TGI Friday Open Thread: Black Friday Shopping/Eating Leftovers Palooza

5988-062412You guys WHAT is going on? You may have noticed I haven’t been around much this week, and that’s because I sort of took the week off, but spent a lot of time answering emails and editing stuff. I also cleaned a TON and hopefully made a decent Thanksgiving dinner. And drank a lot. Hopefully I am drunk still. Why do I say hopefully? Because I am writing this Tuesday night because I am (again hopefully) hanging out with my family and eating leftovers! It’s like I am writing you from the future!

Your job is to tell me everything! I need to know what you made and ate and if anyone annoyed you and if any babies ate people food for the first time.

And for you people who got up in the middle of the night today to go shopping I need to hear all your tales of bargains and horror stories about mean shoppers and if you scored any amazing deals.

I will be trying to do some Black Friday shopping online and I will tell you guys if I find anything decent. I’m sure Amazon has some good stuff and I should find my kid some toys. My older boys want boring stuff like video games. Is there anything special you are searching for?

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and pour some nog or whatever and let’s play Christmas music and shop online or not shop and just eat leftover stuffing. I am all about that life. Also, in case you were wondering, my favorite Christmas song is “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” but it always makes me cry. So what is your favorite?

Tell me everything!

I got some hipster baby/kid clothes for my friends kids over at littlehipsqueaks.com, because I am a sucker for a dress printed with mint ice cream. And some good presents for my mom and sister on ASOS, too!

      Yayy here’s my novel:

So if you have been following I said “Hahahahahah fuck that” to spending Thanksgiving with my father and his family and I am SO happy I did, my BIL is being CREEPY, I mean CREEPY and so I made sure I couldn’t see any of his CREEPY status updates about my sister anymore and went on with my life.

I just got my money so I bought all the things that I had on Etsy for friends and family, now all I need is to grab the liquor and my nephew’s sweater (Picture attached) and I am DONE.

So we had our first Gluten free Thanksgiving and it was OFF THE FREAKING CHAIN. It was great, everything tasted amazing (Except the turkey came out really gamey, I was not a fan of the turkey) and I took about a mile walk afterwards so I didn’t feel like a total lardo, I took care of crunch time instead of my mother and now I feel confidently like I can make a thanksgiving meal next year, which may or may not come in handy.

Then my friend and I went Black Friday shopping and I didn’t buy a single thing on sale. Because I’m AMAZING.

Now I’m off to write my scientific research paper about how I recorded all my friend’s heights and weights and drinking habits before getting them tipsy and seeing what their alcohol threshold was.

      • Cee

        Creepy how?

Now I want to be your friend so you can get me tipsy “for science.”

      • Emmali Lucia

He started posting on facebook every day about his “Hot/sexy pregnant wife.” And I mean, I get it, pregnancy is beautiful and it’s great that he’s so attracted to my sister with her changing body, but it just got weird, he never called her by anything other than “My wife.” And he never said “Pretty” or “beautiful.” It was always “sexy” or “hot” and he always mentioned that she was pregnant. The first day it was sweet, by day four I became convinced that he’s a serial killer.

I always hate posting about my family because I’m so paranoid they’re going to find my comments and start a bunch of shit .

      • Megan Zander

I love this sweater! Where is it from?

      • Emmali Lucia

Janie and Jack. They’re not horribly cheap but they have the most adorable clothing.

I made beef wellington, it’s my “Hell yeah let’s be fancy” dish. There are no leftovers now (Spouse guy looted the fridge while I was in bed), except for my post-thanksgiving hangover. I’m contemplating just getting re-drunk and making this future-me’s problem, it’s more annoying than anything.

Spouse-guy also talked to his parents on the phone and no one mentioned the liberal apocalypse or teh gayz, so it was a good phone call.

Technically, I’m working black friday right now. Doing 5$ sketches for anyone with a paypal account, and I’ve probably done thirty today.

      • Cee

What IS a wellington? Whats in it? Well, aside from beef. Do you make it with a twist or anything?

