9 Baby Names For Crazy Cat Ladies

103307329 Hana Graham suffers from borderline personality disorder. She’s working with her team of medical professionals to plan a baby and we asked her to write about the process.

Ladies, you don’t need to drop your crazy cat lady swag when you pop out a baby. Let me help you. I’ve compiled a small list of (mostly) subtle and acceptable baby names whose meanings and/or origins have a special cat person shine to them. So without further ado, here are some crazy cat lady baby names that are totally acceptable to give to a child. Hooray!

1.Ari or Leo

(Image:wikipedia)

(Image:wikipedia)

Let’s start off with what are probably the least crazy names on this list. Both mean “lion”, and they’re both super cute. Ari can be lengthened or shortened to Ariel, Ariella, whatever you want. Leo is pretty versatile as well. And lions are big cats. It works for me!

2.Catarina (Cat for short, obvs)

(Image: wikipedia)

This name is super cool because Catarina the name of Edgar Allen Poe‘s cat. So it’s a sneaky one. Except for the obvious nickname of “Cat”. Also, Poe is super goth and awesome.

Or just go with Cat – but you have to name your next cat “Child.”

Alternate options: Fleshbaby vs. Furbaby. These don’t really fit the list well though. That’s like, crazy cat lady names that are totally obviously crazy cat lady names, and will probably get your kids taken away by CPS. And your cats taken away too. Yeah, forget this suggestion.

3. Kitty

I don’t recommend this because this is all I see when I hear that name. But if you, for some reason, have never seen Arrested Development, go for it. You should probably go rent the entire box set of Arrested Development first, though, before you decide, and before you ever try to be friends with me. You just gotta SAY GOODBYE TO THESE, MICHAEL.

4. Bartholomew

Sure, you could call him Bart for short, but you could also call him…mew. Meeeew! Like a kitten. Mew mew mew!

5. Dinah

(Image: tumblr)

(Image: tumblr)

This is my favorite kitty name ever because I’m completely obsessed with everything related to Alice in Wonderland ever, and my husband won’t let me name any kids Cheshire or even Alice. I tried to get him to go for Dinah as a name for our newest kitten but he wouldn’t bite. So someone out there, please name your daughter Dinah for me.

Starvo McBiteyface makes me DIEEEEEEE. I just can’t stop laughing. We also liked Leo, but we couldn’t “steal” it from my SIL, who ended up with girls. #howdareshe

      Hahahahaha

    • Jallun-Keatres

Hahaha my cousins named my grandparents’ new cat “Clawdia Eileen” because she scratched one of them the first time they met (Clawed ya!) and she fell asleep sitting up or something (I lean). They named their other cat Aurora Alice because she had a lot of orange in her fur (they were grey tabbies like Eenie in my profile pic) and it looked like the Aurora Borealis I guess…

      LOL at Starvo McBiteyface XD

    • Bethany Ramos

Omfg lolling!!!! Also, Paw-line for a Dog or Cat. Hahahah

  • http://www.twitter.com/ohladyjayne allisonjayne

I remember being upset in high school when I found out that my mom almost named me “Katherine” because I wanted my nickname to be Kat like all the cool punk and goth girls.

Also, semi-related, my kid has a “dog’s name” apparently.

    • http://ultimatemamacat.tumblr.com/ Hana Graham

Unless your kid is named Fido I would slap whoever said that!

    • http://www.twitter.com/ohladyjayne allisonjayne

Basically, I can’t find anything with my kid’s name on it that isn’t intended for dogs. It’s not Fido, thankfully. Think along the lines of ‘Bailey’.

    • Karen Milton

My husband is a Toby, which is usually a dog’s name. The off-leash dog park is very confusing for him with people hollering his name from right and left.

    • Ptownsteveschick

My sister’s name is Bailey, between people thinking she is a man with that as a last name (we have a male first name for a last name) or people thinking she has a dog’s name, I would have changed it if it were me by now lol.

    • http://www.twitter.com/ohladyjayne allisonjayne

I have a man’s first name for a last name as well. It has caused some confusion but it clears up pretty easily, and I like it anyway.

    • Bethany Ramos

      Molly? Chloe?

    • Jallun-Keatres

My cousin used to have a cat named Chloe lol

    • Bethany Ramos

I like those names, and they’ve been ruined!

    • Jallun-Keatres

I knew MK had a “dog’s name” but I named her that anyway because of… oh well if you want the YT link to the vlog I’ll post it for a few hours…

    • Bethany Ramos

      Yes, please!

tell me when you get it so I can take it down haha

    • Bethany Ramos

Just watched it – what a good story! And you and your baby (noises) are so cute, thanks for posting! Also, I’ve always loved that name too. :)

    • Jallun-Keatres

Thanks! :-) I started vlogging again, now that I have a niche to reside in, and there’s some funny stuff in there. I’m hoping as I do it more I won’t be so long winded!

