Twitter Is Here On Oscar Night To Remind Pregnant Ladies It’s Okay To Look Pregnant, Just Not Too Pregnant

There are some crazy beautiful pregnant ladies on the Oscars red carpet tonight. If you look up “glowing pregnant goddess” any of these women would suffice. You don’t have to take my word for it; there’s plenty of photographic evidence. What’s pretty disturbing though is that of the three most tweeted about pregnant women on the red carpet – Kerry Washington, Olivia Wilde and Elsa Pataky – the one that is the biggest is getting repeatedly insulted, while the other two are being praised for “barely looking pregnant.” So, it’s okay to look pregnant, just not too pregnant.

Elsa Pataky is carrying twins. Twitter thinks she’s too big and hates her dress.

Hello, gorgeous. What is wrong with this dress? Nothing, if you ask me. She looks incredible, and for the record she’s carrying twins. Twins, people. But apparently she should have worn some kind of burlap sack or something, because Twitter is offended by her pregnant style. I guess they don’t like imagining that she has skin under that dress or that there appears to be evidence that there are boobs under it as well.

The color of this gown is gorgeous. I guess they’re troubled that it’s hugging her pregnant belly or something? Maybe she should have found her a corset?

No need to tell a woman who is heavily pregnant with twins on the red carpet she looks good. Just remind her how huge she is.

 Well, this is just mean.

Um….Elsa Pataky looks amazing. That color is so perfect with her skin tone and she was the only woman with a pixie cut who had good hair. And I actually did not know she was pregnant with twins!

    • elle

I guess it’s more of a grown out pixie cut but I stand by it…all other short/pixie haired woman’s hair didn’t look as good as Elsas

  • LadyClodia

Olivia and Kerry look great tonight, but serious props to Elsa. She’s rocking that dress, and it is a gorgeous color. When I first saw Elsa and Chris, I didn’t even notice that Chris was wearing a purple tux (which he looks great in) because I couldn’t take my eyes off of her.

  • Kay_Sue

I have to be honest, I’m not digging the dress on Elsa. She looks gorgeous and the color is great, but the fit, to me, looks like the dress is too small. The way it pulls on the sides gives me that impression.

    • Justme

But she’s also a small woman carrying around a LOT of baby.

    • Kay_Sue

As was I, although not twins. Doesn’t mean you have to endure dresses that don’t fit, especially not with the number of blockbusters her husband has under his belt… ;)

    • Allyson_et_al

Ok, now I’m thinking about blockbusters and under Chris Hemsworth’s belt, and I think I just got the vapors.

    • Kay_Sue

You can borrow my smelling salts. Every proper Southern lady must have them on hand at all times. *passes smelling salts*

    • Sara610

Me too. I’m five feet tall, and my daughter was a big baby–I got HUGE at the end of my pregnancy, and it was all belly.

    • Kay_Sue

Both of mine were all belly, but my younger son…well, I’m 5′ 2″, and about 105 usually. He was 10 lbs 8.9 oz. There were days I felt like he had managed to crack my ribs like in all the horror stories you hear…I really feel for this woman, because being hugely pregnant is bad enough without having to deal with clothes that don’t fit. It doesn’t even look comfortable to me…

    • Valerie

She’s still stunning but the fit could have been better, for sure.

    • Kay_Sue

She could probably be photographed wearing a wet paper bag while giving actively giving birth and still look absolutely amazing. #PayMeNoMind #IAmJustJealousThatIAmNotHavingChrisHemsworthsTwins

    • EX

I agree. She’s gorgeous but the cut just isn’t very flattering. It kind of turns her boobs and belly into one big lump rather than showing off her boobs and/or belly. That said, these comments on twitter are pretty obnoxious.

    • Kay_Sue

It’s sad to say, but whenever I see a post featuring Twitter screencaps, I automatically assume it’s going to be obnoxious.

That way, if it isn’t obnoxious, I’m pleasantly surprised and tickled pink, and if it is obnoxious, my faith in humanity remains mostly intact, or at least, at the same levels it was before reading it.

    • Courtney Lynn

    • Bunny Lucia

I agree with you so much! That dress is just not my idea of a good looking dress.

She looks absolutely fabulous, but her dress looks like a flashy burlap sack with that awkward cut to it. But whatever.

    • Kay_Sue

Yeah, to me it read as she looked fab in spite of the dress, when I’d expect the dress to bolster her natural fab effect.

    • Oz

They’ve cinched it right under her belly. It’s clinging to her in all the wrong ways, making her look bigger and heavier. Her breasts aren’t defined and look like they’re lying really flat… it’s a bit odd. Most pregnant ladies go for the cinch-under-the-bust drape look, and while I think this was an attempt at being daring, it didn’t really work.

But then, who the hell cares? Those are Chris Hemsworth’s babies in there. She wins.

