Devastated Phantom Pregnancy Father Speaks Out About Imaginary Quintuplets

Barbara Bienvenue Phantom PregnancyThe man who was led to believe that he would soon be the father of quintuplets has spoken out about the moment he discovered his girlfriend Barbara Bienvenue wasn’t really pregnant. Paul Servat spoke with the QMI Agency and I cannot imagine how devastated this poor guy is, especially considering another news source is claiming that Barbara pulled this same stunt with another man in 2010. On Wednesday, when Barbara began complaining of stomach pains Paul took her to the hospital where staff told him they had no file for the pregnancy. A nurse finally took Servat aside to show him the results of blood tests. According to The Toronto Sun, Paul is devastated by the entire ordeal  and feels awful for all of the donations the couple has received:

“I’ll return all these things to people who sent them or give them (away),” Servat said.

“I’m a good person and I have nothing to do with these lies.”

I also have sympathy for Bienvenue, because she obviously has huge mental issues. According to the report, she believed so deeply in her phantom pregnancy that she had morning sickness and actually began lactating, in addition to gaining a lot of weight which helped in her belief (and getting her partner to believe) she was actually pregnant with five babies. According to the Daily Mail:

‘Even my parents, they were so looking forward to having grandchildren.’

As weeks passed Bienvenue told Servat she was expecting twins, then triplets, then quadruplets and finally the stunning news that there were five babies in her belly.

Bienvenue is now under psychiatric observation.

One thing I find totally odd about this case is that how Barbara kept Paul from attending any doctor’s visits or ultrasound appointments, because one would think that he would be totally interested n how the babies were growing. That part I really don’t understand. This case is such a mess, but I do feel bad for Barbara. I can’t imagine what would drive someone to invent a story like this, and it’s sort of easy to just say she was desperate for attention, but for all we know, maybe she had huge infertility issues and badly wanted a baby and this manifested in her creating such a huge fantasy for herself and the man she was involved with.

I feel sorry for that guy.

(and I’m not surprised that he didn’t attend ultrasounds and doctor’s appointments–I know women who didn’t want their partners at those appointments for various reasons (albeit, none to hide a non-existent pregnancy!), and it’s possible she deliberately ‘scheduled’ them during times when she knew it would inconvenience him to come. My own DH only accompanied me to the full body-scan, not because I didn’t want him there for the others, but he had to work and I figured most likely, it’d be him waiting for me to pee into a cup and then watching the doctor press on my belly, anyway.)

such a sad, bizarre story all around

Yes, my husband hardly came to any visits. With our first child, he had just started a new job and we didn’t want him missing too much time right off the bat and with our second, I was pretty seasoned and just didn’t feel the need for him to come.

I agree. With our son, my DH had to work. Since my schedule was different than his and I scheduled appointments at the most convenient times for me, he wasn’t able to come to practically any appointments. It happens.

What was the other news source that reported on her 2010 incident? If it was Le Journal de Montréal, QMI and JdM belong to the same company (Quebecor)

She needs professional help for sure, but what I want to know is how she managed to gain that much weight while still fooling herself that it was 5 babies. I think I might notice if I were eating enough to put on the fat equivalent of quintuplets. It’s an astounding feat of self-deception.

      • http://Mommyish.com/ Eve Vawter

It’s soooo bizarre. I cannot believe she did this previously too

      • CrazyFor Kate

Sometimes women with phantom pregnancies do gain a lot of weight with no discernable change in diet. The reasons are usually unknown.

As far as the doctor appointments my husband only attended one and that was the day we found out the gender. He really wanted to see the ultrasound. But other wise I am not even sure I told him specifically which days I had appointments. Most of those are such quick checks I didn’t see any reason in him missing work to go with me. Especially since my doctor was a hour away from my husband’s job. But I am surprised he didn’t get to go to at least one ultrasound.

So just how FAT do you have to be able to pull off a quintuplet lie?

On one note, I’m rather impressed her power of belief caused her to lactate. I couldn’t force lactation with pumps, herbs and meds over months and I actually had a baby. Now I know: I just didn’t believe hard enough!
I’ll never understand the human body.

Yeah, it is hard to imagine how she kept him from the doctors appts. Not because every guy is all that crazy-interested, but at some point I can only imagine my husband insisting on going to the doctor with me to discuss how a quintuplet pregnancy/delivery would go. It isn’t like this was a run of the mill pregnancy and especially since she kept adding babies after each ‘visit’. I feel bad for him, I can imagine the disappointment and embarrassment he must feel.

This is very disturbing and sad all the way around. And I am amazed at how legit pregnant she actually looks!

This was the problem with Henry VIII’s first wife, Catherine of Aragon. She had multiple false pregnancies, all the side effects and everything.

      Even her name sounds fake.

One can’t help but wonder why the woman’s boyfriend never asked or insisted for ultra sound images and how he came to be so bamboozled? One also wonders why the errant expectant mother played along so far with the scheme and how she duly never thought there would be no repercussions either….IT WAS HER SECOND TIME CAUGHT.

She might not have been lying…I mean she was lying, but phantom pregnancy is a real thing. She may have truly believed she was pregnant the entire time and therefore would not have been intentionally lying to her husband/boyfriend. A very close friend of mine had a phantom pregnancy as a teenager. It is crazy how the body can respond to the mind. She stopped having her period and started to get a big belly. I hope this woman gets the treatment she needs for her mental illness.

I know is some hospitals the dads are not aloud to be in the room. With my last my husband was only aloud to attend two of them Also some need appointments on a weekly base Mine where weekly at 20 week so it very possible The internet is also a good resource to get fake ultrasound photos

    • GTHSBB Momma

Other news stories report this woman’s family acknowledge she’s faked a twins pregnancy previously, as well as faking a cancer diagnosis. I think it’s a little generous to assume she had a phantom pregnancy. Seems far more likely she’s a twisted woman who abuses other people’s trust, love, and good nature. What she did to her boyfriend is dreadful.

WHY does anyone “feel bad” for this fat slob, Barbara Bienvenue, She’s: a liar, irrational, shrill, histrionic, bitter, crazy, obese, disgusting, catfishing slob of trailer trash.
