8 Gross Things Moms Do Besides ‘Baby Bird Feed’ Their Kid Like Alicia Silverstone

alicia silverstone feeding babyAlicia Silverstone ‘baby bird’ feeds her son, meaning she chews up food in her own mouth and then spits it into her baby’s mouth – just like a human Cuisinart! Most people find it gross but hey, there is way worse. I am not even kidding. Regular moms like you and me do some really nasty things with our children whether we’re aware of it or not (things like sniffing our baby’s butt in public to see if he’s had a poo, for instance). With that in mind, here’s our roundup of the eight grossest things mothers do with their babies. Feel free to add your own at the end. C’mon, make Alicia proud!

Ok, as a germaphobe this article just traumatized me, but I can’t even say I don’t do any of that stuff because there is at least 2 on there that I do. For some reason it’s not gross when it’s your own kid…must be a parent’s biological instinct or something.

so true, melanie! when i see OTHER parents doing the same things that i myself am guilty of, i cringe (actually, gag is more like it). yet when i’m the one doing it i don’t even realize how gross it is (’til writing this piece, that is ;)

I’m with Alicia on this one. You do what you have to do. My one year old loves meat but has just 2 teeth so i chew for him and pass it into his mouth. Though I would never consider doing that with someone else’s child. I’m guilty of everything on this list except the potty because we are not there yet. Still if I’ve been wiping off poo from his body since birth without shirking why should Potty training change anything?

so interesting, buki. question for you: how come you choose this method over a food processor? (i can remember grinding chicken in one for my son – as a vegetarian, it was nasty!)

Alicia`s video kinda made me sick. But then again, as this article states, there are a lot of things i did as a mom that would normally gross me out, but i got through it.
Im not sure why she didnt process the food. Maybe she didnt want the extra mess. Whatever the reason, its no big deal. In many parts of the world, including here in Canada in remote First Nations communities, this is how its done.
