Woman Sues After Breastfeeding Video Gets Pornified

New Jersey mother MaryAnn Sahoury was simply trying to help other mothers with breastfeeding. That’s why she agreed to participate in an instructional video about how to nurse your child. But after the video made its way to porn sites, and now she’s suing the producer of the original video:

“Breastfeeding for me was the most rewarding thing I had ever done in my life,” Sahoury told NBC 4 New York. “I wanted to share that with people. I wanted to really give back.”

The video was put together by Meredith Video Studios, part of the Meredith Corporation. Before the shoot, Sahoury said the videographer told her the footage would only be used for the educational video.

But the video was posted to YouTube and then, to Sahoury’s horror, taken by a third party, who manipulated it and posted it to several pornography websites.

Ugh. Can you imagine? I would be so disgusted if my attempt to help women breastfeed was exploited for some bizarre nursing fetish. She also says she was promised her last name wouldn’t be used in the video, but it was. But is the videomaker to blame for the use by porn sites?

Last week, a judge ruled that the lawsuit can proceed. Meredith Video Studios issued a statement:

Meredith was appalled to learn someone misused a video meant to help new mothers. We took immediate action, hiring leading law firms and online specialists to file take-down demands, clear online caches and create positive references. We took these actions even though Ms. Sahoury signed a release authorizing use of the video across all media platforms, and holding Meredith harmless for any potential misuse of the video by a third party.

Unfortunately the porn world is willing to cross any and all boundaries of decency in pursuit of objectifying women, feeding the self esteem losses in men, and profit. No lawsuit will stop it.

Can’t wait for the victim-blaming to start on this one! I feel so bad for her. It’s not just that some people insist on sexualizing feeding children, it’s also that people will stop at nothing to feed a fetish, including preying on something innocent like this.

    • Nichole

I agree. This is terrible :-( I really hope she wins her case. Aren’t porn industries SUPPOSED to have release forms signed in order for them to put something out??

    • http://www.facebook.com/courtney.wooten Courtney Lynn

They have all kinds of loopholes. The porn world is really devious and evil, IMO.

Well, breach of contract is serious. If you’re promised your last name won’t be used and then it is, you’ve taken advantage of this woman who was trying to help you.

    • goofyjj

it depends on the contract. a LOT of people sign contracts without reading them. they think they’ll be the next snooky or kardashian – famous for just being on tv or internet.
I’m not saying that’s what she though BUT if the contract said “across all media” then they are not in breach. It’s a crappy contract but if she signed it, she has nobody to blame but herself.

I guess I’m curious why she had to get naked and wear nothing but a towel to make a instructional video? I’m ALL for breastfeeding but she could have gotten her point across with at least pants on.

    • http://www.facebook.com/jleighdesignz Jennifer MomSpotted

And I’m not saying what happened is okay either.

    • Nichole

It looks more to me like a sarong; I don’t think she’s naked at all.

    • Nichole

Shitless is one thing, naked is another

    • Nichole

Good lord, I swear I meant shirtless! Haha, woops! :)

i didn’t mean to post that twice… my first comment wasn’t showing up, oops.

  • Lindsay

This is really disappointing to me because when I was trying to breastfeed, instructional videos were way more helpful than the still images and diagrams and text descriptions of what you’re supposed to do. I want her to get justice because I don’t want other mothers to be discouraged to help people learn to breastfeed, however I don’t know that it’s the producer’s fault that a third party stole the video.

  • http://itsmyworldcanthasnotyours.blogspot.com/ wmdkitty

Um, I’m no lawyer, but the studio isn’t liable for something a THIRD PARTY DID with the video, WITHOUT PERMISSION.

  • purrungas

in a few words, she wants to get paid…..as always playing victim and getting what they plan…. something wrong with the system….. :-(

    • goofyjj

      I have to agree.

  • W_The_F

You gotta admit that stock photo is hot

  • goofyjj

I have two problems with this whole thing. She DID sign a release that the footage could be used “across all media”. Sorry – the sad truth is – if you put something out there, you really can’t be surprised if someone uses it in a way that wasn’t intended. It’s not right but it’s also not surprising.

That’s not “blaming the victim”, but she should have signed a better contract/release. Or found a different avenue to get the word out. she could have very easily done this with CGI.

The other problem I have is the last paragraph – slutshaming the porn industry actors and men that watch it. For the legitimate porn sites – the women choose to be in the videos and men will pretty much always watch porn. From the highest level of society to the lowest, men will look at naked women. And it has nothing to do with “self esteem”.
I’m sorry that this happened to her. but stuff like this is precisely why I don’t put certain pix of myself out in cyberspace. It’s a different world now. As great as the internet can be for good, it also can be manipulated in a way you don’t agree with.

  • ProudMale

    Wow… So I guess I found man-haters anonymous…

  • Jacob

    Nice rack!

  • Dbag

So a lot of you are blaming a women for putting herself exposed on the internet? WTF?

This day and age, IDC how smart you are, how stupid you are, how out of touch you are with technology. If you don’t want yourself to be exploited, THEN DON’T PUT YOURSELF NUDE ON THE INTERNET. It’s that simple.

Even if it’s just harmless breastfeeding, the internet does not have a justice system. If she signed a release that allows her to be put on any media page, that is her own fault. The fact that her name being out there is what bothers her is completely fucking retarded.

  • Steve

Also it is a JOKE that women make breast feeding videos. You don’t need a video to show someone how to breastfeed. There is a reason why you have health insurance that covers personal lessons/ someone who is a PROFESSIONAL to teach you.

9/10 It’s just women wanting attention. How many breastfeeding videos do you need? There’s hundreds on the internet alone. You don’t need to keep making new ones. If being exploited is “so bad” then why are you making a video of your breasts publicly exposed?

Some women are just feminist assholes. This website seems like a feminist website, based off the insult thrown at low self esteemed men.

“… feeding the self esteem losses in men, and profit …”

The “decent” thing to do is to keep your sexist feminist hate of all men to yourself. Porn exploits lust for profit, and you exploit hate for profit. How are you any different?

    • canaduck

You’re a disgusting person, Zarat. Get back to fantasizing about how much you love to hit uppity women on your MRA forums and leave decent people ALONE.

    • Nope

Nice ad hominem attack that offers nothing constructive.

    • http://itsmyworldcanthasnotyours.blogspot.com/ wmdkitty

It’s not an “ad hom” if it’s true.