    • Elizabeth Licata

Me neither. The color is gorgeous and her hair and makeup are great, but the dress itself is cut oddly, and the embellishment is too one-note and all-over, so the effect is kind of boring. It’s less “let’s make a crazy, sparkly gown” and more “I’m out of ideas, but I have a glitter cannon.”
She looks great, I just think it’s an ugly dress.

    • Kay_Sue

Real question here: Where can *I* find a glitter cannon??

    • JLH1986

      Walmart. They have everything.

    • Elizabeth Licata

A glitter cannon would be the best revenge. Roommate eats your cookies? Glitter cannon her room. Glitter goes nowhere. She will sparkle until she is dead.

    • Jessie

There is a reason they call it the herpes of craft supplies. Once it’s in/on there, you are NEVER getting it out/off.

    • Kay_Sue

Sadly enough, the reason that I would want one is to glitter cannon the shit out of my partner’s car the next time he pisses me off…It would be the absolute best revenge.

    • Natasha B

I’m with Kay. The dress, honestly, is terrible. The color is pretty, her face and hair are lovely, but the cut is awful. We all watch the Oscars for the fashion….this was a fashion fail.

    • Ddaisy

I also don’t like it, just because I would’ve made the armhole a lot smaller. It has nothing to do with her being pregnant–giant armpits are not flattering on anyone!

    • Fondue

Yes! It’s the armholes that make this dress a “fail” in my opinion. Who looked at her and thought, “Do you know what this beautiful woman needs in a dress? Armpit and sideboob!” Somebody should have their stylist card revoked.

    • radicalhw

The dress is just not working for her, twins or no twins. Her stylist should be mocked, not her fetuses.

    • Kay_Sue

I agree wholeheartedly. Her stylist should be mocked mercilessly…

    • Sara610

I’ll go a little further–I think this dress is awful. The color is beautiful on her, but it just doesn’t fit. There are always going to be assholes on Twitter, though, and it’s a shame people have to be so rude. The issue isn’t that she’s hugely carrying twins, it’s that she chose a poorly-fitting dress.

    • Kay_Sue

Yeah, I agree. Everything else about her looks gorgeous, and hell, can I be honest? I think looking so great and carrying that much baby is something she should be strutting…just in a dress that fits.

    • Tinyfaeri

I agree, she’s beautiful and glowy and wonderful, and the color was beautiful, but the fit was terrible. Everyone mocking her for her size can take a long walk off a short pier, but her stylist did her a disservice.

    • rrlo

      Agreed. Beautiful woman. Awful dress.

  • whiteroses

Frankly- I give Elsa Pataky massive props for even putting on makeup, never mind doing all that other stuff. When I was seven months pregnant I could barely wash my own hair. She looks AMAZING. You rock, Elsa. Haters be hatin’.

    • rrlo

I am 7 months pregnant. I am basically a hermit. Going outdoors is overrated.

    • whiteroses

      I agree completely.

  • Justme

Let’s be honest…by the end of my pregnancy, I was lucky if I got out of the house in anything other than my husband’s sweatpants and hoodie. I have to give each of these women major kudos. All I could think while watching them was, “dear Lord, they must be uncomfortable.” And they don’t even get a glass of champagne at the after party for their troubles.

  • Erica

I think Elsa’s problem is just that they should have cinched it under the bust as well. As is it looks like she just has giant boobs. It would be much more attractive if it were defined all the way around.

  • EmmaFromÉire

Nah that dress is just hideous. It doesn’t fit well, and i’m really not loving the under bump band. Honestly the best I think anyone has ever appeared in a gown while pregnant is Natalie Portman

  • Valerie

Why does Olivia Wilde always seem so smug? In any event, I think they all look lovely. Anything but yoga pants was high style for me while pregnant so props to all of them.

    • EX

To be honest, if I looked like Olivia Wilde, you wouldn’t be able to wipe the smug look off my face.

    • Valerie

I think I feel this way because of how obnoxious she and Jason Sudeikis have been about talking about their sex life in the press. Like yes, we get it. You are gorgeous and are getting laid. Yawn.

  • guest

Elsa looks amazing. And she’s got Chris Hemsworth on her arm. I think she wins the night. To be honest, I’m not as impressed with Kerry Washington’s dress. Don’t get me wrong, she looks incredible and is glowing, and seriously, she’s beautiful, but I’m just not excited about the dress. Olivia Wilde is lovely, but played it too safe for my taste. Elsa all the way :)

    • JLH1986

I wasn’t impressed with Kerry’s dress, it *to me* looks like a purple sack. At least Elsa tried something besides a sack. Though I’m not a fan of the cut. the color and her hair and make up were spot on. I think the band under the bump is what makes the dress “meh” for me. But I’m weird. I also loved Jennifer Lawrence’s dress and she apparently bombed too.

