15 Stylish Haircuts That Prove You’re A Mom

shutterstock_88187953

If you’ve ever uttered the words “graduated bob” before, then you just might be a mom. I promise you I am not here to rag on the mom haircut, but I am here to share my objective observations.

Many, many of my friends have subtly changed their hairstyles after popping a baby out of their lady parts. Now, I assume that these friends didn’t check out of the hospital and go directly to the Cuttin’ Corral to get a shoulder-length, layered do that is easy to style with a baby under one arm. But as the postpartum months passed, the hair got shorter.

The mom haircut is a sure sign that you’re a grown-up lady without much time to get ready in the morning. But as you look a little closer, you’ll see that the mom cut isn’t all business—it normally has highlights or lowlights or feathering or some kind of fancy bangs that you can style for a special anniversary date night once a year. Now it all makes sense.

You might be a mom if you’ve rocked one of these stylish cuts in the carpool lane before:

#6 is what I call the “Carol Brady.”

  • Lilly

ha ha, these would all take me longer to style in that they require straight hair (except for #4)

    • Rose

That’s what I said! Clearly, these moms have time to flatiron their hair! PFT!

Also, I saw zero ponytails. This list is made of lies.

  • airbones

Also very popular in the Phila. stripper scene. No lie.

  • Kay_Sue

I feel the need to get my haircut again. It’s far too long right now, I’m afraid people with start questioning my Mom Status.

    • Bethany Ramos

Your mom card will be pulled!

    • Kay_Sue

      Oh dear.

Wait…will they take the children when they pull said card? Because right now the eldest has been home all week sick and he and his brother are at each other’s throats………

    • Bethany Ramos

You could only be so lucky! My two kids were sick on and off for this past MONTH, and I really, really almost lost my shit. I feel your pain!

    • Robotic Socks

      Purple?

    • Kay_Sue

Dunno. I might actually go for purple. Walk on the wild side…

    • Robotic Socks

DOIT! Change your name to Deyvonna and find a new career!

    • Kay_Sue

      Bwahahahaha.

It’s actually much longer than the wig pictured too. I had all kinds of crazy bobby pinned wheels going on to get it tucked up under my wig cap…such a pain in the ass. I fell asleep with the pins in and woke up all Bride of Frankenstein-esque with everything going in crazy directions.

  • Megan Zander

I cant pull off the styling required for any of these, not even before I had rug rats.

  • NYBondLady

Last night I had a dream, no joke, that I cut my long hair into a much shorter bob, just like #7. Nightmare or premonition? Only time will tell…

    • Bethany Ramos

      Doooooo it.

    • NYBondLady

Seriously thinking about it. Long hair can be such a PITA, especially in the hot summer months. I’ll keep the asymmetry to a minimum.

    • noodlestein

And see, I think long hair in the summer is SO much easier, because I can just scrape it into a ponytail. I’m not a mom, though, so that could account for my heresy!

    • http://Mommyish.com/ Eve Vawter

DO NOT DO IT I did it #regrets4ever

  • Bic

Well apparently I’ve been a mom since the age of 12. Who knew!

    • shainamaydel

Me too. *high fives* short hair just looks good on me and is so much easier! and i hate ponytails! i let it grow in the winter now because my boyfriend likes long hair and i don’t mind it when it’s cold out, but the second the weather warms up…chop!

    • Bic

Exactly high fives back. I look awful with long hair and for every inch ten years older. Nope not happening here.

  • http://www.twitter.com/ohladyjayne allisonjayne

I had plans to get a Chelsea after my baby was born. I ended up chickening out on that though. Someday.

  • abby k.

You forgot the ‘I haven’t had a haircut in….a year? Maybe longer? Ponytail’. It’s all the rage now. Slap those bangs back with a clippie and you’ve reached a new level of ‘tired woman’ style.

    • Jenna Nieves

This times a million. Is ombre still a thing? Because I’m pretty sure that is my new look because I haven’t had a hair cut or dye job in almost a year.

    • http://www.twitter.com/ohladyjayne allisonjayne

Ha. my hair was “ombre” when I was pregnant because I stopped dyeing it. I had a lot of people tell me “oh I wondered if you were pregnant when I noticed that your hair looked crappy”.

