Even Victoria Beckham Heads Out On School Run, But Forgets Kid At Home

Hey, guess what? Celebrities are total screw-ups just like you and me. Proving there’s no such thing as the perfect mom, Victoria Beckham admits that she headed out one recent morning to take her child to school, only to discover once she pulled in that she forgot her kid at home. Ha ha. (Don’t worry, I can laugh because she’s referring to Brooklyn, who’s 13 years old, so it’s not like he was running into traffic and crying out for his mommy). As Beckham explains in the latest issue of Vanity Fair:

“I got up in the morning, and I knew that I had a whole morning full of conference calls. So I got up early with Harper, sorted Harper out, got all the kids their breakfast, got them ready for school, put Harper in the car seat, and said, ‘Come on, kids, we have to get going or we’re going to be late’—every morning I take Brooklyn, and David takes the little boys to school. We take it in turns because they go to two different schools.

So I jump in my Range Rover, put the car seat in, put my iPod on—obviously very important—and I drive to school. And then I realize, I’d left Brooklyn in the kitchen. I was driving along, talking away, and all the sudden, I looked at the front seat, and I was like, “Shit! Shit! I’ve forgot something!”

I’d gotten down the road, and I literally had to turn around and drive back up the driveway. And David was standing there in the driveway with all three boys, just [shakes her head]. And I felt like such an idiot because I was in such a rush. Harper was in the car, I was in the car, and we were on the way to school. But we did not have the child who needed to go to school.”

Just goes to show that it doesn’t matter how much money you have, how many nannies and cleaners you may employ; at the end of the day, a harried mom is a harried mom. And Beckham’s little tale makes me smile not because celebs are just like us, but because I can totally relate!

Just this morning, in fact, after dropping my own child at school (fortunately I didn’t leave him on the front porch), I ran to the grocery store and literally tripped up the stairs. I bruised my shins but was more concerned that nobody saw me, which for sure they did. Anyway, I bought my groceries and planned to load them into my trunk when I discovered that my keys were missing. Found them 30 minutes later at the customer service desk, but that was only after I retraced my steps 17 times and sweated through my t-shirt. Got back into my car and lost a contact lens somewhere in my eye/brain (hate it when that happens). Then got a call from my child’s school that his lunch box was missing… all this before 10 a.m., when really all I was focused on was getting to my desk so that I could file my stories on time.

I won’t get into the time I accidentally left my newborn in the car as I walked towards the pediatrician’s office because that’s just embarrassing (and neglectful). But my point is that we can all relate to Beckham’s story. It all comes with being a mom and attempting to multitask like mad. Sometimes it all catches with you…