    • jane

Oh, I want to guess – Ralph? Benji? Fifi? Spot? Inquiring minds want to know!

    • http://www.twitter.com/ohladyjayne allisonjayne

More like “Bailey”. I have a friend named Bailey who told me she grew up with lots of ‘special bandanas’ with her name on it.

    • Jallun-Keatres

It’s ok- Mini Keatres has a “dog name” too! In fact, once time at work someone was referring to her two dogs (male and female) and they had the same names as our #1′s for boy or girl XD

    • Ptownsteveschick

I was in middle school when I realized if my mom had given me an A middle name, my initials would spell CAT. I’m still not over how she could miss that opportunity.

  • Mystik Spiral

Cats and Arrested Development… two of my favorite things EVAR!!

“It all makes sense now. Dad’s in Reno, Kitty’s in Reno, Dad’s in Kitty, and Dad’s a Blue Man.”

    • http://ultimatemamacat.tumblr.com/ Hana Graham

      YEEEEEEEEEES!

  • Jallun-Keatres

I almost slipped up and called Mini Keatres Eenie on several occasions, since Eenie had so freshly left our family. I was worried I wouldn’t know how to talk to my newborn but it was just like talking to my cat…

(Yes, Eenie is the headlight-eyed cat in my profile pic!)

    • http://ultimatemamacat.tumblr.com/ Hana Graham

Aww, I’m sorry for you loss :( Eenie is adorable!

  • Beebop

Darn, and Cheekyboots McNeedleclaws was top of my list :-(

My husband and I really want one of our (potential, future) son’s middle names to be Bear. If Bear Grylls can have it why can’t we? (I realise that wasn’t his given name, but still). We are both in love with it but I do worry about what the family would say…

    • Jallun-Keatres

      It’s his legal name now!

    • http://ultimatemamacat.tumblr.com/ Hana Graham

Cheekyboots apologizes for this. I’m kidding, she’s laughing maniacally from the top of her throne.

  • G.E. Phillips

I love names. I love cats. And I think I love you, Hana.

I am planning to get a boy kitten next year and naming him Oliver. It goes well with my human son’s name AND my female kitty-cat’s name. Because, you know, sib-set.

    • http://ultimatemamacat.tumblr.com/ Hana Graham

I think I love you back. And I loooove sib set names but my husband would never allow it. Curses.

    • FormerlyKnownAsWendy

I think I still know most of the lyrics to “Why Should I Worry?” from Oliver and Company. I used to rewind that shit and dance around :)

    • Sarah

My cat’s name is Oliver (or Ollie, or Fat Boy, both of which are accepted nicknames)!!! We are so twins.

  • ILoveJellybeans

    Cute kitties!
My 2 year old is named Katrina. So thats sort of cat related.
I am only a bit of a crazy cat lady though.

    • http://ultimatemamacat.tumblr.com/ Hana Graham

      Thank you! Cute name!! :)

  • Crusty Socks

    So… Pussy isn’t a good choice?

    • http://ultimatemamacat.tumblr.com/ Hana Graham

      Deeeeefinitely not, haha.

  • Karen Milton

My kids’ names are looking pretty darn boring right now.

    • http://ultimatemamacat.tumblr.com/ Hana Graham

The next one shall be Starvo McBiteyface Jr.

  • LiteBrite

Actually, I don’t think it matters what you name your cats or your kids, because it you’re like me you wind up calling them by the wrong names anyways. I’m constantly calling the boy by the names of the cats and vice-versa.

And the crazy cat lady from “The Simpsons” is one of my fave characters on that show.

    • http://ultimatemamacat.tumblr.com/ Hana Graham

Ohhh I can totally see this happening.

Yeah, about 30 people have posted pictures of her to my page since I bought the pram.

  • Lackadaisical

I suppose Gobbolino would be too obvious, but I recommend reading that book to any future children. Personally I would also add Meg to the list. I know that Meg is the witch and Mog is the cat but because of the number of Meg & Mog books I read as a kid I will always do a word association of mog and therefore cat when I hear Meg. Is Tabitha (tabby and Beatrix Potter cat character all rolled into one) too obvious?

    • http://ultimatemamacat.tumblr.com/ Hana Graham

Yes yes yes! I’m actually thinking I need to write a book about planning a baby when you have cats and how to do introductions and all because I can’t freaking FIND any. Tabitha and Tom are totally awesome options. I LOVE the name Tabitha!

    • Lackadaisical

A Cat Ladies Guide To Hairless Bipedal Kittens sounds like a brilliant subject for a book (although you will obviously have a better title in mind). Alas, human young are stupid and utterly fail at the kitty litter tray long after a sensible cat has mastered it so advice to other cat ladies sounds a good idea.