    • Marianna

WTF? People actually said this to you? What happened to “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all”?

    • http://www.twitter.com/ohladyjayne allisonjayne

Ha. Just a couple of people. Friends who manage to get away with being blunt because they can somehow be so charming about it. :) I guess it’s a backhanded compliment that normally my hair looks really good? That’s the way I decided to take it.

    • JulesInFL

I rock that look! Plus the occasional ‘need to dye my grey roots and temples again… UGH.’

  • radicalhw

I loved my angled bob in the mid-’90s, when everyone else had a Rachel. Now, through a variety of Mom-like accidents, everyone else has a Posh and I have a Rachel.

  • Valerie

I’ve kept my long swingy porn-y hair that I wear straight and naughty-style despite my mom status. It is def not Duggar-approved.

    • Natasha B

I love that. Tagging all future hair pics #notduggarapproved

  • MoLiss

Shit, I had no idea I had “Mom hair” for my entire 20′s…now that I’m giving birth in two months and going to be 29, I’m growing it out…

    • Kendra

I cut my hair off shortly before getting pregnant, and then grew it out from that point on. So, my hair now is longer than it has been in ever. I’m doing it wrong.

  • http://nessyhart.wordpress.com/ pixie

Apparently I had mom hair when I was 17, except it was purple with pink highlights. Here’s a picture to prove it.

    • Bethany Ramos

      You are/were so cute!!

    • http://nessyhart.wordpress.com/ pixie

      :D

    • Valerie

      She is adorable.

    • Natasha B

      Adorbs.

    • http://nessyhart.wordpress.com/ pixie

      Aw, thanks :)
I really want to do that to my hair again. I’m saving my money for it!

    • Robotic Socks

      Hawt with Mom Jeans

    • http://nessyhart.wordpress.com/ pixie

Nah, I totally rocked the skinny jeans at 17 because I thought I was cool and edgy.

Wait, I still rock skinny jeans because I think I’m cool and edgy!

    • Robotic Socks

      OH! Skimommy Jeans™

      We’ll make hundreds!

    • http://www.twitter.com/ohladyjayne allisonjayne

      me tooooo

    • http://nessyhart.wordpress.com/ pixie

Yay for being cool and edgy!

    • Bill the Cat

Nothing wrong with being a mom at 17.

    • http://nessyhart.wordpress.com/ pixie

Nope, there isn’t. I wasn’t, and I’m still not yet at 23, but there’s nothing wrong with young mothers.

    • Robotic Socks

BTW, you two are fellow America’s Hats

    • Bill the Cat

      What are you talking aboot?

    • Robotic Socks

      LOL

    • http://nessyhart.wordpress.com/ pixie

      He’s saying we’re both Canadians.

    • Bill the Cat

I’m more a Maple Leafs fan, unfortunately.

    • http://nessyhart.wordpress.com/ pixie

LOL. Same here, because I feel obligated to root for the home team.

    • Robotic Socks

      He meant the Maple Leaves

damn tree hugger with bad grammar

    • Bill the Cat

They were named after the Maple Leaf WW1 regiment. It’s a proper noun so to pluralize it you simple add an ‘s’.

    • http://wtfihaveakid.blogspot.ca/ jendra_berri

The Leafs are an introduction to unconditional love. They’ll disappoint you, and yet you keep coming back.

    • http://nessyhart.wordpress.com/ pixie

      They really are.

    • Bill the Cat

      I didn’t have kids at 23 either…that I know of anyway.

  • JLH1986

I just shaved some of my hair…if I get pregnant do I have to grow it out to be a mom or is it cool to just have short hair?

    • JLH1986

My Miley-Not Miley hair. Please tell me I don’t have to grow this out to be a mom.

    • Robotic Socks

You’re only a few steps from being Miley! DO IT!!!!!!!

    • Megan Zander

No way, this looks a million times better than miley

    • Robotic Socks

While I completely agree, you’re not saying much either…

    • Megan Zander

Meaning Miley isn’t all that to begin with? And JLH is gorge? YES to both.

    • Robotic Socks

      Both truths

    • JLH1986

I think if I stuck my tongue out I could totally look like Miley.

