The Royal Princeling Has Been Named And, No, They Didn’t Go With Philip

The original P.O.C, also known as the little dumpling who was publicly escorted from the hospital yesterday has been named! And no, just so we’re clear, they did not manage to squeeze Philip, Diana, William, or Harry anywhere in his fancy title.

According to the royal Twitters, this is what we’re working with:

royal baby nameGeorge Alexander Louis! Very princely indeed.

And to those ladies who have been puttering around the maternity wards to name their nameless infants, you officially have the go ahead. I imagine we will be seeing a lot of George, Alexander, and Louis perhaps on the 2013 baby naming trends (which is much, much better than Princess Angel).

Smashing middle-name choice, I must say.

Has a real princely ring to it, doesn’t it?

  • AStewart

I was hoping it would be Edward so we could have a (future) dashing Prince Teddy.
But the name is lovely :)

Nah, Elizabeth’s uncle Edward was a disgrace. It’ll be a long time before one of her descendants is given that name.

Except that Queen Elizabeth has a son named Edward.

  • NeuroNerd

I had a feeling they would go with either George or Albert, in honor of Queen Elizabeth’s father.

  • LiteBrite

I knew it was going to be George! Whoo-hoo!

  • Rachel Sea

It would have been a little weird if they picked Philip, William already has a first cousin named after their grandfather. I was thinking either George or Albert for a boy.

  • thisshortenough

I realised I was a little too invested in the royal family when I heard the baby name and went “Ah that’s lovely, Elizabeth will love that” like they’re my neighbours.

I was hoping it was Albert, because dammit we need to keep that joke going for future generations.

    I love it!

  • Jessie

What a nice name, very royal indeed. :D

  • Madame Ovaries

When the bookies basically had it down to George or James, I kinda knew it would be George. The last King James was overthrown, the last King George was Colin Firth. Duh!

    • CrazyFor Kate

Not to mention William has a first cousin named James (age 5) and Kate has a brother with the same name. That’s just too many Jameses.

Apparently George was the 12th most popular name in Britain last year so there are already lots of little Georges out there … now there will be even more if the naming trend is correct.
Not thrilled with the choice (like I have any say in it!) and would have rathered Albert, to be called Bertie as an infant. Alexander and Louis are nice.

*laughs* My 2 month old cousin is Alexander. Poor boy. Everyone will think he was named as part of the trend, when really it’s simply a name his mother and father liked.
