Gwyneth Paltrow Cuts Off School Bus In Vespa, Brings Out My Inner Sanctimommy

gwyneth paltrow east hamptonHer royal GOOP-iness, Gwyneth Paltrow may have just landed herself on the mommy shit list and this time, it has nothing to do with being strict about her children’s diets. The mother of two was reportedly picking up her daughter Apple from school in Los Angeles when the two hopped on a Vespa and cut off a school bus. There is, unfortunately, video capturing this rather scary episode. The car seat moms are a commin’ for you BIG TIME on this one, Gwyneth!

As is captured on film, the bus driver sees Gwyneth and slows down, preventing what appears like it could have been a horrific accident. While school pick up road rage can sometimes be worthy of popcorn and a Real Housewives of (fill in the blank) audition, I am officially the lady is the adjacent car clutching my pearls and calling CPS. NOT REALLY. But you get the idea.

of course she is on a Vespa.

Idiot. As a teacher who has done bus duty a million times (it seems) for over 13 years, I have to say: parents can SUCK. Who the hell do you think you are, cutting off a bus filled with 40-50 kids bc your little golden angel needs to get home sooner? What a rotten, disgusting example to show your kid. Simply dangerous. Indulgent. Inexcusable.

I once got so mad at a mom who almost side-swiped ME as a bus monitor that I actually screamed at her, whipped her car with my stack of bus lists (I was that close) and then forced the principal to call her into a meeting where I threatened to call the police on her ass. Duh.

And never mind ‘sanctimommy’: I felt this way before having kids and still feel the same now about school and public buses. Be patient, people; you’ll get there, I promise!

Bless this post. I also work at a primary school, and because of the location, there is only one small street where parents can pick up their kids. PANDEMONIUM. No one knows what their turn signal is, cars blocking the parking lot, people stopping in the middle of the street for several minutes at a time, etc. I abhor parents who pull that crap.

That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen, or heard of her doing. I knew she didn’t get hurt and my heart was still in my throat when I watched that. It’s a good thing she can afford good medical treatment, because extensive skin grafts are no joke.

  • Alex

She still got to the stop light ahead of the bus, so… WORTH IT!!!

    Additional thoughts:

1.) Can we really confirm that this was Gwyneth Paltrow (she is wearing a helmet at least, but/so it really could have been anybody)? Still stupid no matter who.

2.) Both scooters seem to be skirting between the lanes and other vehicles which, while legal in most states as I understand it, is still dangerous especially around a school during pickup hours.

3.) Holy crap that intersection looks horrible.

4.) Anyone else notice that for the clip to result in the angles and perspectives as shown, the camera operator would have had to have been voluntarily standing IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD blocking traffic and happened to have the camera pointing directly at the stop? So it might not be so much “getting her child home sooner” as “getting away from soul-sucking paparazzi”.

I think she just wasn’t paying attention. Still terrible, but not indicative of a sense of “privilege” or anything.

This is mostly unrelated, but my dad was a school bus driver for a while, and my favourite story is the time he got rear-ended WHILE PARKED by a woman in a car. He was driving a giant, full-size bright yellow school bus. She initially claimed she didn’t see him, then when she figured out that wasn’t really going to fly, she made up some story about how she was distracted because she had dropped her bible.

      Was she reading it mid-drive?

    • allisonjayne

      I guess?

  • MJ

Um, no one here has been in Italy. There are whole families on Vespas here including the dog and baby!! No helmets either. And they drive worse then she did too.

So, I have to admit that Mrs. Goop gets on my last fucking nerve. And we can add “Can’t drive a scooter for shit” to the many other reasons why. But why is it just about her? What about the dude on the Vespa behind her, who I might assume might be her husband, picking up son Banana or Ecclesiastes or whatever the hell his name is? Or are there multiple pretentious hipster parents on matching Vespas picking up kids at the school? He zoomed out in front of the bus right after she did. They’re both dicks.

Also, pretty sure if there were video of me cutting off a school bus and everyone knew it was me, I’d at least get a big fat ticket. So, here’s hoping.

    Good grief, what a moron.
Especially since she comes across as quite the obnoxious smug sanctimommy, herself.