    • Valerie

      You are way cuter.

    • http://nessyhart.wordpress.com/ pixie

      Very nice. :)

    • JLH1986

Gracias. I just wacked all my hair off because long hair is NOT my thing. :)

    • http://nessyhart.wordpress.com/ pixie

I’m still trying to grow mine, even though it annoys me some days. I can braid it now, though!

    • JLH1986

I tried like hell to grow mine out. I was able to get it in a pony tail! But I have very fine hair so by 5 I look like I haven’t showered, even if I just showered that morning. Plus ponytails hurt my head. I would love LONG hair but…that’s just not gonna happen for me!

    • Bethany Ramos

      I love it!! So gorgeous.

    • JLH1986

Aww thanks! :) I was a little nervous but…it’s just hair it grows back. Right?

    • Bethany Ramos

I had short hair in HS (it’s very curly), and it’s always fun to do at least once or on a whim! :-)

    • CMJ

OMG, why is everyone SO CUTE!

    • JLH1986

Its mommyish it attracts lovely people!

    • Natasha B

I love it! If I saw you at the playground with kids I’d totally try and awkwardly make friends.

    • JLH1986

Lol I am awkward so it probably would be totally normal!

  • Valerie

Behold. The closest I ever came to Mom Hair. 2 years ago and I did it because my daughter was upset that she had her hair cut and it wasn’t “like mommy’s” any more:

    • Valerie

And please excuse my sweaty wreck look. We had been at an amusement park all freaking day and I was all done with being amused.

    • Natasha B

Your hair is so shiny. I want to pet it. Is that weird?

    • Valerie

Not at all. I love being petted! So relaxing!

    • rrlo

You are so pretty! I love your hair.

    • Valerie

Aww, thank you! That is very sweet.

    • http://nessyhart.wordpress.com/ pixie

      Cute :)

    • Valerie

So are you. I would love it if ever in my lifetime I could have pulled off pink and purple hair like a boss.

Wot? I always upvote your comments…

even the long winded TL;DR read ones

      **runs away!!!

    • Valerie

Really? Huh. Lol. Now I feel like an ass. I don’t think my shit updates in a timely fashion.

    • Robotic Socks

You should go at least once a day. Drink more water.

    • Valerie

I was thinking of trying a cleanse. This might be the *push* I needed.

    • Bethany Ramos

      I LOVE YOU!!!!!

    • Robotic Socks

      Go on…

    • Robotic Socks

      puahahahaha

    • Valerie

Now see, when I want to convey an “evil laugh” over the interwebz I’ve always used “bwahahaha”. I have never seen it with a p before. I suppose it works, though.

    • Robotic Socks

      More spit with ‘P’

    • Valerie

Ok, I can see that. But I am seeing it as a Robot wearing socks.

    • CMJ

I CANNOT TAKE HOW AWESOME EVERYONE IS!

    • itpainsme2say

      You look so aprochable

  • My2bits

Oddly enough, I had all but one of those haircuts before I was a mom. Since I became.om, I’ve grown my hair super long with layers. I think I am fighting to stay young and cool. :) (And I can braid it or throw it in a ponytail on super rushed days.)

    • My2bits

*became a mom. That was a really strange autocorrect.

    • Kay_Sue

I feel like it was a very meditative autocorrect. I find myself chanting “become…ommmm..” and it is quite relaxing. ;)

  • keelhaulrose

I’m rebelling against mom hair by dying it different colors.
But I am thinking of going much shorter because it’s getting to be a pain.

    • Megan Zander

Are you doing traditional colors or are we talking blue and lilac? Bc I have been playing around with the idea of doing some fun non natural color highlights, since I’m not working and will never be able to do it once I’m back at work, but I can’t decide if it would be cool and edgy, or make me look sad and old.

    • Natasha B

As soon as I push this kid out early June, I am getting the bottom 4in of my thick, dark, long but layered hair dip dyed either magenta or blue. No mom hair here. And in my suburb, the blonde bob is standard. #rebel. And I’m hoping for cool, not old and sad, but we’ll see how it works.

