While Tamerlan Tsarnaev Was Allegedly Plotting To Blow Up Boston Marathon, His Wife Was Busting Her Bum Supporting Their Family

bostonmarathong2Police are still discerning a motive for why 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who died in a police shootout, and his 19-year-old brother Dzhokhar Tsarnaev allegedly plotted the Boston Marathon bombings. All the more reason they’re now looking to chat with Tamerlan’s widow, Katherine Russell Tsarnaev, who claims she had no idea what Tamerlan was up to. Primarily because she busting her ass to support her husband and their toddler.

Time reports that Katherine has procured a lawyer, Amato DeLuca, who is telling the press that she hasn’t spoken to authorities since she went to stay with her family in Rhode Island after her husband was killed. But federal officials are looking to get an interview on the books soon. In the meantime, DeLuca has spoken with the authorities on her behalf, and to the press as well:

DeLuca also offered new details on Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s movements in the days after the bombings, saying the last day he was alive that “he was home” when his wife left for work. When asked whether anything seemed amiss to his wife following the bombings, DeLuca responded, “Not as far as I know.” He said she learned her husband was a suspect in the bombings by seeing it on TV. He would not elaborate.

Katherine’s lawyer also maintains that she didn’t suspect her husband of doing anything terrorist related, which may have something to do with the 70-80 hour seven-day work weeks she was pulling as a home health care aide. Her husband was the designated stay-at-home dad of their daughter.

DeLuca adds that she was “working all week to support her family,” while Tamerlan was reportedly plotting the bombings.

Although Katherine was raised Christian, she converted to Islam after meeting Tamerlan because, according to her lawyer, “She believes in the tenets of Islam and of the Koran. She believes in God.”

Islamphobes should note that doesn’t necessarily mean she condones three deaths and 170+ injuries at the alleged hands of her husband.

Not really liking the headline for this and the negative connotations that make it seem like it was bad that his wife was working and he wasn’t. Outside of the fact that he was a horrible person that killed people, I don’t see how his wife working and him
Being a stay at home parent is relevant.

Um, because it is a fact? She worked, he was a SAHT (Stay at home terrorist) and if the sexes were reversed or if Tamerlan was a lady terrorist and her husband worked then it would still be relevant. Besides, anyone familiar with Mommyish knows we are very pro SAHM and SAHD just NOT SAHT

Honestly, he should’ve used those pressure cookers to make a really nice pot roast.

If you see all these appliances arriving at the front door and dinner is not made, it’s time to start asking the hard questions.

This is awful but amazingly funny

      • lulu

Yeah. I get that it’s a fact but still not sure why it’s important. But I do love your acronym (SAHT).

      • Justme

I read that as “SHAT” as in the classic Austin Powers scene “and he shat on a turtle.” What the hell is wrong with me.

Stay at Home Terrorist. What a world. What a world.

When she is working 80+ hours a week to provide for their family and he is cooking bombs in the basement, I think there definitely needs to be a reevaluation of duties. I mean, I’m all for a SAHD and all, but I find it hard to respect a man (or woman or whatever) who lets their spouse work that much while they sit around and tinker up ways to destroy the world. Maybe if he had a JOB, he wouldn’t have had so much time on his hands!

” who lets their spouse work that much while they sit around and tinker up ways to destroy the world”

        amazingly put

        Thanks!

And your comment reminded me of

“What are we going to do tonight?”

“Same thing we do every night Pinky.”

        “What’s that?”

“Try to take over the world.”

Not exactly. The motive is “Jihad”. Everything else is filler and background noise.

Police are, however, working hard to discern who else was involved, and how. As Matthew Fisher wrote the other day.

“What happened in Boston underlines again that radical Islam is a global brand with a global reach. It benefits from the cross-fertilization of movements in the Caucasus,
the Hindu Kush, the Maghreb, the Sahara, the Saudi Peninsula, the Balkans, and
reach into the Philippine and Indonesian archipelagos. To contain it requires a
unity of purpose that the rest of the world has not yet fully shown or comprehended.”

Unless you’ve spoken to the surviving bomber or anyone else directly connected to the attack, you’re making really ugly assumptions. For all we know, they’re just nasty people who happen to be Muslim.

      • http://www.xojane.com/author/eve Eve Vawter

word. Annie I am kinda falling in love with you

      • Annie

        Hooray! :D

      • http://www.facebook.com/valerisexton.jones Valeri Jones

        Jealous. :/

      • Annie

It’s no different than when a conservative Christian pulls this shit and they immediately jump to assume that it’s because of their beliefs. Even if that’s usually the case, to make such statements is irresponsible and against the most basic tenants of the American judicial system; to reserve judgment until the facts are made clear, no matter how deplorable the act.

        Thank. you.
Though I wouldn’t try to talk sense to Lestango. If you get pulled into a conversation he/she will find some way to insult you in every possible way, starting with your education and ending with your worldview.

      • durtynelly

Actually the FACT is that their radical Islamic religion was indeed their motive. Bomber #2′s words, not mine. Check the news.

    • meteor_echo

You know, since I live not too far away from the region where this guy came from, and have to see men from it more than I would like to, I probably have a slightly different picture than most Western people would. See, in Chechnya, Dagestan and Afghanistan (all of them staunchly Muslim places – of the kind where a girl is shot in the head because she wants education for women instead of being a commodity), it is considered above men to work too hard. Physical work is for women, and they slave the heck off for their whole lives, being treated by most of the populace of those regions like bipedal cattle. And they also have childrearing to do, while local men enjoy themselves and think of religion, philosophy and other apparently urgent issues.
So, it just somehow seems to me that this guy found a woman who’d be definitely of the overly responsible kind, and simply did not take any part in working – I doubt that any adequate man would not try to take part of the burden off his wife’s shoulders if she had 80-hour work weeks. So, she really busted her butt off providing for this monster, and probably had to take care of the kid, too. Call me bitter, islamophobic, whatever. I’ve seen too many families like this here in Ukraine (sans the terrorism, obviously). And fuck this. This guy really is a monster, I feel sorry for his wife and daughter.

      • CookieChica

Interesting! I was wondering since I would assume a radical Muslim would be very against his wife working outside of the home.

      • meteor_echo

Simply adjusting to the Western realities, I suppose. Working only at home would not bring in enough money to feed the family of three.

      • Nat Sec

It says home health care aid. That can bring in a decent wage, and if she was working 70 hours a week she was bringing in some good money – average $10.49 hourly and would probably be getting time and a half for the overtime if she worked for just one company.

Possibly Tamarlan was siphoning off some of his wifes paychecks to fund his secret terrorist plot?

      • smishsmash

“So, she really busted her butt off providing for this monster, and probably had to take care of the kid, too.”

Yeah, I’m creeping into the territory of gross stereotypes here, but since we’re talking about a guy who already has his views documented that domestic abuse against women is no biggie, I’m going to go out on a limb here and agree with you that he probably wasn’t putting too much effort into childcare. Weren’t they both living with his mother? Ten to one he did nothing all day while grandma took care of the kids.