What kind of sketches do you do?

      • Tea

It’s a tenderloin with pate (I didn’t use pate, I used a mushroom blend) then wrapped in puff pastry. Then you bake it until it’s rare to medium-rare.

        Animals, mostly and storybook illustration.

      • EmmaFromÉire

I follow your facebook page, i absolutely adore all of the paintings that you post, they’re absolutely fantastic.

      • Tea

        Ahh, thank you kindly!

      • Cee

I had to look up pate, lol. It looks good, and mushroom blend sounds pretty good.

Hah! I love your drawing! Well done!

      • Tea

I draw things like this sad chinchilla.

    • Cee

I learned to make stuffing and spent most of my time eating, chopping and shopping. Old Navy and GAP had 50% off so I took advantage. No need to fight anyone over anything when all of it is online. It was all for my girlfriend and I. We both need new work wardrobe. We will shop for the others once we figure out what they want and who were shopping for since some are not to kind to us being a couple, why spend the money?

My niece DID get to taste grown up food for the first time and she seemed so delighted by it and it was quite cute. I was commended for being a good baby soother and aunt :).
All in all, Thanksgiving with the in laws went well.

Tomorrow were having a little brunch before we fly back home. Honestly, these trips tempt me to stay in the East plainly on the less “ew lesbians” related drama I get.

But we land in Vegas sooo..there is that before I go back to crying at my new sad job and to my bigoted fam.

My favorite song is Bing Crosby and David Bowie’s “Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth”

      • Megan Zander

You could not spend the money on gifts for those family members… Or you could make a donation in thier name to the Trevor Project or GLAAD and enjoy watching them open the card. Too passive aggressive?

      • Cee

lol. I doubt they’d understand the concept of that

    • AP

My fancy chef-brother-in-law spearheaded most of the Thanksgiving cooking, which was great. Except he’s a messy cook- he managed to get bloody raw turkey juice inside my oven mits, dip his raw-egg covered fingers into my bulk sugar bin (I put that in my coffee!), and all my cabinets are slick with butter. I have to bleach the whole damned kitchen this afternoon.

I don’t do Black Friday shopping, but I do have to run a few walking errands that take me directly past some stores, I might stop in.

      • Justme

That would really piss me off. I don’t care how good the food is – don’t screw around in my kitchen.

    • NicknamesAreDull

My husband was supposed to get home on Wednesday, but the government decided that wasn’t going to happen. He told me he’d be home on Monday. So, I started to get stuff ready for Thanksgiving, because we were having people over and I didn’t want my daughter to think I was sad. I was getting the smoker ready (I bought all the stuff, didn’t want it to go to waste) and I heard the door open. I thought it was a friend of ours coming over to help. He got to come home, and he surprised me! So, because of that we had the best Thanksgiving, ever.

We were supposed to go to LegoLand, but we’re all exhausted and the weather is gross, so I went to RedBox and got a bunch of movies. No shopping, the crowds are too much.

    • Justme

I hosted Thanksgiving and it was fine…except for the constant smothering of my child that my in-laws always do. Makes me anxious and annoyed…and was kind of rude to my own parents. But luckily, my mother is relatively sane and was able to brush it off. My brother (who is also my daughter’s godfather) stayed over at our house for awhile after the meal and we watched a lot of football. Hurray for Reggie Bush and my Fantasy Football team!

We took our girl to see Frozen this morning and it was really awesome – I’m resisting the urge to buy every Disney princess doll for my daughter. She hasn’t asked for any and I’m trying not to push them onto her, but I can’t help it…I want to play with ALL THE DOLLS!

Favorite Christmas songs include Silent Night (my grandma’s favorite, therefore tear inducing every time), Do You Hear What I Hear, and Carol of the Bells. You know what song I DON’T like? Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas is You. Ugh.

Now I’m just trying to wrap my brain around the fact that I have to go back to work on Monday and that I only have three weeks until Christmas break.