    • keelhaulrose

Right now I’ve got pink, much along the lines of the picture below.
Next I’m going to red, but a darker red, not fire-engine, more red-delicious apple. Same style, different color.
I have had my hair every color of the rainbow and then some at one point or the other, and my only caveat when it comes to non-traditional colors is to check what it fades to, so go online and find people who have had that color before. The blue I had and the lilac both faded to gray-ish, which is not something I wanted in college!

      http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rotIj1kywa8/UZThU0pOP0I/AAAAAAAADDU/1WaXvaFX0I0/s1600/Penelope-Garcia-penelope-garcia-20020005-800-1200.jpg

    • Bethany Ramos

      Now I want pink too.

    • Megan Zander

Love. I just got really light blonde highlights, so maybe I’ll play around with some Kool aid, see what I like.

    • Jezebeelzebub

I have blue and purple in mine. I dont give a fuck all day if it makes me look sad and old, I like it. And I’m not sure if this is a mom-haircut.. but it totally is because it’s my haircut and I am a mom. Therefore, mom haircut.

    • Megan Zander

No, that’s edgy and cool all the way.

    • Jezebeelzebub

Heh, when I went to get it cut, I showed the lady pictures on my phone… OF RHIANNA. I wanted her haircut but I knew it would look different on my hair, but I felt like a jackass bringing in goddamn Rhianna like I’m still in my 20s. (Which I most certainly am NOT.)

    • Bethany Ramos

      Very cute!!

    • http://nessyhart.wordpress.com/ pixie

      I like it :)

    • Jezebeelzebub

      thank you!

  • CMJ

OMG. Why are we all so cute!!!!?? I have short hair so is that a mom cut??

    • Valerie

Nope. And I love the sunglasses and the cheeky half-smile. Way cute.

    • CMJ

I had just gotten my haircut (I cut all my hair off) so I figured a selfie on public transportation was necessary.

    • http://nessyhart.wordpress.com/ pixie

      Very pretty :)

    • JLH1986

      So pretty!

    • Bethany Ramos

      You are SO CUTE!!

    • Robotic Socks

      Beth’s said everyone’s cute so far…

      … except me

      :(

    • Bethany Ramos

You are the cutest. Where is your mom pic??

    • Robotic Socks

You want my preggers or post-preggers pic?

    • Bethany Ramos

      Before and after!

    • Valerie

I think it’s time you reveal yourself. You should do it like the guy on Home Improvement. You know, with the fence covering everything but his eyes?

    • Robotic Socks

I did have a very fuzzed out selfie as my avy for a while :D

    • Valerie

Must be shame due to your post-baby body preventing you from sharing yourself with the world.

    • Bill the Cat

      Damn sympathetic pregnancies…

    • http://creativefluff.com/ Fred McCoy II

The scarf is fabulous. And those are definitely Ray Bans. Such style. So Mom. Wow.

  • Natasha B

No mom hair here. I’m rebelling against all the bobbed blondes in my ‘hood. Past shoulder blades, dark layers that actually work that sock bun look on day 3 hair. And as soon as baby pops out, I’m getting the bottom 4in dip dyed some crazy color. Magenta or blue, maybe.
Everyone I went to HS with had the business in the back mom hair. It just looks like more work than long hair.

  • Ptownsteveschick

See these are all straight hair people hair cuts. My mom hair cut looks much less like these and more like “I cut this myself twice a year” My profile pic is my first real haircut in 2 years, I’m loving it. But I think it is totally mom hair.

    • Bethany Ramos

      Your pic is very cute!

  • Bill the Cat

I like ladies with no hair:

    • Robotic Socks

      Wrong photo again?

    • ICEMAN!!!!

      You shaved TS?

    • Igottagetoutmore

Why does this cat remind me of chicken skin?

PS I have had Mom hair since high school. Apparently it is a good cut for someone with long/oblong face shape even though I covet long shiny pretty hair. I spent 2 years growing out colour (why hello ombre) to cut it off and turn around and highlight the hell out of it 1 month later.

Off topic but I always went for highlights as it seems less “roots” when I didn’t keep it up but is a solid colour better?

PSS I am also an American hat. I watch as the Leafs lurch from bottom of the barrel to mid-level success and back again.

