Not Cool: 3-Year-Old Tripp Palin Uses Word ‘Faggot,’ Mom Bristol Palin Giggles (Updated)

bristolandtripppalinUPDATE: Life’s a Tripp showrunner Matt Lutz tells Gawker Tripp said “fuck” and not “faggot.” (He was in the room at the time, he says, and he’s also reviewed the footage.) I’d like to say apologies to Bristol, but she still sucks for putting her toddler on national television.

We’ve all been there: hanging with our sweet little angels in public when they suddenly utter the word “Shit!” or “Fuck!” Happens all the time. That’s when most of us enter disciplinarian mode. We don’t freak out over it – doing so would make those “bad words” all the more appealing – but we use it as an opportunity to explain what is and isn’t appropriate to say out loud. Clearly Bristol Palin didn’t get the memo. Her 3-year-old son Tripp had a meltdown on national television – they star in reality show Bristol Palin: Life’s A Tripp – and in the midst of his anger and frustration he called his aunt Willow a “faggot.” Lovely, huh?

Here’s the deal: little Tripp has no idea what the terms even means. All he knows, I surmise, is that it’s not a nice thing to say. Tripp is 3 years old and I don’t for even one iota of a second blame him for using a derogatory terms he knows nothing about. I don’t even blame Bristol, his mom; truth is, he could have picked it up anywhere. What I am judging, however, is Bristol’s response. She gasped and then giggled – that’s it. There was no teaching him right from wrong, no disciplining, nothing along the lines of, “We don’t use the word ‘faggot’ in this household.”

Of course, this is a reality TV show. Who knows what went on once the cameras stopped rolling and the shock wore off (not that there seemed to be any shock)? But from what I saw, Bristol didn’t seem all that fazed by the term. And you know what? That’s just pathetic. I’m not so naive to think that there aren’t thousands of households around the world in which kids are using derogatory terms they either picked up from their parents or in the schoolyard. Sadly, that’s just reality. But when you choose to be on national television, you have a responsibility to teach your children well. And you need to know that you’ll face judgement, like it or not.

Tripp’s family, meanwhile, has a history of anti-gay activity. For example, Willow once attacked a classmate on Facebook, calling him “so gay” and “such a faggot” (her mom, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, promptly came to her defense). In May, Bristol – who’s a 21-year-old single mother – wrote an anti-gay marriage blog entry aimed at Barack Obama in which she pretty much calls him an idiot for being influenced by his daughters.

Look, people are entitled to their own beliefs – that goes without saying. But it is not okay to teach hatred, and it is certainly not okay to let your child get away with uttering a gay or racial slur in any context. Bristol should have stepped up the plate and used the incident to teach her son a lesson. Sorry, but just sitting there and giggling does nothing except teach your child that he’s in charge.

How about if people stop watching these stupid television programs that put money in the pockets of this family?

“Look, people are entitled to their own beliefs – that goes without saying. But it is not okay to teach hatred”

If your beliefs are hatred, how do you separate the two?

  • DeathtothePalins

Well this is just great. Bristol shits out a disgusting retard baby out of her whore cunt and three years later she’s beaming with motherly pride at her “Child’s” first use of the F-word.

If this were any other household in America I’d dismiss it as something Trig heard on the street. But given this family’s history I think it’s obvious who he heard it from.

Please refrain from using the word “retard” when describing a child. Especially when you are condemning them for using another derogatory term.

I have to wonder if any disciplining was edited out because it was “better television” to have her giggling. I admit to being so shocked to hearing my son curse that laughing was pure reflex. Once I could control myself, I of course told him that such language was not okay for a little boy and if he ever said it again he would be in big trouble. Being a mom is a huge learning experience, so I’d like to give her the benefit of the doubt here. While it’s not okay, in comparison to the grand spectrum of things we hear about parents, this is no where near the worst we’ve heard. Even if we just include other teen moms on that list…

      I completely agree.

And Mommyish writes apparently need to get their facts straight before writing blogs. What a waste of a column.

False alarm: according to the show-runner of Bristol Palin’s reality show, “Life’s a Tripp”, Tripp Palin didn’t say “faggot”, he said “fuck”. We all need to apologize to the Palins for getting that one wrong. (link below):

Even if he didn’t say ‘faggot’ and instead said ‘fuck,’, he STILL wasn’t disciplined. That is the main issue.

  • Joanne

Bristol was no fazed. Phased is incorrect.

One of the biggest virtues a person can have is recognizing and apologizing for their mistakes. The author of this articles has not done this properly and refuses to apologize based on the fact that she disagrees with Palin’s choices that have nothing to do with this matter. That’s bullshit.

I’m no fan of Bristol but in this case I don’t see it as such a bad thing. Little kids like to swear because they know they shouldn’t and as an adult it is sometimes difficult not to laugh.

Mommyish should have pulled this article and posted and retraction as soon as they realized they were wrong (actually they should have done proper research). Because right now the homepage states the boy said faggot and reflects negatively on her. That’s defamation.

Even if he didn’t say ‘faggot’ and instead said ‘fuck,’, he STILL wasn’t disciplined. That is the main issue. Also, the article that Bristol herself penned about Obama negatively reflected on herself. No defamation.

White trash is white trash & that’s all that that family is.

  • Mom of a young danseur.

Clearly that word is used by the Palin family if Willow was using it on a public forum. Not to much doubt where Tripp learned such intolerance. My own 9 year old son used the f****t word recently much to my SHOCK. I asked where he had learned it making clear that it is not an acceptable term in any circumstance. He said he learned it at school. It seems he had no idea what it meant and only knew that a lot of the kids at school called him by that term. Seems girly-boy and ballerina-boy was not enough teasing these 3rd grade kids needed to add f****t. My son will not be returning to school this fall because of children who come from families like the Palins.

What do expect from the bastard out of wedlock child of white trash losers like the Palins? They are exactly the kind of genetic garbage that should be sterilized. The Palins should be the poster family for the dumbing down of America.

  • the plain truth

The child looks and acts a little retarded/weird… I predict he will grow up to be a bigger loser than even Sarah and Todd Palin combined… obviously bad genes and something genetically gone wrong perhaps… if the Palins were respectable people they would have aborted this bastard child and sterilized their slut pig daughter. Obvioulsy their Republican beliefs only apply to others and not themselves.