Oh. And there’s a Harry Potter marathon on, so definitely watching that.

      • EX

We went to see Frozen too. It was my daughter’s first time in the movie theater (aka the “big, big, big TV”) and she did great. I loved the movie (especially how it ended!) but I had to cry the whole time because I am pregnant with my second girl and the whole thing was about sisterly love. Plus hormones.

    • Ana

My toddler/baby got to eat her first Thanksgiving people food! Watching her tear into my apple pie brought me much joy.

    • Jallun-Keatres

My husband and I hosted but cooked no food (woot!). My mom and dad did the turkey and potatoes at our house and my mom made 4(!) pumpkin pies and an apple pie. Then my mom and I went to the expensive grocery store for a veggie tray + cheese and crackers that my sister INSISTED we have. Then all of my in-laws, save one military BIL, plus one boyfriend, came over raising the total from 5 people to 15. They all enjoyed the food and my MIL made a few dishes and bought like 10 pies to have too. We enjoyed the sparkling cider and then played Charades which was really fun. After my family went home we played Mario Kart Wii with my in-laws using our giant projector wall. I had a great time even though I am 3 days overdue and no labor in sight. Oh, and all of my in-laws got a kick out of seeing my baby kick and slither around in my pristine, huge, shiny abdomen.

Needless to say my husband and I had a great time!! Now we have like 8 whole pies in our fridge and no turkey to snack on for the next few days. XD

My husband and I are at his parents’ home, and I finally got the wireless to work. We did have to hear about how “the illegals” are ruining everything, but luckily there was no mention of “the gays” this time. H told his mom she sounded like Rush Limbaugh last time we were here, and I think she’s trying to keep that in mind.

We did get to share the news that I’m six weeks pregnant! I got to use it as an excuse to take lots of naps.

My favorite Christmas song is O Holy Night.

    • LadyClodia

I love to shop online, and I have to hold myself back, especially because I find super-awesome things all of the time. But I could not resist these salt and pepper shakers from fab.com. My excuse was that I need something for a family white elephant exchange, but I bought myself a set too.

      • Justme

        Ooh. I love those.

    • Megan Zander

My mom ditched me to visit my sister in Hawaii so i packed up and took the boys 6 hours to the I laws, and then got the text that my dad farctured his elbow. Not a good start to the holiday, but LOTS wine and watching my boys try real food for the first time got me out of the grumps. They preferred smoked turkey over fried and roasted, in case anyone cared, and I had a smug inner sanctimommy moment thinking they are culinary savants. Don’t worry, I snapped out of it. Ate my weight in pumpkin cheesecake and skipped the Black Friday shopping because there was nothing I wanted/needed and I lack the black belt that one apparently needs to brave those crowds.

    • FormerlyKnownAsWendy

My Thanksgivings with the families f*&#ing sucked, but I had fun with my husband and kids. Thank God for this website when I got home! Am thankful for: Mommyish.

      • EX

That sums up how I felt about my thanksgiving too!

    • Ptownsteveschick

I went to the store today and only bought laundry soap and like 2 toys for Sid’s stocking. We arrived at my mom’s house safely and I am ready to fall asleep and sleep in tomorrow and pretend I am not a mom while Grandma spoils her rotten.

    • EX

I survived Thanksgiving with ultra conservative in-laws (without wine because I’m pregnant). Took my daughter to the movies for the first time (Frozen – highly recommend it). No shopping because I hate shopping on a good day. And my favorite Christmas song is Little Drummer Boy, especially the David Bowie/Bing Crosby version.

    • Muggle

I spent yesterday playing video games, because fuck Black Friday. The only place to shop in my town is Walmart and this is not the kind of town where you’d want to go Black Friday shopping at Walmart. I’m sure there were more than a few fights.

Instead I downloaded a texture pack for Minecraft that looked awesome but turned out to be really disappointing. A whole bunch of blocks were untextured with “do not use!” written on them. WTF? At least leave the default texture on them, or one of the textures from the MANY texture packs you based this one off of…