  • Zorbs

I have below boob length black to blonde ombre. Last summer it was bright teal. Before I had my son, I told my stylist that if I went into the salon wanting a mom bob, she was to smack me repeatedly until I came to my senses.

    • ICEMAN!!!!

Yes, but the real question is……. How long are your boobs.

    • Bill the Cat

^^Eve’s gonna ban you before me!

    • ICEMAN!!!!

I thought we were racing? Besides Eve and I go way back.. We’re tight!

    • Robotic Socks

Dude, I was only half joking… she has no idea WTF you are, nor does she care…

    • ICEMAN!!!!

Dude…. Uhm no kidding. I haven’t been here in over a year. Chill out.

  • Jallun-Keatres

LOL I can do exactly none of these. My hair ain’t straight! Ponytail every day 4 LYFE!

  • Jennifer Freeman

#4 is super cute! I wish I had some sort of texture to my hair to pull it off. My husband and I were just discussing mom hair the other day. My hair is currently mid-back with an unintentional ombre (thanks to nothing more than me being too lazy to get it cut and highlighted) and I told him I was thinking about getting it cut. He said “As long as you don’t get a bob. A bob is a sign that you’ve given up.”. WTF! When we met I had a very layer-y bob, and while we were dating I switched to #13 (briefly but my large Slavic head did not fare well).

  • Jessica

Anyone else think #4 is super cute?

    • Jennifer Freeman

I do! I have hair envy! If I had some sort of texture I would rock that style 4eva

    • Roberta F.

I really like #4 too, mom haircut status be damned! I have been contemplating getting a haircut similar to it and wish they had a better picture so I could take it to my hair stylist. My hair is to shoulders right now and since it is naturally wavy but temperamental, I straighten it almost every day, which is killing it. Plus, that would mean an extra 45 minutes of sleeping in every morning! I am at the point where I just want to chop it off and have a fresh start,

  • kay

Not long before I got pregnant I chopped my hair off (to donate, and because I was having a quarter life crisis like whoa). My best friend exclaimed “aww you got per-emptive mom hair! now you’re really ready for a baby!”

…I have had one haircut in the two years since. Long hair don’t care. Or something.

  • val97

Great, I have a hair appointment after work today. Good timing because I’m going for #13. I guess I’m about to have mom hair. It’ll be better than my long, unstyled mess that’s usually in a pony tail.

  • Nat G

I like #5 and #15. Number 10 looks good too but I don’t think it looks like “Mom’s hair”.

  • Kendra

HOORAY for me! Having mom hair when I was in college! Getting started early.

    • Robotic Socks

Only if you got knocked up in college. Otherwise, you’re cheating

    • Kendra

Definitely not. It was early mom prep. Right? That’s not cheating, it’s just like studying for the test or something!

    • Robotic Socks

      Judges?

    • Megan Zander

Studying for parenting via hairstyle is allowed under section 145b(a)(1h).

    • Kendra

      SEE!!!

    • Robotic Socks
    • Bill the Cat

I did a lot of practicing how to become a parent in college too!

  • CW

I’ve had #1 and #7. The picture I took to the salon for one of those cuts was Brooklyn Decker, who is NOT a mom but rather a 20something lingerie/bikini model.

  • MellyG

ok – i clearly can’t become a mom, because i can’t rock ANY Of those. My hair is SUPER thick and curly frizzy, if i had that cut it would be a mom-fro. And i suck with a blowdryer. If my hair isn’t down to my butt i have no clue what to do with it! (the answer when it’s down to your butt…..easy to braid or twist up! no blowdrying involved!)

    • noodlestein

      It would be a MO-FRO!!!! :D

    • noodlestein

Sorry for the caps – got excited at my own cleverness, haha!

    • Bill the Cat

What about a curly short hair style like this?
Just add scrunch spray and let it dry or use a hair dryer and a diffuser and voila.

    • MellyG

My actual mom can rock that, mine is just……too big. I’ve done short before, anything above my shoulders is just bad. Oh so bad. Like trauma bad, lol

  • SusannahJoy

My hairstyle consists of a bun that I put up without brushing it, and very possibly without washing it (the oil helps keep it in place!).

    • MellyG

Washing it too frequently is bad for your hair. I come from a family of hair dressers so i can justify my hair washing laziness. Were you by chance ever a dancer? I find the bun style sticks…….

