School Administrator William Rhinaman Indicted In Steubenville Grand Jury – So Much For ‘No Cover Up’

steubenville twitterSteubenville High School employee William Rhinaman has been indicted during the special grand jury investigation of the Steubenville High School rape case. William Rhinaman is employed by the school district as an IT administrator, and has been charged with perjury, obstruction of justice, and tampering of evidence. The grand jury investigation is ongoing, investigating whether additional charges should be filed against school officials and others who may have been involved with the Jane Doe rape case where Ma’Lik Richmond and Trent Mays were found guilty.

I’m not sure exactly what evidence was tampered with, but it could possibly pertain to cell phone videos or photographs that were said at one point to exist. From The Times Leader Online:

One thing they didn’t have was an actual video of the sexual assault. Numerous seized cell phones were tested by BCI and Hanlin said she believed something would have been found. She said she has had child pornography cases where files are deleted on computers and BCI was able to retrieve the images. But that wasn’t the case with iPhones because the deleted pictures cannot be recovered.

“We had to keep conducting interviews because we were not sure the crime lab could recover any video.” she said.

Hanlin said how the case was to be prosecuted changed when the lab said it couldn’t recover the video.

Those of you who have followed the case have heard the refrain from Steubenville residents and others that there has been no “cover up” and that no adults or school employees were involved in protecting the interests of the accused in any way. Attorney General Mike DeWine has said that the grand jury investigation will continue.

In the aftermath of Steubenville, numerous news outlets have claimed that the real villains in the case were the activists, bloggers, media outlets, and Anonymous who did everything from releasing the video of Michael Nodianos joking about the rape, wrote about the case, organized protests, held candlelight vigils, asked for justice to be served, and offered support for other victims in the Ohio town who may need support.

Jezebel, a website that had also covered the case and trials, even recently ran a story entitled “A Town Destroyed By What Two People Did” which claims that the crime:

covered up by town leaders to protect their Big Red superstars.

Although many of these claims were reported by countless mainstream media outlets, none of them turned out to be true.

I don’t know if additional charges will be filed against any adults associated with Steubenville High School or the Big Red Football team, but this is proof that at least one grownup, who should have been more concerned with telling the truth, has been charged with crimes in conjunction with the case.

Meanwhile, on the Big Red Football website, Roll Red Roll, the website owner is requesting visitors vote for Coach Reno Saccoccia for the best coach in Ohio.

Ahhh, Steubenville. Just hearing your name makes me want to scratch that one place that’s really tough to reach.

  • Kelly

Oh my god. Is the Roll Red Roll website really promoting itself as “The Most Famous High School Website In The World?” Stay classy, Steubenville!

which is ironic, considering what made them famous

Welcome to 2013 where fame now means both fame and infamy.

Wow. This is disgusting beyond belief to me. It boggles my mind how a football team can be so all-important that school administrators would deliberately destroy evidence. Not only did he not care at all about getting justice for the victim, he showed a callous disregard for the safety of of the girls attending his school by aiding and abetting rapists being able to rape among them with zero accountability.

I am glad, so glad they are still pushing and pursuing those that participated in the cover up. The only thing worse than Reno being up for best coach in Ohio and that he is neck and neck for first is the number of women commenting on that website in support of him. Sickening.

My co-worker went to that high school. She’s not proud of her school at all–but she is also very unsurprised.

I just found this http://www.cleveland.com/steubenville-rape-case/index.ssf/2013/10/indictment_against_steubenvill.html In the article the indictment document is attached. It was unsealed today. Also, the school district placed him on paid administrative leave? PAID?!?!? Come on really?

    • http://Mommyish.com/ Eve Vawter

Thank you sooooo much for this and I am srsly all FFFFFffFFFFFFFfffFF PAID? over here

    • Haradanohime

Just shows where the school’s priorities are even more.

    • matt30fl

It is highly probable it is a contractual obligation that the pay can’t be stopped or the employment terminated until there is a conviction, not simply an indictment or arrest. If he is unpaid or fired and is not convicted the school district cold be liable for both all the back pay and significant damages when the inevitable suit is filed.

  • matt30fl

Well that’s one more charged. I recall a good number of accessories after the fact that are still running free though.

    • Haradanohime

This was only the first indictment to come out. The Grand Jury has not finished yet.
