A Parent’s Christmas Morning, In GIFs

I love being a parent and entertaining family on Christmas day – I really do. But you can’t help but be a little exhausted and overwhelmed when you have a house full of relatives and kids hyped up on joy, donuts and new toys.

I should really just post a shot of how my living room looks right now – to make you all feel better about your situation. Not quite sure why I spend days cleaning before Christmas, when 10 minutes after everyone starts tearing into their gifts it’s a total shit-show. Wait – I know why I do it – because if I didn’t, my mother would give me the “I can’t believe you didn’t clean your house before your guests arrived” look that still drives me crazy – even though I am a grown-ass woman.

Regardless of the fact that my house is a nightmare right now, it was a fun morning. Here’s an illustration of our morning – in Gifs.

Pretend you can’t hear them.

Okay, okay we’re up.

We’re totally raising spoiled brats.

Oh, I love it!

Oh look – he’s playing with the box more than his actual toy.

Wait – we have to make them breakfast, too?

I feel like we should be able to take the day off parenting.

Do we have anything stronger than orange juice?

I’m pretty sure my mom hates her gifts.

We’re supposed to assemble all this shit NOW?

I can’t believe the wrapping paper situation in here.

I need a nap.

Haha I mentioned before that we got my toddler an epic power wheels, and he kinda hates it. He’s been crying every time we make him ride it…

My ten year old daughter is somewhat terrified to catch the Flutteryby Fairy she so desperately wanted. So each time it flies up it pretty much crashes. Yeah, it’s gonna last forever. :)

This article is completely accurate. Which is why I rolled my eyes and, after they were all started playing with toys, I went back to Mommyish.

      Yup!!

I don’t know. My kid’s running a massive fever and crying a lot :X So my Christmas has been mostly a game of “pass the puker.”

Oh Gawd. Those days are only good if they’re fake or greatly exaggerated and keep you from having to travel to the in-laws. Not fun being real sick on Christmas!

This just described my entire day. Our7YO didn’t get to sleep until after 2 AM. And then was up at eight. Then spent the entire day having a variety of meltdowns…

I woke up at 6 in the morning hearing my five year old singing along with carols in her sister’s room (they’re bunking together this week). It was adorable.
Then I proceeded to spend the next two hours trying to placate the over-excited kids until we could wake grandma or grandpa up. And the next six hours stepping on small parts. Where’s the aching feet gif?

The GIF is so very superb and awesome in the day of Christmas.

We didn’t get home Xmas Eve until 11 p.m., and the boy was up at 6 a.m. Unfortunately, we were not and made him play in his room until we finally got tired of him bugging us about opening gifts. Everything was fine until about 4 p.m. when he was clearly overtired and having minor meltdowns over the stupidest little thing. Yeah, he went to bed early. Then DH and I watched “Blue Velvet.” :)

We were out late at the family party on Xmas Eve and if there’s anything good about my kids, it’s that they are sleepers, once asleep of course. I had to wake them at 930.