    • SusannahJoy

No, but my sister was, and yeah, I’m all about the ballet bun.

    • Amanda

I too rock the ballet bun. Daily – its a shame really because if I Ever had time to do anything with it I have decent hair and its almost 3/4 of the way down my back , but no one ever knows this because its always in a bun. In the mornings for school drop off and on shit days its a messy bun.

    • MellyG

When i actually DO my hair, which is down to my butt, i get ooohed and ahhhed all over. That’s like….once a month if i can be bothered. The rest of the time it’s in a ballet bun, various stages of neat

    • Ddaisy

Absolutely :) My ballet teacher always instructed us not to wash our hair for at least two days before a recital!

  • Ms. Anne

Well, THAT’S why I very unexpectedly got pregnant in 2010– at the end of 2009 I chopped off my hair into an angled bob and dyed it dark red (it really was quite cute, if I do say so myself). Instant MOM status! I kept it that way for a while and just started growing back longer, more layered hair recently. Short hair is too much work! Since I already don’t drink wine, I fear I may soon be kicked out of the mom club.

    • Bethany Ramos

Hhahaha mom hair causes pregnancy. ;)

  • candyvines

Here’s my hair. It’s so fine and straight that it doesn’t look good long so I’ve kept it in a pixie for a long time now. I probably won’t grow it out again unless it turns silver.

    • http://nessyhart.wordpress.com/ pixie

      very nice :)

    • candyvines

      The pixie is Pixie-approved. Thanks!

    • http://nessyhart.wordpress.com/ pixie

      Of course ;)

      You are so pretty!

    • candyvines

      Thanks, lady!

    • Miriam

That is a very hip haircut.

    • candyvines

Don’t tell anybody, cause it’s a secret, but it’s super easy to maintain.

    • Miriam

      What? What?!

    • candyvines

Argh, I can’t tell if you are joking, so this might be more than you care to know – I get a cut pretty often (every 6 weeks or so) but other than that really don’t do much to it.

    • Miriam

I’m not joking at all. It’s a great cut and it suits your face. I tried growing mine out but it was a disaster. I just got it chopped off, but not as short as yours. I like your cut better than mine.

    • candyvines

Cut more! It will grow back fast if you don’t like it. I sort of like how the front gets quite a bit longer before I get it cut again so it’s like two haircuts in one.

    • Miriam

Don’t think I could pull it off. But it really looks great on you.

    • candyvines

Thanks! I was worried that I was going to regret putting my photo on the internet, but this has been very pleasant :)

    • Jezebeelzebub

I *know* I could not pull this off. I would be all FAAAAACE!!!!!!! Not okay. it looks lovely on her. (or you. or…you know what I mean.)

    • Mork Salad

      Nice!

    • candyvines

      Thanks! I like your username.

      You are too cute.

      Backatcha!

I had lovely long hair when I was pregnant. Then I worried about hair loss and cut it and got it layered so it wouldn’t look back. I needn’t have worried. It’s so damn thick you can’t notice.
Then I got bangs. Again, big waste. Tons of hair did fall out and now my hairline is growing back, along with the bangs I’m growing out… so I have two layers of bangs, one to my chin, and a wispy layer above my eyebrows. I’m hot, I tells you.

  • Tinyfaeri

According to this, I had mom hair before I was a mom… and now it’s below my shoulders and blonde because I let my 2 year old pick out the color, and I haven’t had a haircut in over 2 years. All the pictures of everyone are lovely!! :)

Fashionable shag carpeting is great for the main upstairs part of the house, but for downstairs bare tile with maybe a nice microfiber throw rug at the front door is the way to go.

  • Guets

Is it just me or do most of these look the same? My hair grows like a weed so once it is at boob-level I lop it off either short bob or angled bob usually. Still not pregnant yet…must be doing it wrong.

    • http://therantboard.com/rants.html NinjaDogma

      The “Stepford” cut?

    • Guets

      I think I’ve done 1, 3, 7, 9, 11, & 14. Must. try. harder.

