Welcome To My Nightmare: Two Fifth-Grade Boys Plot Their Classmates’ Murders

murder plotGet ready. This story sounds more like the script to an episode of Criminal Minds than a real piece of news. More than that, it sounds like every parent’s worst nightmare.

Two fifth-grade boys in Washington have been thwarted in their attempt to murder their classmates, starting with a young girl who briefly “dated” one of the little boys. The 10 and 11-year-old boys stole a semi-automatic weapon from an older brother and a 3.25-inch knife, planning to stab the little girl and shoot anyone who attempted to interfere. They also had a list of six other classmates that they were planning to kill by luring them off school property and attacking them.

The way that the young boys talked about the crimes is extremely disturbing. They told police, “Yes, I just want her dead.” As to motive, the boys said that the little girl was rude and picked on them and their friends. An officer also overheard one boy telling the other,  ”If I find out who told them about our weapons, I’m going to kill them. I don’t care; when I get out of jail I’m going to come back and kill them.”

The boys’ plan was thwarted when a schoolmate told administrators about the plot. The boys had even brought their weapons to school with the intent of carrying out the crime.

In Washington, children under the age of 12 are not thought to have the capacity for rational decision-making needed to commit a crime. The boys will have to be evaluated to determine whether they understood exactly what they were doing. An officer noted in his interview that the older boy, ”did not display any emotion or remorse during the interview.”

This entire story is simply horrifying. It’s horrifying to think of the parents of these boys, facing the idea that their children could commit cold-blooded murder. It’s horrifying for the victims and their families, who were the targets of a brutal plot. It’s horrifying for the school in general.

Thankfully, one brave student came forward before something tragic happened. We should be rejoicing the close call and that countless lives weren’t ruined. But it’s hard to see the good when there are two boys so disturbed. It’s hard to breathe a sigh of relief over a story that still leaves so much sadness.

And yet because of there ages they will go to Juvenal hall at best and then probably get out when they are 21 to hurt more people. When a child so no empathy or remorse planning to kill other children and enjoy it they should just be put down. They are not human but monsters. They are showing trade mark psychotic behavior. The world doesn’t need more crazies murdering innocent kids.

Put them down? Are you effing kidding me? Get them psychiatric care, have them supervised if necessary, but have a child killed because of such issues? That was a really, really awful comment, and frankly, I don’t see any reason to think you’re any better than those two boys.

While I agree that killing one set of children in order to prevent the death of other children is absurd, I am prone to agree with Lilac in that I do believe that this pair is exhibiting trade mark psychotic behavior. I honestly don’t know that there is an amount of “psychiatric help” that will make these two fit for life outside of prison and therefore, it is my opinion that they should be permanently locked away now before they are given the chance to actually carry out their ill intentions.I

Oh.my.god. What is going on?! Those are some really messed up children! I have encountered bad children before and I would like to think that he is just saying this to put up a badass front. Some of my students have not relented even in the presence of cops, while their friends or someone that can get word out of their bad ass remarks they made to “grown ups.” I would really like to hope and BELIEVE that they will take it back after a few days in juvi, but if the older brother is stealing guns, something tells me at least one of the children is exposed and numb to violence.

Okay, I’m not one to scream “Where are the parents?!”…buuuutttt, um where are the parents?!! The ‘older brother’ was also a minor–I mean, I’m not against private gun ownership, but who allows their kids to have their own personal semi-automatic weapons that they keep in their own rooms?!

What the hell is wrong with people??

Colville is a small town in a very rural area. Highly conservative voters and dedicated NRA supporters. Guns are a way of life. When guns are so readily available, tragic stuff will happen. These are not Lapierre’s legendary “bad guys.” These are sociopaths with easy access to tools that should not be so common.

The areas with the highest rates of gun violence in the US are low-income urban areas. (D.C. has the highest gun homicide rates per capita.) Rural areas are less likely to see this type of violence; Washington state is currently 26th in the nation for homicides, so I wouldn’t blame the area or the culture for this.

But yes, it’s tragic that these boys thought this was an appropriate course of action, and the older brother should absolutely have secured his gun better.

I want them to ban all the guns, and this is my reason I want America to
see that nothing will change. All the so called crazy people will just
use that opportunity to be creative and come up with even more sick and
twisted plans to harm people. They can take the guns away but the people
will still be there. And of course you say “I’ll just call the police.”
When have the police ever got there in time and if they did you just
got lucky. Must people don’t have that kind of luck this is more of a
mental problem with these people, they would care what weapon they have
as long as they can inflict harm.
