I Looked ‘Rancid’ During Pregnancy, Says Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey has always been a diva and somewhat out there. Maybe it’s innate, maybe it’s just shtick. Either way, all good, totally get it. What I don’t quite understand, however, is her latest proclamation that her pregnant body looked “rancid.”

Carey, 42, gave birth two twins Moroccan and Monroe back in April, and has since lost a whopping 70 pounds. Here’s what she told Gayle King at a New York media appearance promoting Jenny Craig diet products, for which Carey is a spokesperson (oh, the irony!):

“I had a towel on in the tub … I’m not lying, I promise you! You think I would let [husband] Nick [Cannon] see me looking rancid like that?”

Really, Mariah? Look, I’m not going to lie and say that I felt like a sex goddess while pregs. Like most women I know, I felt fat and bloated and, well, far from beautiful. So I get that Mariah wasn’t exactly feeling her best. But to describe her pregnant bod as “rancid?” I mean, really! Call me old-fashioned, but she should be thanking her lucky stars that she was able to conceive, carry and give birth to two healthy and adorable babies. This is a blessed woman we’re talking about!

Oh, she also had this to say:

“I had, like, no bones for a while. It’s important for me to feel my bones!”

Um, okay. Forget pregnancy, baby weight, etc. – this is sounding a hell of a lot like body dysmorphia to me.

She makes me sick. Having just had a baby 4 months ago myself I understand where she is coming from, I didn’t look or feel great while pregnant. Quite frankly I was miserable. A year before getting pregnant I had lost a bunch of weight, weighed 120 lbs and was a size 4. I had a difficult time conceiving (at the age of 26) and had lots of hormones pumped into me which caused me to gain a bunch of weight quickly, then to top it all off I had horrible edema all over my body and eventually wound up with an emergency c-section at 34 weeks due to the instant onset of severe preeclampsia. The day before my daughter’s birth I weighed 213 lbs (mostly water weight but still…)and at only 5’4″ I looked awful but certainly not “rancid”.
That woman clearly has no idea how lucky she is! At her age she was able to carry twins full term and they are both healthy, who cares what she looked like?
She must think we’re all morons if she thinks we believe she lost the weight with diet and exercise. She clearly had some work done and honestly, who cares? Just don’t lie about it. If I had the money I’d have it done too!
Oh and to be honest, I don’t give a flying &*$% what her body looks like, it’s her attitude about the whole thing that makes her look rancid!

I’d bet quite a large sum of money that Ms. Carey doesn’t actually know the proper definition of the word “rancid”. I’m guessing she was trying to think up a more brainy-sounding synonym for “awful” and settled upon “rancid”. Nice try, but misusing the word just makes her look ignorant…

yeah I thought it meant “smelly” or something to do with a really awful scent.

Let’s talk about baby names!!! It’s like one of my favorite things ever. I personally love the name Morocco. I was looking on this site called celebbabynames.com to see if it was on there…maybe they’ll add it now

I kind of give her credit for admitting that she was miserable while she was pregnant, though (sick and in pain and unable to stand properly).
