What is the world coming to? Good Grief. Former child actor and voice of Charlie Brown, Peter Robbins, has been arrested for making threats and stalking according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. The 56-year-old was brought in to custody by US Customs and Border Patrol as he was crossing back into California from Mexico.
Robbins was just nine years old when he voiced Charlie Brown, everyone’s favorite perpetually unlucky little boy from the Peanuts cartoons. He starred in the most well-known and favorite Peanuts television specials like “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” and “You’re In Love, Charlie Brown.”
The details of his case or the name of his victims have not yet been released to the press. Robbins is accused of four counts of making threats and one count of stalking. Authorities have said that the case stems from an arrest made earlier this month.
Charlie Brown is just the latest in a line of beloved children’s characters who have found themselves in trouble. Kevin Clash, the voice and puppeteer behind Elmo has made numerous headlines for allegations of sex with minors. The son of Barney creator, Sheryl Leach, was recently charged with attempted murder for shooting a man in the chest. Now, it’s the Peanuts gang who will become the butt of ever late night joke and the subject of a dozen Twitter hashtags.
It’s sad to see such a wholesome children’s character get dragged into such a negative spotlight. Peter Robbins hasn’t worked much in the entertainment industry since his childhood days of trying to control Snoopy. According to IMDB, he hasn’t worked on any television show or film since 1972. Charlie Brown is Robbins’ claim to fame. That means that Charlie Brown is the name that will populate the headlines. Be prepared for the “blockhead” quotes to start rolling in.