Mom cut to me = looks like you gave your 3 year old the scissors and said have fun honey. And unless you’re worried your daughter’s feelings will be hurt for not being the cutest in the room, why even shoot for a “mom” cut? Go with the style that best compliments your physique and features… something to which your romantic interest will find sexy and your friends will pay genuine compliments.

      My work is done here.

      Hey, I know you.

  • Jessica

I cut off all my hair in November & one of my biggest concerns was it turning into a mom haircut. Before I got it cut it was the longest it ever had been. Now I’m ready to grow it back out & it’s looking like I’ll have to wade through some mom haircuts to get it back where it was.

    • Jezebeelzebub

In-between hair is not the same as mom hair. In-between hair is just a fact of life- a hurdle that must be lept. In-between hair is not for the faint of heart, and I salute you.

    • Jessica

I found a really cute guide to growing out super short hair. But all the in between stages are going to look like a hot mess. We plan on trying to get pregnant soon, so at least my hair should grow pretty quickly lol.

    • MellyG

      OOooh, they’re both pretty!

    • Bethany Ramos

      You really are gorgeous! :)

    • Jessica

I wish I could remember my password to MySpace just so I rank you in my top 8. Thank you!

Ps I swear I uploaded them right, but disqus wanted me to look like a crazy.

  • shorty_RN

I’m totes rocking a brunette #11. My mom transformation must be complete now.

  • girlindisguise

I had that haircut before I had kids. Now, it’s long, perpetually tangled and usually in a ponytail/bun. And not the cute, Pinterest-styled bun, but the bun that is there to make sure I don’t get potatoes in my hair again.

    • MellyG

it sounds like we have the same hair – i don’t have kids yet. I feel like i don’t have an excuse

    • AP

I was just going to say, “I don’t get why moms have short hair, having it long enough to tie back in a bun while still wet is way faster than dealing with short hair.”

I don’t have kids either, but I have a sporty job so it’s OK.

  • Jen

Haha. I totally have a “mom bob” at the moment, but I’m in the process of growing my hair out long from what used to be a mohawk, so hopefully that makes it a bit more excusable. :P

  • mrs.pigglewiggle

Ha, I’ve come to the realization that I may not get to an actual salon to get my hair did until my raise finally comes through and I can afford the babysitting AND the haircut. So I am rocking the ultimate mom style; DIY. Did you know that there is a learning curve for cutting ones own bangs? I do now! Sweet unintended bonus is that now that my bangs are mid forehead length my office mates call me Betty Page:)

  • simoneutecht

I’m going to get my number 13 cleaned up on Sunday

  • Kaitlyn Catherine

So you really dislike asymmetrical bobs…got it. I’m not sure why it’s “mom” hair.

  • RW

Huh. I thought a mom cut was “anything that can be put up in a ponytail.” I used to have short, edgy and random rainbow hair – now if I can’t get it into a ponytail it’s too short, and my colours are restricted to natural darks (to hide the ridiculous amount of grey I have for 30) or reds that don’t require abusive bleach. I finally booked THE appointment – 18 months postpartum and finally had the time/energy to have wild hair again. Aaaaaand then I got pregnant again and it was so much worse than the last one. I dragged my sorry ass into my stylist asking him to work his magic with the reds (not bust out the magnificent peacock masterpiece we had planned) and a warning that if I couldn’t get it into a ponytail afterwards someone would get cut. My straight iron hasn’t been plugged in in nearly 3 months, and sadly, that likely won’t change for…. oh, the next year or so.

  • Kat

Mine is sort of 10, but longer and much, much messier.

  • Elisa Probert

I have mom hair. Hoping taking some of the length off will help with my headaches!

I just cut it yesterday…here it is today.

And here’s the ponytail I hacked off. Bye, long hair I was just starting to love. I’m going to do something weird like make some sort of hair jewelry for my hubby. Because I’m a weirdo like that.

    • Bethany Ramos

Wow, you look so cute!! That is A LOT of hair.

    • Elisa Probert

Yeah. It was to the middle of my back and oh-so-braidable.

Honestly, though, my only regret is that I couldn’t wait until I could get an appointment with my stylist friend. (headaches were making me miss a lot of work!) But, even his own mother is having to go un-dyed and unstyled because he’s an insanely popular stylist and booked like, two months out.
