The Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade is making it’s way through the streets of New York City. Hello Kitty, Papa Smurf, and Spongebob are floating in the air for the world to admire. Dora the Explorer is hiding somewhere in there, yelling at everyone to say, “Map.”
As I watch the parade of children’s characters that have earned “Parade Balloon Status,” I have to admit that I’m a little underwhelmed. I mean, Diary of a Wimpy Kid? Really?
There are better cartoons out there, my friends. There are better characters, much more deserving of cheer and adoration this Thanksgiving. So I humbly submit the following for consideration. Please add on in the comments and let us know which characters you thing deserve a little love from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Barbie
Alright, I might catch some flack for this, but Barbie is one of the most iconic children's characters ever. She's beloved by little kids everywhere. Barbie could use a little recognition.Doc McStuffins
The era of Dora the Explorer is over. The Doc is in. I think this little girl, whose popularity is growing every day, will be getting her own balloon someday soon.Harry Potter
How is it that Harry Potter never made it into the air? An entire generation grew up with this boy. Sure, he wasn't really a cartoon. But there are plenty of Harry drawings to work from.Power Puff Girls
These petite little superheroes are still some of the most awesome cartoon characters ever. Give them some love, Macy's.Super Mario Brothers
How is it that Sonic the Hedgehog gets a float but Mario and Luigi are shut out in the cold? These are the OG gaming characters.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
This one is kind of cheating. These guys got their own float for the first time this year. I would just love to see the turtles floating down the streets of New York. Adding a Shredder in there would be even better. The Grinch
Hello!!! He's one of the best characters that we're about to see in the next month. If Santa gets to come down in the parade, the Grinch should get to come too.Minnie Mouse
Mickey has been in the parade numerous times. Where's Minnie's balloon? Why are we shutting out the girl mouse?Winnie the Pooh
Call me a traditionalist, but how did Winnie the Pooh never earn a float? Pooh Bear wouldn't be that difficult of a float. He's a big ball of fluff.Wonder Woman
Why is Spiderman the only superhero in the show? Wonder Woman would make a great addition to the parade. Honestly, I would feel a little safer if she was there.
