And Broccoli: This delicious twist on a favorite Chinese dish uses Tamari instead of soy sauce to stick with the clean eating theme. It also causes me to use ridiculous puns, like, “See ya Tamari!” which upsets my family to no end. #sorrynotsorry

It’s great that your little guy likes quinoa and that the diet is starting to clear things up! I remember when I tried to get my then-two-year-old to eat quinoa he threw up. He couldn’t handle the texture of it, and he had the same problem with rice. At 5 he still won’t eat either of them or anything with a similar texture.
I also still need to get my crock-pot out of the box and make something in the damn thing.

    • Megan Zander

My husband won’t even eat quinoa. He calls it quin-won’t.

    • Bethany Ramos

      LOL!

    • Valerie

It reminds me of that amazing NFL commercial with the qui-no.

  • Tinyfaeri

The recipes sound delicious and I’m so glad the new diet is working for your son… but the whole “clean eating” thing makes my eye twitch. Whole wheat tortillas are not covered in dirt, they just contain gluten which the majority of the population can eat with no problem.

    • Bethany Ramos

I feel that – I was not on board until I HAD to. :)

  • Maria Guido

I love all of these recipes today!

    • Bethany Ramos

      Thanks!

  • Valerie

Awwww, look, Socks! Your Veggie Fetish Girl is professing her love for you! Better go buy her a bouquet made with cabbage and organic peppers. <3

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

      Already did!

    • Valerie

Cool. Now make me one with poison apples.

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

Um, I suppose I could replace the roofies with poison… but why?

    • Valerie

Because I am the evil queen. See avatar. Duh.

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

Supposebly there’s a movie coming out with Angie Jolie that’s supposed to dispel that myth.

    • Valerie

      No likey.

    • Kay_Sue

Naw, she’s not the Evil Queen, she’s Maleficent. They are two very different villains.

    • Megan Zander

How does one make a bouquet of roofies? Please include pictures and or diagrams in your explaination.

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

No no, Val wanted apples laced with poison. I only had ones laced with roofies for blind dates.

    • Valerie

I would need a picture first, Butt. No blind dates for this girl.

  • Valerie

They all look good but #4 is a tad reminiscient of baby diaper contents. But still looks yummmm.

      Y u hate asians? Waisis!

    • Valerie

Why you turn everything into waisis??

      Waisis!

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

      I’m a wais baiter

    • Valerie

      You’re something, alright. :-)

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

      >:(

      don’t like ambiguous insult/compliments

    • Valerie

Oh come on. I just spent several minutes Skyping with Megan talking about you- that you are smart and kind and that we like having you around. Better?

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

      >:(

      don’t like being patronized

    • Valerie

I guess I cannot win today! I would c&p the convo but I don’t want my last name on Mish. :-)

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

      :D yay! I win!

    • Valerie

      Wot?

    • Bethany Ramos

I am 100% sure you are George Clooney.

    • Valerie

      #positive

    • FormerlyKnownAsWendy

OHMYGOD! This is how it happened! I KNEW if we kept throwing names at him it would work. 10 hours later, I am catching up! A thousand thank yous, I was tired of looking at “Butt Trophy!”

    • Valerie

No, for cereal- I am confused. You win because you wore me down and made me stop being sarcastic and admit that I actually do think you are a decent person?

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

Now that you typed it out, the savor of victory is even sweeter!

    • Valerie

If it makes you happy. Lol.

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

♡♥♡♥♡♥ You make me happy Val ♡♥♡♥♡♥

    • Valerie

If we were on Skype, I would send you the little emoticon face putting on her lipstick and making a kissy face.

    • Megan Zander

Oh man, I was totally going to make that tomorrow until I read this.

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

Great, now Val’s sinophobia is spreading! >:(

  • Megan Zander

Beth if you don’t mind me asking, are you doing sugar free as in no sugar at all no fruit, no maple syrup or no sugar as in no refined sugar?

    • Bethany Ramos

Don’t mind at all – yes, it is absolutely no sugar for the time being. We use liquid Stevia to sweeten things, and he can eat sour fruits, like berries, Kiwi, and grapefruit. This is only slightly temporary though because I want him to be able to have sugar from time to time in the future – not be bubble boy. :-)

    • Valerie

But Bubble Boy would work really well for our future in the Creepy Moms Club. Just something to think about.

