Mom Stays Up Too Late Watching American Horror Story  And Sleeps With Hall Light On

american_horror_story_coven_a_lAnd that mom was meeeeeeeee. Did any of you watch? Or did you watch something else scary and is your husband also out of town and did you sleep with the light on? I was SO SCARED and I almost considered waking my daughter up and asking her if she, you know, wanted to sleep in my bed with me, but because I’m a big girl and brave I slept all alone, but with my hall light on!

Semi-Spoilers But Not Really For All You People Who Have Yet To Watch

How AMAZING is this cast? I don’t know if it is the Orange Is The New Black effect but seeing all these women on my television at once warmed my black little heart like nothing else. Kathy Bates is amazing and so so so incredibly evil and awful. I know the character she plays is based on a real person but I need to research and see what books are written so I can learn more. That one man she had upstairs with the face and the not face and the UGH SO SCARY. Plus, her beauty ritual. Gah. Plus, her three evil daughters.

Jessica Lange is BEYOND. I loved all of it, she was all lanky black and smoking hot with her cocaine and her Iron Butterfly and her face sucking and the whole commentary on women and aging and beauty. And could Angela Basset be any more gorgeous?

I am totally fascinated by Gabby Sidibe‘s character and her “talent” – how bizarre and awful was that? And – SPOILER- Taissa Farmiga’s charachter and her killer teeth vagina! And I LOVED the nod to the awful Steubenville rape case. I loved the whole raping the rapist to death thing. Plus, how amazing is the Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies, what a gorgeous house. It’s like a super elegant version of a Nancy Meyer‘s movie house. It’s all fancy spooky way expensive Restoration Hardware or something.

I’m just so excited about this entire season. I love all the themes of feminism and revenge thus far and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out, if I am brave enough to watch it when I’m alone. Even the opening credits were so scary.

I love scary movies and scary TV shows but I was so cared going to bed last night. I’m a grownass woman and I covered my eyes so much. And yeah, I would never let my kids watch this but I know some parents do and this is not one I would even want them to see the credits for.  If enough of you watch it maybe we can do next day recaps and all gnash our teeth about this chewy, chewy show, but if ya’ll are bored we don’t have to. Either way, let me know because I am still sort of freaked out this morning!

I was SO scared, but I loved the catty one liners and ugh Jessica Lange was sooooooo hot!

  • Angela

I’ll just take your word for it. I love me a suspenseful mystery show but I can’t stomach the least little bit of blood and gore.

    • http://Mommyish.com/ Eve Vawter

It’s very gory. I was pretty shocked.

YESSSS! i haven’t seen it yet, and didn’t read your article. but i’m highly pleased at this comment.

I am very gentle on the spoilers. I did not give much away I am all nice like that

      It’s a total gore-fest.

Season one had a little bit of blood but it had a pretty good storyline to hold it up, season two was more shock and gore but it had a pretty gritty feel to it, and so far season three is a pretty intense gore-fest

It’s on my DVR and I was planning to watch it tonight after the kids are in bed and my husband is working late. Maybe I should rethink…

haha I am actually going to watch it again during the day

  • JLH1986

My husband said “what a fucked up talent, you gotta screw people to kill them?” He hadn’t wanted to watch but I conned him into it. Now he can’t wait for next week! Ha ha. SUCCESS!

      YES!

  • Emmali Lucia

I actually almost needed a xanax the beginning messed with my anxiety so bad. I ended up swinging at the seing set in the park until it started squeaking, then I finally took my sleeping pill, if not for that I don’t think I would have slept last night.

  • Kelby Johnson

I haven’t watched it yet but I have it on my DVR to watch! I just have to wait on my husband to fall asleep or stop watching Star Trek so I can have the TV. He works 3rd shift, so I didn’t want to watch it last night all by myself lol

  • nikki753

Ha! No, it was not a good bedtime story. Wish it came on before 10:00 here. That makes it already a bit late to be staying up but worse in that there’s no buffer time between the ending and going to bed.

The opening scenes… so glad it had been a while since dinner. They did such a good job and it was so compelling that I couldn’t hardly blink even when it started making me queasy (the maggots!). Whoever does sets and all of the decor, mad props (yes, ha.). It’s all so spot on. (Minus the beginning when Kathy Bates is putting her night cream on and in one shot it’s between her top lip and nose and not in the next.)

RIGHT? I am all like oh noes my story is on past my bedtime :(

  • Rachel Sea

I don’t watch scary things when my wife is out of town. I LOVE spooky movies and shows, but when I’m alone it’s all rom-coms, cartoons, and musicals, all the time.

  • Amber Starr

I have it DVR’d so that the guy & I can watch it after dinner tonight. I can’t wait! I am so in love with this series <3 And, Jessica Lange was super hot last season, so I'm not surprised that she's already turning up the heat this season. She is foxy as hell.

  • ksu_artist1

Gah! I haven’t watched it yet, but I’m stoked to settle in with my DVR this weekend and get caught up. I would totally be down for recaps!

  • Sundaydrive00

I didn’t think the opening credits were too bad this season. I couldn’t watch them last season, and the first season was also very creepy.

I hope this season is more scary and less gore, like season one was. We always watch it in bed at night, so some of the stuff last season was too unsettling to go to sleep right afterwards.

    • EllieMack

Ooooh! The opening credits, combined with the music, are really creepy! Just can’t look away!

  • Ally

I can only watch this show during daylight hours. Even the opening credits. I learned that while experiencing season 1…

    THAT SONG…

  • Erica

I don’t like horror movies but I LOVED this show. I didn’t realize it would be more horror than drama. Definitely will watch again next week. That hospital scene was very unexpected.

  • logica

I really love all the seasons of American Horror Story so far, it takes all the horror movie stereotypes, smashes them together, and creates something totally unique. Also, I feel I should warn you not to look up the woman that Cathy Bate’s character is based on. I stumbled across the story about her a few years a ago on one of those “most haunted” type shows and I thought that it sounded like a local legend and did some research. But it was true and after reading about her and all of the truely horrific things she did I couldn’t sleep for weeks. The creators of the show actually toned down the historic character for the show, because she and the things she did were “too extreme” for the character in the show. And yes, I purposefully avoided using her name, because I want to avoid thinking about it.

    • Blueathena623

My sister and I went on a New Orleans ghost tour that stopped by the house. The tour guide said that the evil presence was so strong that people can sense it and often feel sick or even passed out. And I passed out for the first time in my life.

  • Copperkroewe

    I. Love. This. Show.

  • Blueathena623

Just caught up, have a lot to say. Season 1 was character based, 2 was location and character based, and, based on only one episode of course, season 3 seems to be going back to character based.
I’m excited, but I hope there are more twists and turns. It almost feels like all the plot lines have already been laid out, BUT there were so many twists and turns in season 2 that I have hope. I just hope they don’t just depend on Lange and Bates to make the season work. They were awesome, and once again !ange stole every scene, but I want more that just them. And they better have more Frances Conroy or I will throw a hissy fit. And Zoe better have a better power because the one she has so far sucks.

  • Justme

I had no idea that it was going to be so gory, but it was totally awesome! A new guilty pleasure. :)
