Amanda Bynes Is Undergoing A Mental Evaluation And I Just Want To Give Her A Maternal Hug

amanda bynes blue wigAt the risk of her reading this is totally calling me FUG, I gotta say, Amanda Bynes is having a seriously bad year. First there was her odd request of singer Drake to “murder her vagina”, then she shaved her head, and THEN she allegedly dropped a bong from her window. As if that isn’t enough, now Amanda Bynes is being put on an involuntary 72 hour hold in California.

Reportedly our old pal Mandy (we share the same birthday so we can totally be on nickname terms) was forced to undergo a 5150 evaluation yesterday (which is for mental health) after doing what she does best and causing a ruckus outside of the posh Thousand Oaks neighborhood in California, where she grew up.

Ventura county deputies reportedly believe that Bynes may have been involved with a small fire that was started on a resident’s driveway. She was also reportedly accused of trespassing at a nearby retirement community, where she was asked to leave after appearing drunk and disorderly.

im like a money

At the risk of being all “LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE” about this,  I just can’t help but feel bad for Amanda. I think the pressures of being a child star, coupled with an un-diagnosed mental illness are wreaking havoc on her, and I hope she gets the help she needs.

As a mother, all I want to do (like I do with my own kids when they’re having a bad day) is make her some chicken soup. Then I would make her take a damn nap. At the very least I think she deserves a hug. It’s okay Mandy, I’m here for you!

Oh, I think it’s clear as day that she’s mentally ill and desperately needs help. I actually see this as a really GOOD thing–maybe she’ll finally get the care she needs.
Normally I roll my eyes when celebrities engage in crazy, irresponsible behavior and the response is to call for “sympathy” instead of requiring them to man up and take responsibility for their actions (Lindsay Lohan, anyone?) But here, it seems obvious that Bynes is genuinely mentally ill and I feel very sorry for her. I hope she’s able to get healthy.

I totally agree. I know someone who went through a similar break down (around the same age) and the BEST thing that happened to her was being put on a 72 hour hold. She finally got the help she needed and it made a world of difference. So while I feel bad for Amanda, I am hoping this is the kick in the pants she needs.

How is she mentally ill though? Did she grow into it? She seemed perfectly normal and sane in her early career. Then went off the radar for a while as sometimes happens in Hollywood. Then the next we hear of her she’s crashing her car and spiraling out of control? What made her snap?

Many mental illnesses have an onset of mid to late 20s, especially if she has been using drugs to self medicate,it will present itself in extreme ways.

Agree with this. Schizophrenia, in particular, often surfaces in the mid to late 20s.

A friend of mine had a very similar break down (at the exact same age) and was eventually diagnosed with bipolar disorder. There are a few mental illnesses that don’t show themselves until the early or even late 20s. There are even cases where schizophrenia won’t show up until MUCH later in life.