    • Bethany Ramos

      Omg, yes. #rideordie

    • EmmaFromÉire

You could decorate his bubble for Motherboy competitions

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

I’m starting to feel left out of these subfactions forming in M’ish…

      :(

    • Valerie

      SKYPE

    • Megan Zander

I give you so much credit, that has got to be a lot of kitchen prep and cook time. Glad it’s helping!

    • Bethany Ramos

Thanks!! It is pretty tough, but the more I think about it, I think it is better to do it at this age when he is 2 and can’t really understand when he doesn’t get treats. :)

    • Obladi Oblada

I’m interested in this too. My cousin’s middle child has the eczema problem too. Allllll over his little body. They haven’t found a thing that worked yet. I’ll mention this to her but any pointers would be helpful. I think at this point they are willing to try anything. :)

  • Tea

These are nice. We’re paleo-ish due to food allergies and my crock pot helps me keep at it when my inner lazy ass says “Tea, get pizza, drink beer, let any health issues be future-Tea’s problem.”

And then I throw a slab of beef into the crock pot, add onions, garlic and red chilies, and go back to working.

The only downside is having a crock pot and working from home can make you crazy. You’re either starving for whatever is in there by the time your working spouse gets home, or you’ve smelled it so long you don’t want it anymore.

    • Bethany Ramos

You’ve just described my life’s dilemma.

    • Rachel Sea

I have occasionally put my crock pot in the garage for that reason.

    • Kay_Sue

Your last paragraph is my life since I started staying home with the kiddos. I always say you know you’ve got it right when you start considering eating your own fingers while it is cooking…

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

Cook it in the garage Kay

    • Kay_Sue

      <<<<< Has no garage. :(

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

Or outside? You have an outside right?

    • Kay_Sue

I do, but I don’t think I want to put my crockpot out there. My kids/neighbors kids/my dog/neighbors’ dogs….too many risk factors. ;)

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

That’s true. If I see my neighbor cooking something outside unattended, I might dump a bottle of habinero sauce in it

      :D

    • Kay_Sue

Remind me not to move near you….

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

      :(

I would never do that to you…

    • Kay_Sue

I don’t believe you…you would totally troll my unattended crockpot.

    • @Real_George_Clooney

I would never troll or harm you in anyway :(

    • Kay_Sue

      Awww. I appreciate the consideration.

  • Butt Trophy Recipient

    Hey, where’s Eve?

    • Bethany Ramos

She took a few weeks off and should be back soon, maybe Monday!

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

OOOH, whew, I was kinda worried something unfortunate happened and have been afraid to ask…

    • Guest

I saw on another post that her sister passed away. :(

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

      What???

    • Valerie

      :-( I know, I feel terrible.

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

      :(

    • Kay_Sue

Hey, tell her we’re thinking of her if you guys talk to her, would you? She’s been missed, although I totally understand why she needed the time.

    • Butt Trophy Recipient

      Same here… :(

    • Valerie

Beth has an address to send cards. Just sayin.

    • Bethany Ramos

      I will!

    • Kay_Sue

Thanks. I thought about Facebooking her or something, but decided against it. I prefer stalking you all in secret instead. :)

  • Kay_Sue

These all look delicious….but I see no chili recipe as ’twas mentioned on Twitter. :( :P

I definitely am digging the turkey and the beef and broccoli though. I’m obsessed with broccoli.

    • Bethany Ramos

I couldn’t find clean chili – lol! Next week, I am back to white trash full-force. ;)

    • Kay_Sue

I am eagerly awaiting it! :-P Although, we’re officially out of chili weather down here anyway.

    • Bethany Ramos

Ugh, us too. I guess we can eat chili and sweat. :(

    • Kay_Sue

I think it gets cooler around, like, two or three in the morning. Maybe I will head outside then and eat some on the stoop…;)

    • Valerie

Please include a feature on how Dr. Thunder is the perfect White Trash accompaniment to any of your crockpot meals. #thanks

    • Bethany Ramos

      DONE.

    • Obladi Oblada

      DR. THUNDER! Bahahahahaha

    • Linzon
  • SA

Yum! I’m doing a beef and broccoli crockpot for the first time this week and I need to compare this recipe to what I have – might do this one instead. :)

You should check out 100 Days of Real Food if you haven’t already – some great recipes (have had a couple of misses though). The crockpot pork is FANTASTIC and can be thrown together in like 5 minutes. Making it for the grandmothers this weekend.

    • Bethany Ramos

Thank you, I will check it out!

    • SA

Ooh…also recommend the carrot applesauce muffins from that site….dear god yum.

  • Sarah

I think this is my favorite crockpot pinup photo yet.