No idea on the cat and baby thing personally because I am a *cough* filthy dog person *cough* but our dogs never had a problem with new babies (although one sulked at me for a long time). I am really no expert but from what I gather from friends who had cats before kids it wasn’t as difficult or scary as they thought it would be. The cats even came to dote on the kids by the time they could toddle and put up with toddler behaviour that they would never, ever put up with in adult humans.

    • jane

I am not a cat person at all, but I would totes buy A Cat Lady’s Guide to Hairless Bipedal Kittens for every pregnant person I ever met.

    • http://ultimatemamacat.tumblr.com/ Hana Graham

I might actually need to use that title.

    • Lackadaisical

      You are welcome to it

    • Lackadaisical

While I am sure the book would contain a lot of useful information about things like introducing babies to cats and ensuring they get on or dispelling myths about cats and pregnancy dangers I would like to imagine something like “You may think that mother cats look at you with disdain because your new baby isn’t kitty litter box trained yet and is awful at catching mice. This is not true. The mother cat looks at you with disdain because she is a cat and you are a mere human. Other than a lack of being feline, you and your child are doing fine”.

Dogs and babies works very differently. For the most part my mutt thinks I am the bestest mum ever (because I am her human and so the bestest at everything). However during my first pregnancy the dog before her used to bring me part of her dinner and drop it at my feet to take care of me and current mutt will form a doggy sheild between me and the kids if I tickle them.

    • MellyG

That is the most adorable thing ever!

    • MellyG

I would read that book. And i love the title A Cat Ladie’s guide to hairless bipedal kittens!

  • Sara

I’ve been waiting for y’all to bring up cats! I just got a new kitten that i have dubbed Athena and she is sososososo cute!

    • http://ultimatemamacat.tumblr.com/ Hana Graham

I have written about my cats before >_> And their pram <_< Athena is such a cute name!

    • Sara

I didn’t know how to broach the topic! And I would get her a pram if she wouldn’t eat me for putting her in lol. Your cats are so cute! This is the adorable Athena!

    • http://ultimatemamacat.tumblr.com/ Hana Graham

OMG ALL THE KISSES KISS THE BELLY

    • carosaurusrex

Oh the baby!!!! She looks like my cat Darth Meow when she was little.

    • Sara

Se’s just about seven weeks old!

    • MellyG

Aw i love her! My Athena was white. They’d make a good matching set :)

  • Rachel Sea

True story: Only person I’ve ever known who called herself “Kitty” once flashed her bare snatch at a group of 40+ men and women, trying to get someone to “help her with her garters.”

    • http://ultimatemamacat.tumblr.com/ Hana Graham

      “UP HERE, MICHAEL.”

  • AP

    Tybalt! From Romeo and Juliette.

    I’m a nerd…

    • http://ultimatemamacat.tumblr.com/ Hana Graham

      Oooo I like that one!

  • Ptownsteveschick

Don’t get a bunch of pets as a teenager because your maternal feelings make you want to love and care for something, then don’t name them all your favorite baby names because then you can never use them on your human child and then you will be sad, or you can use them anyway and your whole family can make fun of you. I’m just sharing this info for a friend ;)

    • http://ultimatemamacat.tumblr.com/ Hana Graham

I actually did that when I had rats as a teenager but luckily my taste in baby names has changed!

  • Elisa Probert

Starvo McBiteyFace is the best name in the history of EVER.

My cat’s name is Sasha. I thought it was a female but as it turns out, Sasha was a very late-blooming male cat. No balls ever showed up, took “her” in to get spayed and they said “Umm, yeah, we’re neutering instead.” Fortunately Sasha is also a boy’s name in Russian, so that works. He’s a rather effeminate cat.

I know a woman who named her baby after her first dog. And she made up a spelling for a fairly common name that makes me stabby.

    • http://ultimatemamacat.tumblr.com/ Hana Graham

Ohhh the yoo-nique spellings are the woooorst.

    • Elisa Probert

This one is “Lillian” but spelled Lyleun. It makes my brain bleed.

I refer to Sasha as my Sasha-bear since he’s a big fluffy fluff-butt teddy bear cat. Behold the floof!

      https://scontent-a-sea.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/t31/1275391_635644046476042_501951108_o.jpg

He steals my yarn and my fleece I’m spinning. Such a pain.

    • MellyG

my cousin named her cat Priscilla, and then found out the cat was a boy. He’s now in grandma’s custody (and by extension, trying to befriend my furry babies) and he’s called “Cil” to make him a bit more masculine, lol

  • MellyG

What if you’re a crazy cat lady that’s ALSO a music nerd, and thus have already named your cats after rock stars, so have nothing left to name your kids :-P
