Labor Pains: Five Unrealistic Births In Cinema

Birth in film never fails to be exaggerated. Only a few movies come to mind when I consider an authentic depiction of labor, and while some representations are pretty frightening, others are completely comical. But somewhere between the two extremes is a scene that passes for semi-realistic with some leniency given that it’s just a film.

However, these five films have details or moments that are just so unrealistic, they make the birth seem utterly fake — and not even in a humorous way.

The backup plan is not realistic, but that particular scene is not terribly far off. I have known friends who had home births with tons of people there (whole families) and have music, as well a mirror to watch crowning, they also often being filmed so that they can watch their birth later. It wasn’t the most realistic, but that isn’t to strange.
