35 year old woman with no kids, and I love Dinosaur Train. It actually makes me want to learn more about dinosaurs. And, frankly, I love Don’s underbite–all the kids don’t look the same, which a small thing that makes a big statement. I just really wish they’d get Buddy’s arms right. They’re WAY too long for his species.

My 2 year old daughter LOVES Daniel Tiger. She asks for him everyday. And I love Daniel Tiger because it’s such a sweet, polite show with cute little songs to help kids remember the skills they learn. To me, it’s sort of like the anti-Caillou. No incessant whining here….

I adore Doc McStuffins and encourage my 2-year-old to watch it. She doesn’t love it with the same passion as Dora and Diego, but she will watch it. I, however, have to make myself wait for her to watch the show. It’s just so cute!

    • Samsam

Doc is the only show my son has any interest in. I let him watch it in the morning while I get ready for work. He wakes up asking, “Doc? Doc?” and carries around one of her books all day long. I think it’s cute too-I’m glad that was the one he latched on to!

  • C.J.

I feel old, the only cartoons on this list that I have even heard of are Dinosaur train and Mickey Mouse. My seven year old still watches both. She especially loves watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse with my mother so they can sing the hotdog song together.

Some very good choices, but you forgot Sid the Science Kid!

    • LadyClodia

Sid was on her list of “obnoxious” shows from yesterday, go figure.

  • LadyClodia

There is no way I would have put some of these on my list: Dinosaur Train, no way, and Sofia the First is painful to watch too, but my son doesn’t like either of those too much (some of the Sofia eps he does like.) I don’t really like the Wild Kratts either, although I had loved Zoboomafoo.

We watch Jake and Mickey Mouse quite a bit, and I don’t mind Doc McStuffins. But on my list I would have moved the Imagination Movers, Yo Gabba Gabba, and Umizoomi off of the “obnoxious” list to my “don’t hate watching” list.

  • LadyClodia

Also I would like to add “My Little Pony Friendship is Magic” to this list. While it doesn’t seem educational at first, I would say that it’s just as socially and morally educational as something like “Sofia” and is much more fun to watch.

My daughter could watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse all day, every day. She squeals the second she sees Mickey come on screen. Another show she loves is Lazy Town. It was annoying at first, but it has grown on me.

Hot Dog Hot Dog Hot Diggity Dog.

Seriously, that song drills holes into my skull.

But at least it means the show is over:)

i cant stand daniel tiger or mickeymouse clubhouse. thank god we dont have the Disney Channel. Kratt brothers all the way. Cyberchase is good too, but not for real young kids (but my 4 and 6 year old watch it). And Electric Company

  • Life-Sized Mommy

It’s so funny that you mentioned “River Monsters”! My son has loved that show for a long time, and Jeremy Wade is his hero. (He was even nice enough to send my little boy a card for his 3rd birthday.) And it’s such a nice break from children’s programming.

Love the Kratt Brothers–even way back with Zaboomafoo. Good rough-and-tumble male role models for my sons, plus a lot of interesting, educational content.
