Busy Mom’s Cooking Hacks: Super Simple Slow Cooker Recipes For ‘Cheatster’ Dinner

shutterstock_124991246

If you are celebrating Easter this year, I hate to break it to you, but you are so two thousand and late. Nowadays, all busy moms celebrate a little something called Cheatster™, which means that you use your crock pot on the sly to create amazingly delicious dishes that your family will think you spent hours slaving away on.

Hopefully, you have some kind of secret space in your kitchen where you can work your slow cooker magic. If you don’t, you’re probably going to have to drag your slow cooker out to the garage so you can pretend you’re using the oven for hours. Tell your family to go to sunrise service and get out of your face. When they come home, Cheatster dinner will be ready for all—emphasis on the cheat.

My mouth is watering just thinking about it. And the beauty of Cheatster crock pot cooking is that it really is so easy. I’ve made the task at hand even easier for you by breaking down your elaborate Easter meal into five separate dishes. Follow this awesome Cheatster menu and all of your annoying, stupid relatives will be eating out of your hand:

1. APPETIZER: Slow Cooker Brie With Pecans And Cranberries

You can start your Easter menu off with a bang with a super-easy-disguised-as-super-fancy-recipe. I always make brie for family gatherings and spend the rest of the day basking in the compliments.

2. MAIN DISH: Crock Pot Green Eggs And Ham

A perfect dish for the kiddies—or to freak out your extended family.

3. MAIN DISH: Easy Slow Cooker Maple Ham

And the pièce de résistance… Your Cheatster wouldn’t be complete without a mouth-wateringly delicious brown sugar maple ham in your crock pot. If you’ve got five hours to kill, you’ve got time to make this deeesh.

4. SIDE DISH: Slow Cooker Hash Brown Casserole Recipe

Trust me when I say that your delicious ham will be pathetic without this easy-peasy hash brown recipe.

5. DESSERT: Slow Cooker Carrot Cake

I’m no baker, but I know I can pull this off. I will be binge-eating this cake this Easter.

I love your column and I love most of these except those green eggs which are making me vom a li’l

    • Valerie

Totes. The green eggs are a no-go.

    • Robotic Socks

How do you color the egg green?

Let it mold up and then cook it? Kinda lost here.

    • Valerie

I would think a bit of green food coloring in the egg mixture before you put it in……

    • Valerie

Oh, and I thought of you this morning- this ridiculously good looking older guy in his mid-forties came in to meet with my boss and I Google stalked him and he played major league baseball for a while and has 2 MBA’s. And is freaking gorgeous. Older dudes are where its atttt.

    • Robotic Socks

Puahaha, I’m not that old. I think you me and Beth are in the same gen

    • Valerie

I know- we were just talking about my love for older dudes yesterday. Which is why I thought of you. Not because I think you are old. :-) I think I remember you saying once you are in your 30′s.

    • Valerie

I know- we were just talking about my love for older dudes yesterday. Which is why I thought of you. Not because I think you are old. :-) I think I remember you saying once you are in your 30′s.

    • Robotic Socks

      Yup.

Does your hubby know you got a thing for Sean Connery?

    • Valerie

Oh completely. There was a guy at our old gym who he called The Silver Fox- in incredible shape but probably 50ish or so. He knew I was obsessed with him and teased me relentlessly. :-)

And then I tease him for thinking he would have a chance with 20-year old chicks if he were still in the dating world. His 36 years would be super creeps by their standards and I never let him forget it. ;-)

    • Robotic Socks

36 yr olds have plenty of chances with 20′s chickys

      $$$

      ;P

    • Valerie

Didn’t work for me when I was 20. I thought any guy over 27 was old and gross.

    • http://Mommyish.com/ Eve Vawter

You guys are gross and need to get a room

    • Valerie

No, Socks is too young for me. I need a room with The Silver Fox.

    • Robotic Socks

Would you like to join us Eve?

    • Valerie

Yesss. Me, Eve, Socks and the Silver Fox.

Sounds like the title for a children’s book. Or a porn.

    • Robotic Socks

      um… ok, but I ain’t crossing swords

    • Bethany Ramos

      I <3 the 90s.

    • Valerie

      ..

  • Valerie

That stock photo chick has a serious fruits and veggie fetish- she is kissing, sniffing or squeezing them in every picture.

    • Bethany Ramos

      Hhahaha she’s delightfully creepy.

    • Robotic Socks

Yea, I dunno… The one from yesterday was pretty intriguing. This might tip the scales O_o

    • Valerie

      Who, the Peeps undies chick?

    • Robotic Socks

Oh yea, I forgot about her too!!!!

Man, who needs youporn when I have M’ish!

    • Valerie

The radio hosts I listen to every morning talk about YouPorn constantly. I’ve never looked. Is it like, you send in a picture of yourself and you get photoshopped into porn? Where does the “you” part come into play?

  • Valerie

    The brie sounds amaaaaaaazing.

  • http://Mommyish.com/ Eve Vawter

Oh this is not a crock pot thing but I make this cake constantly during the spring and summer and you must make it because it is ridic good http://articles.latimes.com/2009/may/27/food/la-fo-blueberryrec27a-2009may27

    • Bethany Ramos

      I WILL MAKE.

    • http://Mommyish.com/ Eve Vawter

do itttt. I know the recipe seems a bit fussy but one you make it is it sooo easy and it’s soooo good. Lemme know what ya think. You can totally use frozen berries too

    • Bethany Ramos

I will – and everyone will be impressed with me!

    • http://Mommyish.com/ Eve Vawter

and I will come eat it allll

  • Robotic Socks

That stock photo could only be more suggestive if they used a sausage

  • Jen

I’m a busy mom (lazy most days) and a food blogger. I use my blender like Mommyish uses a crock pot to create quick and deceptively easy meals. I have a recipe for roasted red pepper and sweet potato soup that would make Wolf Gang Puck weep, and its soooooo easy! Is there are way to submit it to your site? Thanks in advance if you have the time to answer : )

    • Bethany Ramos

That sounds awesome! Yes, please email me at bethany4goodhealth @ gmail.com. :)

    • Valerie

I wish I had swanky recipes so I could email you. :-(

    • Bethany Ramos

awwww email me a pic of your crockpot and your smiling face – lol!

    • Valerie

OMGGGG maybe I could become a creepy stock photo girl.
      #dreamsdocometrue

    • Bethany Ramos

      Hahhaha your life goal realized!

    • Valerie

Better work on my veggie sniffing skills.

  • Alene

That brie looks like something I would buy all the ingredients for and say I plan on bringing to easter, but then make and eat in one sitting while watching Dance Moms with a bottle of wine.

  • Maria Guido

Cake in a crockpot? You just blew my mind.

    • Bethany Ramos

      I lervvvv carrot cake too.
