Westboro Baptist Church Vows To Picket Funerals – Anonymous Vows To Greet Them (UPDATED)

twitterToday will be a long, sad day for the residents of Newtown, Connecticut, and for the rest of the world as we mourn with them. Six-year-old Charlotte Bacon, a little girl who wanted to grow up to be a veterinarian, will be laid to rest. Her service starts at one o’clock at the Christ the King Lutheran Church. Services will be held for 6-year old Caroline Previdi, a girl whose family says brought happiness to everyone she touched. Her funeral mass starts at noon and her burial will be private. The burial ceremony for Chase Kowalski will also be private. His family says the seven-year old had a “true love of life.” Seven-year-old soccer player and swimmer Daniel Barden will be buried today. Teacher  Victoria Soto, who has been called a hero for protecting the children. Beloved principal  Dawn Hochsprung, who lost her life lunging at Adam Lanza, and who the Westboro Baptist Church vows to picket the wake of. From the Westboro Baptist Church website, unfortunately titled Godshatesfags.com:

Woodbury Funeral Home in Woodbury, CT    December 19, 2012  2:15 PM – 3:00 PM

WBC to picket the funeral of Sandy Hook Elementary School Principal Dawn Hochsprung.

How many more of your children will you sacrifice to your filthy fag marriage?! You proved you hate your kids by making Connecticut one of the first states to institute fag marriage. You marry wives (divorce & remarriage) and give men in marriage (same-sex marriage), just as Christ said would happen just before the time that He returns in power and glory, taking vengeance on the disobedient (Luke 12; 2 Thes 1).

The blood of the Newtown dead is on the hands of every preacher, teacher, parent and leader of Connecticut.

The dead children of Sandy Hook Elementary are better off dead than to continue being raised for such great wrath and destruction as you have brought to this land. There is no hope for any child of this nation outside of Westboro Baptist Church. You have a duty to teach your children to fear God or else leave them to desolation, darkness and destruction.

There is one local state senator who is also against the actions of the Westboro Baptist Church. From Fox4Now:

“I think it’s unfathomable that  they would use a moment where 20 precious little angels had been taken from us to make a political statement,” said Benaquisto.

Benaquisto is working to pass legislation she sponsored last year which would create a 500 foot buffer zone at funerals for military, emergency workers, or minors in Florida and it’s aimed at demostrations like those being held by the Kansas church.

Four police cruisers were on patrol just after midnight outside the Motel 6 on Queen Street in Southington, where members of the church are staying.

Anonymous is asking those interested in providing peaceful resistance against the WBC and providing support for the grieving families to meet at a local park this morning.

There has been a posting on Facebook asking that counter-picketers stay away from the visitation of Dawn Hochsprung.

As it stands at this moment, Anonymous is asking those in the area or those who have traveled to support the residents of Newtown to meet at the park and go from there. They have stated that Anonymous will be polite and respectful of the community, and that they are there to offer support against the Westboro Baptist Church.

And as I write this, it looks like the plans have changed again.

Updates to follow. I’m still amazed that the WBC can be so hateful that they are actually going to use this community and their anguish to spew their own messages of hate. For those of you who aren’t in the area and would like to offer your support, you can follow the hashtag #Occupynewtown on Twitter user @KyAnonymous who has organized the group in Newtown, or make a donation to The United Way.

UPDATE: Earlier today, the main Anonymous Twitter account was suspended, but then reinstated. People who are in Woodbury to support the residents and to counteract any protests from the WBC have stated there are many people standing in wait, old people, young people, military, biker gangs, and Anonymous. So far, no one from the Westboro Baptist Church has made an appearance, but this article will be updated as needed. The plan still stands that Anonymous and their supporters are there for support and peace against any picketing by the WBC.

And now reports that local fireman and police are standing side by side with Anonymous and others to block the mourners from the WBC.

These picketers need the mental health that so many say that the shooter was in need of. This is unfathomable and they are subhuman in so many different ways, but this one is outrageous.

It is, and it makes me very sad too, but the remarkable thing is to witness the love and support that is being given to the community, it’s amazing

These are not christians..REAL Christians believe in love, and those kids are not god’s punishment. Those hateful bullies have a very harsh reality coming to them. I am sorry to everyone who thinks this is what “God” stands for, He doesnt! These people leave a horrid outlook on our real faith. I am so sorry those babies and those wonderful teachers lost their lives its a sad sad thing and my condolences to the entire community and to the families!

Where in Christianity is hate-mongering an involved practice? What are Fred Phelps and the WBC afraid of anyhow? Rainbows? Unicorns? A flaming pink queer apocalypse? I attempted to address this with a portrait of the good reverend on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/03/fred-phelps-and-westboro-baptist-church.html Drop in and let me know what you think!

We in Topeka, KS have lived among the hatred and vileness of the Westboro Baptist Church and the Phelps’ families for too long with nothing being done about their intrusion into other lives.

Not only do they picket national-news events, but they picket every single day here in Topeka, on various streets, and worst of all they force their little children to carry and hold their hateful signs. They are not only gleefully happy with the deaths of soldiers and homosexuals, but children. They are not only wanting to picket the Newtown victims, but a little 2-year-old girl’s funeral here in Topeka that was mauled by a dog and died. For Shame!

Our goal is to generate enough funding to allow groups of people to completely overshadow their message, their picket lines, their existence. We need signage, materials, transportation, technology aids and talent.

If you are local, and cannot donate, please volunteer your time. The more the merrier!

It’s truly inspiring to see what can be achieved when you unleash the power of imagination. It takes more than a social conscience to do it. It takes ongoing financial support, generously provided by individuals, foundations and public and private institutions. Your investment will enable us to continue our project and expand our work as we take on new challenges. In all honesty, you’ll never get more value for your money (and some very good karma).

    Thank you.