    • Courtney Lynn

I really didn’t like Kerry’s dress. She was gorgeous, though.

  • brebay

I don’t think this is about her being huge, it’s about a truly horrid dress, and that’s what the Oscars are all about, no? Should they omit her from fashion critique just because she’s pregnant? I think that would be worse. This was a fashion diss, one of many, not a big-prego diss.

  • BlaineMcgruder

Oscar does not ignore the Pregnant Ladies if any woman celebrity has pregnant even they can came here in the Oscar awards.

  • Molly

Um, that dress is hideous on her and it doesn’t fit. It was probably fitted and adjusted before she was this big and they under estimated how large the baby would grow by the time the Oscar’s rolled around.

That’s one reason why flowing loose dresses like Natalie Portman’s from a year or two ago work best. They can be measured and fitted ahead of time without having to worry about how much the baby/mother to be’s stomach will grow in the mean time.

  • Muggle

I honestly think the dress would have looked a LOT better if it was cinched under the bust instead of the belly. Also, it does look pretty small. And there is some sideboob going on and… no bra? Am I really not seeing a bra or any hint of one? yikes, that seems like it would be extremely uncomfortable while pregnant.

But I agree that the criticism isn’t really about the dress, but her huge pregnant body. Jesus, women really can’t win, can they? You can’t have a belly that’s TOO big nor one that’s too small. Jesus.

  • jendra_berri

No, Elsa’s dress is just terrible. Pregnancy doesn’t mean you suddenly look great in anything and that if someone hates your outfit they’d prefer you didn’t look pregnant.

Her boobs are not apparent, they just melt into the bump, which appears to be sagging due to the cinch underneath. It does nothing for her. Empire waists are an excellent choice, or something that form fits the bump and shows off the plethora of curves. Turning the whole torso into a single drooping melon is just criminal. Her stylist needs to go back to the drawing board.

Oh, and side boob during pregnancy… eh. It’s not attractive most of the time, but a pregnant woman’s body already has a lot of points of interest without throwing that in. It’s just a bad dress.

    • pixie

The whole no bra thing (I don’t see any hint of a bra from the side-view at least) doesn’t help with the whole boobs-melting-into-bump thing.

She’s a gorgeous woman, the dress is a nice colour, and the twitter comments were harsh, but I agree the dress’ style/fit/waistline was probably not the best choice.

  • Kelly

Ew, I think the dress is ugly as hell and it has nothing to do with her being pregnant. It also looks incredibly uncomfortable.

  • CW

I love the color of Elsa’s dress, but she should’ve worn something flowy and goddess-like.

  • Melissa

Catherine Zeta Jones was like days away from giving birth when she won her Oscar, and she looked gorgeous. This is just not a good dress for a pregnant lady. Not saying you can’t do form fitting or that you only have to do loose and flowing, but this dress looks like its pulling her boobs and her stomach down to the ground. Not a criticism of her size, it’s just sad looking.

  • Jessie

Yeeeah, I’m gonna have to go with the majority on this one: That dress is a hot mess, save for the color. The color is about the only thing they got right. Otherwise, it kind of looks like a sheer nightgown with an elastic waist band.
She is a gorgeous woman, and fuck anyone who is criticizing her size because TINY WOMAN WITH TWINS MOTHER-EFFERS, but they could have found something SO much better than that thing, I’m sure. I’ve seen non-celeb women carrying twins wearing gowns that were much more flattering.

These Twitter people are asshats though. I’d like to see any of them even THINK about feeling up to attending a highly publicized gala-type event while heavily pregnant, let alone heavily pregnant with twins.

    • Guest

This was exactly my thoughts while reading the article. Those tweets aren’t criticizing her, they’re criticizing the dress. She looks lovely and beautiful and healthy no matter her size, but that dress is a disaster. Sure the colour and fabric are nice. But there is no tailoring whatsoever. It looks like she just cut holes in a sack for her arm and head and then tied it with a drawstring around her waist. Just because she’d pregnant doesn’t mean she has to wear a tent.
And that waistline itself is dreadful. It goes under her belly and over her rump which is a fashion no no. It looks sloppy and poorly thought out and not made to fit anyone’s measurements. It’s like one of those hideous one size fits all deals.

  • guest

It looks like the dress starts at the shoulders and ends at her crotch with no definition in between. Otherwise she is gorgeous and married to Chris Hemsworth so everyone else can suck it.

  • Courtney Lynn

Honestly, I don’t like the dress. It has nothing to do with her being pregnant because I LOVE seeing pregnant women, especially the giant bellies like I had with my son (took me forever to show with my daughter and I just looked fat most of the time). It has everything to do with the cut being horrible. It looks like they had just enough fabric and had to stretch a little. The color is great but the design and cut is terrible.
