There Is A Brooklyn Baby DJ School For All You Parents Too Hip For Mommy And Me

Baby DJ.inddBabies! Do you know what babies are good for? Cuddling, drooling, peeing in their own pants and crying on occasion, not being DJ’s! It’s bad enough I live in a house with a teenager who wants to be a music producer, now tiny little babies wanna get in on the act too? From Baby DJ school:

Baby DJ School, an eight-‐week early childhood music program led by acclaimed DJ and musician Natalie Elizabeth Weiss, will soon make its anticipated debut. On September 18, original songs such as “Makin’ Our Favorite Beat Drop” and “That’s Why Daddy Loves Disco” will transform the ordinary Mommy-‐and-‐me sing-‐along experience into an educational escapade into the wonderful worlds of electro, hip-‐hop, and house! Through singing, movement and interactive technology, little ones will be introduced to playing and handling records, mixing and matching beats and creating fun and funky samples using modern DJ equipment. Baby DJ School will encourage babiesto love dance music and appreciate the way it’s made in a family-‐friendly, positive environment! Baby DJ School is presented by Cool Pony Crown Heights, Brooklyn’s premiere music venue, vinyl haven and vintage clothing store.

Natalie, the  instructor of the class has worked with bands like LCD Soundsystem and The Psychedelic Furs. I suppose of you are way into music and are looking for a fun thing to do with your baby, this sounds like the class to take them too, and I’m sure it’s a lot less obnoxious than Gymboree. As cynical as I am about parents putting their own hipster ideals onto their kids, I bet you could probably network with some pretty cool parents at this thing, at least those willing to shill out 200 bucks to have their baby mess around with some turntables.

Oh man. Everything I read about Brooklyn parents…this happens:
      1. I roll my eyes and scoff
      2. I think it also sounds kinda cool and would totally consider it
      3. I roll my eyes at myself and go cross-eyed

Am I a hipster? Is a self-hating hipster a thing? I don’t think I’m hip enough to be a hipster but maybe I’m hip enough to be a hipster parent? Wait, is making fun of yourself a hipster thing too? FUUUUUCKKK.

It seems like parents are always in such a rush to make sure their kids are creative and talented by pushed age inappropriate activities on their kids. I’m sure most of the famous DJs out now didn’t have their parents take them to $200 baby DJ classes. Or, maybe I’m just hating because I’m a Brooklyn parent that can’t afford to take my kid there.

its a really special class and it costs less than the music for ardvarks program. it is absolutely age appropriate. even three month olds can push a button or move a slider from left to right with their caretakers help. dance music is a type of music like any other. DJing is just playing an instrument. If you think it sounds cool, dont kick yourself for that. New instruments and exposing not just kids, but parents and babysitters, to new music and ways to make it is a good thing! Diversity is important, as is early music education. If you want to just TRY a class for FREE I think you will have a great time. Email me at theunicornicopia@gmail.com. Thanks so much!

I am not cool. Teaching babies to DJ is the dorkiest thing a person could possibly do

I beg to differ! Those of us not in Brooklyn wanna hear about it! What made you decide to do this?

You are sweet. I taught my friends 1 and a half year old how to DJ and it went well so I started scoping out other early music enrichment courses and figured it could work in a class setting.
